octavia vrs bhp increase

Featured Replies

It's cold up here in Scotland Mike :D

LOL.

I'd like to know how much power it would've made with a dyno temp of 16 degree's c corrected.

that is unusual to not have a corrected graph.

Temps are a little lower than i've seen on a dyno too.

Owner of dyno believes that there is too much jiggery pokery in calculating figures and true wheel power is what you get,(rotatest hub mounted equip),so no slip etc.

I used the add 10bhp to wheel power and divide by 0.9 (for a fwd car) method.Others add 15%or you can divide wheel power by 0.85 either way thay all come out around the same.

Oh and as johnny says its cold here in scotland.

calculating loses is far more difficult than that though as every single component of the drivestrain plays a part.

tyre width, pressure, compound, temp and wear. gearbox condition, quality of oil etc and even the height of the car makes a difference as it affects the angle of the CV's and the more bend on the CV the more it loses through heat.

the only really useful figure(upto a point) is a wheel figure as all calculated flywheel figures don't mean a thing, even if you could measure them they wouldn't mean anything as its still the wheel figure that makes you move :)

i have been told that ambient temp, air pressure and humidty figures if adjusted can make a massive difference to power figures, 40bhp+ if fudged and not by too much if i remember rightly.

I agree entirely, thats why he only gives you a graph for wheel power.

Just looked at my previous graph and my wheel power is still up 21.8bhp from last run after remap was done.

i really cannot see how an exhaust system can yield 23bhp. I just cant.

Bengie - give me £35 and your car, and i'll give it 700bhp ;)

None other than spending a few quid on a remap. It neednt be that dear though, I paid less than £200.

were did you get remap from? and what sort of power you gettin?

have you other mods too?

Yeah not bad gains considering they started at a standard output of 157bhp and gained 64bhp. Great things these Jetex exhausts.

The remap alone gave 50.2bhp

The exhaust only gave 14.1 bhp on top of that!

God alone knows how you got 23bhp

Of which 50bhp seems to be down to the Revo map, the most I can seem to find down to the full turbo back exhaust with sports cat is 14.1 bhp.

After all is was on Jabba's rollers.

All i can say is after exhaust was fitted car felt a bit faster but not startling,in the month that passed before going back to the dyno, it seamed to get better and better and is now really rapid, all i can think of is the car adapts over time.Maybe if Jetex's run was done after a while instead of straight after fitting they would have shown more of an increase..Who knowsI am just going with the readings i got.

hi i posted the original thread about bhp increase and after reading all the posts im bit confused. if i just bought decent exhaust and filter what bhp increase could i expect. i no alot of people like re maps and chips but perhaps im bit old fashioned in my thinking but i dont like the idea of messing around with ecus as i no if i have trouble it will be v.expensive like i said originally would be happy with 200bhp. thanks

Mike, Can you put me down for 500bhp increase please ;):D

Kenny,

As I have said before and others will agree, this is not a personal thing against you, "HONEST".

Its just that a few of us have gone down the road to poverty with tuning, and all have failed to see anything like the quoted increase from just the exhaust.

It would be interesting to see it on a better/another set of rollers, but the main thing is that your happy with it, and at the end of the day, thats what matters to you.

Enjoy it.

Mike, Can you put me down for 500bhp increase please ;):D

Don't you want the 700bhp or can you not afford £35?...............LOL

I was just worried about the gearbox. I think 700 bhp may break it, i could swing £35 past swmbo but a new gearbox would not impress .

George,

Sorry mate but the post seemed to hi-jacked to north of the border (LOL), and us sasanachs had better try and answer your original question.

On average a good turbo back exhaust will give 8 to 12 bhp, but its the way it improves the exhaust flow that really helps, also a panel filter will not really give any noticable gains in bhp, its more in the way it lets the engine breath.

Dont be frightened to get a remap from a reputable tuner, just go there, tell them what "YOU" want the car to do and drive like, and get them to map it to your requirements and not to max bhp if your worried about the long term effects.

Sorry, but you'll be very lucky to get 200bhp out of just the two things you have asked about.
