I have been quoted £450 to have roof rails fitted on a new roomster which I am thinking of ordering, the reason being that it is labour intensive and requires a fixing kit which I have to pay for.

As anybody had this done locally and if so how much were you charged.

It seems a lot to me as the factory fitted option is around £180.

If you are only thinking of ordering why not go the factory option route ? I believe the high post purchase price has something to do with removing / refitting headlining as I too was put off by this . ( as mine was ex demo I only had this choice so rebelled at price )

I've got Roomster 1. I get the roof railing fitted at the service...

It was about 220 Euros in Turkey...

My other extras are the wheels, fog lights...

Good point, but they say that the part exchange price on existing car will be lower due to 10 week wait if factory ordered.

You've got to be kidding you'd really get a completely different make. Just cuz the dealer is trying to stand you up. Just let him know you won't pay more than the factory fitted price! Whether or not he needs to fit them locally, to meet your needs. You'd be surprised how quickly this will get him singing a completely new tune. If you still don't like his answer look twards the door, while stating your need to look for a more amenable dealer!

What gets me more than anything is that I have to pay for a fixing kit for them to do the job.

Don't get me wrong, I am quite prepared to pay extra for a dealer fitted item, but this is taking the pi**

It also means anybody else who wants these rails fitting will have to pay over a £100 less than me as they the dealers now have the fixing kit.

Just occurred to me, strictly speaking that fixing kit is surely mine, I have paid for it so I can demand it?

How much value is your part ex really going to lose in 10 weeks? This sounds more like a ploy to get you to buy a stock car rather than have them order one from the factory.

Once you take into account the extra cost of getting the roof rails retro fitted there casn't be much in it. If they want you to buy the car they'll bend to your needs. As has been said, otherwise threaten to go to another dealer who will!

You cant fit it without, hence why its called fitting kit?

And it takes ages to do aswell....

Hmmm, It's a fair point that the car may lose a bit moving past 1 march new reg date, and any extra miles perhaps pushing it over a critical say 60k point.

However you won't be making any repayments in that time on the new car.

Shouldn't really make much difference in the grand scheme of things, and you will be getting a new reg one as well.
