Fraying Seats

Featured Replies

Wayne, read my post on page 1.

Sorry mate, It'll be an ongoing problem, due to the shape of the seat. It's a very high wear area.

I had to recolour the same section of a leather seat on a 2-3 month old merc slk last week, 'cus it was starting to wear away...the colour that is, not the leather.

3500 miles on,still lifting my carcass 'over' the bolster as best I can,and still no appreciable wear unless you look close and then you can see a few slightly 'fluffy bits'. Not worrying me particulary.May let them get really bad, have them replaced under warranty by talking nicely to the dealer, then when they become knackered again,I'll get them trimmed in leather,a lot more durable but even they will wear [see above]

Only other answer...do away with the bolsters. Do any of the members with non winged fabia seats have this problem? Maybe i suspect but not at such a rapid wear rate ?

i had the same problem with my furby vrs with the side bolsters going all furry, i used a defuzzer to smooth the area out, i then invested in one taylored seat cover from hatch bag to protect the seat, i did this because the drivers seat was getting dirty too easily so this is a compromise i had to make, the rest of the seats ar ok though, but they are not sat upon as much as the drivers so that probably why. Waynef keep me informed on what the dealers say. I know the side bolsters are a high wear area, but i feel the material used on the vrs is not hard wearing enough, my brother has a golf gti and his side bolsters are showing no signs of wearing after 1300mile and 8 mths where as mine started to wear after 1 months 2000 miles.

I am F-U-R-I-O-U-S

I just looked over at my front passenger seat bolster and it's frigging started to wear' date=' really badly. It's got loads of 5mm-10mm long filaments sticking out in an area about 5cm by 5cm, and it looks truely awful.

Needless to say, I am going straight to the dealer first thing tomorrow to get this sorted ASAP. They get one chance on this I am afraid, and if the other does it too, then that's it totally. It's just NOT good enough fabric.

My Fabia vRS is [b']33 days old[/b] and has covered 2200 miles.

(Also see/update this thread if you have a Fabia vRS http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6419, thank you all)

Mate i can't believe that, exactly the same as mine. Also noticed the passenger seat is going in the same place so I have mentioned this to the dealer as well. Hopefully once this is all done I will get some seat covers to stop this happening again and to keep the seats clean.

Anyone know of seat covers that are ok for seats with side airbags in for the furby ? How much and where ?

Thanks Ivan

Here are two pictures of my fraying seats. The dealer is "looking into" the situation and will call Skoda ASAP to see if they have had any other reports.

This is not good enough after 2500 miles and 34 days! No matter how big the bolsters are or aren't. Points taken though C.J.

I've owned and driven many cars with bolsters as big as this and none of those ever looked like this, things like 2 new BMW's, 2 new MINI Cooper S's, Golf GTi's [front seats in my Beetle], a Polo Coup

my octy was just in for a service and MOT as the warranty runs out end of the month. said for the garage about my fraying seat. they checked it out and called skoda about a warranty claim. the car has dne 20k

skoda's resonse was its definately wear and tear, no warranty claim!

good eh? any ideas? better start complaining i guess

Mine is at 41k now, a little wear but not a great deal. my last car a merc with 100k on the clock and the seats looked like new, as they do in my mondeo with 120k miles on the clock.

Yeah - that's my experience of all my cars too - hmmm...

...I'll have to wait until Wednesday when Skoda UK will come back to me.

I have a vague notion that Skoda UK are going to say to me that they have not heard of other Fabia vRS owners with seriously premature seat cover wear.

I'd really appreciate it if the Fabia vRS owners amongst you could spend a few moments to update the thread below please?

Please feel free to update that thread with any other Fabia vRS problems, as you see fit.

A great many thanks,

Taken my car into Autosales, Bilston who'd kindly arranged a visit from a senior guy at Skoda UK regarding the fuzzy seats, pictured on previous replies.

He reviewed them and has submitted his photo's and analysis of my car to the Factory for them to see what might be happening here.

I'll update http://www.briskoda.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6419 when more information comes from Skoda Auto and /or UK.

my car is booked in for friday morning for the skoda area technical manager to inspect my seats-no doubt at the grand total of 21k miles he will say its wear and tear!! cant wait for friday, should be interesting

The dealer rang me up the other day' date=' we came to an agreement that I'd pay half the labour costs. I was happy enough with that.

Anyone know what the going hourly labour rate in the Skoda garages ?

I was told that to fit the 2 seat cover bases would take 4 hours, would this be the norm ?

Also anyone know what the price is of the padding on the base of the passengers seat under the seat cover, I'm going to get this changed as with passengers getting in and out of the car its getting to the stage that the metal frame is touching off the leather, so better to get it replaced when new covers are going on.

Also as I'm paying towards the labour I'll be getting 2 years warranty on the parts.[/quote']

Got the 2 seats base covers done yesterday along with the padding base changed on the passangers side. Cost me 238 Euro. Hopefully they'll last longer than the last ones.

well skoda in my case have had a turn around, after telling me it was wear and tear i refused to let it settle they inspected the car and im now getting my drivers seat recovered free. cheers skoda, eventually!

Good news that - for everyone really.

For all Fabia vRS owners:

As an aside, my worn Fabia vRS seat covers are being replaced on Tuesday as my dealer are waiting for all the components to be on-site before replacing them... something that BMW/MINI seemed incapable of doing. Bravo Autosales Bilston. It seems that the long wait for the replacement is due to the fact that I have side-airbags in my front seats. The lead-time for replacement of standard front seat covers wouldn't have been true for standard seats I am told as they are in Skoda UK's main stores.

Fingers crossed that Skoda UK decide to stock-up just in case.
