ARB Thickness

Featured Replies

Anyone got any idea on the thickness of the ARB on the RS?

Just found some 25mm ones (front and rear) for mine at a sensible price. Just want to know if they are thicker than the RS ones.

Ta.

What's an ARB ?

Anti Roll Bar ;)

Scratch the question, I've found the answer!

Looks like it is seriously good bye roll! :D

RS one are 23mm (f) and 21.7mm ®

Mine are 21mm and 18.7mm respectively

Means the new 25mm ones will be over twice as stiff at the front and more than 3 times as stiff at the rear :D

YeeeeHaaaa! :D :D :D

And will these tree-trunks fit an RS? ? ;)

Are Taxi drivers allowed up this late ? Not usually seen after about 10 ish :D

Yes they will fit an RS :D

And your source is?

Just for anyone who "might" be interested, you understand ;)

Actually, looking at the suspension layout of the rS, the front may well not fit as it has different linkages :( I'll have to find someone with one so I can try mine on it (well offer it up but not fit it).

Sorry for misleading you.

I didn't want them anyway :P :D

I'll have a look on ETKA and in the H+R book later on. Do the RS linkages tie onto the strut or the lower arm?

RS ones go onto the strut, all the others (FWD) go on to the lower arm

For any 4x4 owners that may be interested in what is available within VAG...

Arb diameters for 4x4 vag cars as follows

S3 two types F19mm r 14mm,f20mm r15mm,

golf v6 4motion f 20mm r 16mm,

R32 f 23mm r 19mm.

Hmmmmmm....... :D

RS have a TT front ARB Jon std octys use a golf one...

So does a vRS's suspension have more in common with a TT than a Golf?

Steve

no just a roll bar on the RS - beaiging in mind a TT is basically a golf too....

Anybody tried a Neuspeed rear arb on an Octavia yet?

Some folks on the golf mk IV forum (uk-mkivs.net) have

reported a good improvement in turn-in and body control,

even on standard suspension. And its easy to DIY fit.

I've got neuspeed arb's on my vrs. 25mm on the front and 28mm on the rear. very neutral handling and in the dry you can take bends at some ridiculous speeds. the additional rear bar makes a huge difference. turn is fantastic and understeer is virtually removed. the big front bar can sometimes be a bit stiff in the wet and cause a bit of slip. it can be a good indicator to slow down though and remind you the road is wet. as front camber is fixed, little negative camber is generated when the suspension is compressed. the big front bar helps stop positive camber and the tyres rolling over onto sidewalls as the car is nose heavy. a std front bar and 28mm rear is also good though, but you can get a bit of oversteer. the front is audi tt and the rear is golf iv. try the back first as it might suit your driving style. the rear bar really transforms the car.

Welcome to Briskoda, l jones. Do you have any other mods you would like to share with us?

Thanks for the welcome Denis. my car is jabba chipped, kw stage 2 suspension, miltek full exhaust and the neuspeed roll bars. i'll be fitting audi tt front hubs and lower contol arms soon though. when lowering the front of cars like the octavia, the front lower control arms go past parallel. this increases the roll centre and makes the car want to roll more. the arms need to be kept as close to parallel to the ground as possible to prevent the front roll centre from being increased. the hubs have a drop knuckle where the ball joint locates which allows the lower control arm to remain parallel when the car is lowered 1 - 1.5 inches. the track rod ends also locate at a lower angle which prevents bump steer, often found on lowered vw's. this is were the car can become skittish over the bumps. the audi tt lower control arms are needed as the ball joint is different. these are also camber adjustable as the ball joint is slotted. these arms can give you extra negaitive camber although this is only a small amount. a bit excessive i know, but you've just got to give these subaru's a hard time. another good mod is 4 pot brembo callipers off a seat cupra r, 80 pounds each from seat and they'll go straight on.

I have to say, I kneel before your knowledge  That has to be the most informative first two posts for any Briskodian

I seem to remember alloy clearance was a big problem? can the calipers fit on standard 17" vRS alloys? Not just the diameter I'm wondering, but also the clearance around the spokes as the 4 pots stick out quite a lot

But a very big welcome to the site :)

Clearance shouldn't be a problem, as are you using the original mounting bracket for the 312mm disc. mike at jabba has these calipers on his seat ibiza and thats on 16 inch rims. if you check out badger 5 website, www.badger5.co.uk, they offer these calipers with a 328mm disc for the octavia, basically the curpra r set up. they will charge you 700 pounds though. wheel size is specified for the ibiza, but not for the octavia.

l jones, welcome to the site :wavey:

I think Mike's Ibiza is running Compotive M0s which do have a greater clearance due to the spoke design, not sure on the actual offset he's running either, which would also have a bearing.

Nice to have someone on here that agrees that you can lower a car too much as well, to the detriment of handling.

Welcome I Jones.
