Golf+ Is VW orientated but has "for all vw's and seat's" or something similar on the cover.

It has however featured Skodas, seats and audi's too.

Yeah i know but it doesnt have that many in it...

Just think there should be a VAG specific, and then we can enjoy ALL VAG cars not just VW!

Might email them to feature more of the group cars...

I think a magazine called ALL VAG would sell well from the top shelf though :D

HAHAH

Pehaps...

VAGWorld?

I'm in favour of a specific vag mag, I'm reading performace vw and the golf + at the min, both try and feature other cars in the VAG world but not as many as I like, would be good to see some skoda enthuists write a mag for us.

  • Author

Well maybe i can do something here, know someone who has media experiance at Mag level....!

that would be good mate, much as I love VW's it would be better to see something of a skoda magazine, as most of the vag cars have mags, audi, vw

Well it might be more of a VAG group mag so will have VW, Audi, Seat and Skoda....

So there wouldnt really be the demand for a Skoda only mag.

There are plenty of cars out there to feature for christs sake!

I was just thinking about a mag for all VAG brands the other day as i was browsing the motoring section in the local newsagents last week.

Cheers

Dave.

Has been discussed several times before on here and with the publishers of Volkswagen Driver magazine (who have published the odd Skoda/SEAT article) and the problem is the initial investment into such a venture. It was explained to me that the only way such specialist magazines can survive is through subscription with at least 3,000 subscribers to make it a viable proposition.

There is no more room in the market for another 'VAG' magazine as the VW and Audi fraternity are well catered for so the only way to get anything off the ground would be a joint SEAT/Skoda magazine but I'm not sure you'd get the required subscription base to get it to take off. It needs a brave man with a wad of cash to start it and then cross your fingers and hope!!

Golf+ as has been said covers all vag cars and yes it is mainly vw but i think the reason you don't see many other vag cars is because there a minority in the vw world.

golf+ and pvw attend pretty much all of the vw shows and look for cars they feel are worthy of a feature or find them on sites like edition38 on build threads or maybe even from people that approach them but from my experience of going to vw shows for a number of years i always find that there are probably no more than 5 skoda's in attendance, some shows probably less,so its a very small percentage of there readers that have skoda so i'd imagine thats why they mainly stick with vw,yes you do get the occasional audi and seat but skoda very rarely, you'd need a very highly spec'd skoda to be noticed, which there are some on this site but the magazines will not be aware of them

How about an Online version then?

Some more possible titles from #5 ...

"Inside VAG"

"VAG Explorer"

"VAG User"

"VAG for Men"

In addition to that i might email the editor of Golf + mag and see what they think....

To maybe include more Skodas into there publications...

Depends how the online format is set out etc.

ateotd, I personally arent interested in reading about standard cars, which with the odd exception, most are (even the remapped ones are standard imo). The problem someone like me has is that I am from the Ford world, where it was a case of most cars had something different about them, whether it was engine, body etc.

One thing I've noticed in Skoda world, is that cars get remapped, exhaust, filter, maybe lowered but nothing too flash.

Once you've read about one remapped Fabia, Octavia, then you've read them all!

Then there is the policing of such a venture. How do the features get done? Do they get done by the car owner? If so, its biased, and will read a little like a "heres my car" thread on here.

So it would need to be "staffed" in order to keep it unbiased, which means travel costs etc. Which leads me to the next question - How does it get paid for?

Theres hosting space, design work, maintenance etc.

It would need to be subsricption based, which couldnt be any more than how much a normal magazine costs, nor be the same price, as you're not getting an actual magazine. It would need a fair people to subscribe each month. probably 500 people a month at say £3, means £1,500 a month, minus taxes, minus hosting, minus travel costs etc.

There is also the added attraction of advertising costs for traders. An inviting trade package could be put together, and wouldnt cost the earth as having the magazine online would be cheaper than printing it, therefore costs can be kept down.

I dont think people would need to be paid a wage from it as it could be done in spare time.

I think it can be done, and I for one would be happy to help get it off the ground / be staff, and with the right finances it could be a goer.

It could almost be Skoda's own little Piston Heads.

On the whole, I am GAME! :)

3,000 subscriptions to get it off the ground?

Haven't we got like, 20 thousand members here on Brisky? ;)

I've always said to my dad that there should be a vRS magazine... even an online one.

I've built websites in the past before and I'd be willing to help out... maybe we could throw something together and see what everybody thinks?

We've already got a professional photographer to take snaps, eh Loz? ;)

I'm willing to have a go too!! :D

So true D Smith, if you want more Skodas in Golf + and the like they need to be a bit special. The majority of feature VWs in these mags have had an awful lot of money spent on them which is not just confined to the engine. Retrim interiors, smoothed exteriors and quality resprays. I'm not aware of any Skodas which have had this sort of attention. Sure there are some very nice examples like yours and Baker21's Superb, and perhaps even mine (:P) but to get into these mags they need to be a bit more special to feature alongside these show cars.

If we want to see some Skoda featuring, the best examples from this site need to be entered at the show 'n' shine events at E38 and Inters for example. They do have Skoda categories but the prizes go unclaimed because no one enters them.

Maybe we can get more of a look in for the 2008 season - though mine needs some of the paint work sorted!

There are plenty of cars (Owner permitting a feature !) on here and VAGweb etc...

I can look into the online mag/pistonheads type thing BUT, it will maybe steal Briskys thunder...

Maybe its a proposition for the staff?Keep the feedback up people!

I think a magazine would actually increase Brisky's profile... it'd generate free publicity for the site. :D

I'm going to throw together a front page tonight for a laugh, used to do it for our school newspaper and found it quite fun :)

Do you think that CupraNet and the other owners clubs would be interested in a joint venture?

I think this is a key point - what would you be aiming to provide outside of what Brisky already provides? There's already comprehensive how-to's, here's my car threads, galleries of pictures/videos, reviews, dyno day outputs, meet reviews, classified's etc on the site. Will a mag add anything? :D

Chris

Yes, but can we please, please, pretty please with a cherry on top not just turn it into another PVWesque Eurostyle and OEM+ fest?

  • Author

haha, let me see what you have done once you have done it Rob if you dont mind, great minds think alike etc and all that...

Cheers

Ken, i dont want that either!

It'd put a face to the avatars... we have some absoloute mental motors on here but only minimal information about them; not to mention most of the newbies don't have a clue who the likes of Shifty, and Jason or Makefish are.

Besides a member feature you can put how-to's in a much friendlier format (I found Stu's installation instructions for the MFD2 easier to follow when I'd printed them out! (despite ripping the power lead out of the back :o)

The problem with an idea like this is that too many people shoot it down without even trying it out... maybe we could throw together a one off; even a newsletter and see how much interest we get, and what sort of feedback?

It's just an idea ;)
