ARB Thickness

Featured Replies

Another good mod is 4 pot brembo callipers off a seat cupra r, 80 pounds each from seat and they'll go straight on.

This sounds like fun :D

I'm assuming you'd also need the cupra R sized pads but what about the discs? Do they use the same size as the vRS?

l jones,

Where did you purchase the front and rear Neuspeed ARB's for your Octy vRS and how much are we talking ?

I take it they came with all the bushes etc. ?

Did you need to obtain a different set of brackets/bolts to suit the larger ARB's ?

Finally, any experience of squeeking/creaking from front set up before or after the change ?

Cheers

Tony

Tony,

I Purchased The Arb's From Awesome Gti In Warrington. They Come With All Bolts, Brackets And Poly Bushes. No Noise Found From The Set Up As The Bushes Are Greased. Hope This Helps.

l jones,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I was searching the net for these items and was unable to find them listed for the Skoda.

Were they VW Golf Mk 4 items you had fitted ?

Cheers,

Tony

Yes they are the mk iv items that fit.

I've ordered a few things :) through the post from Awesome now and their service is v v good.

I got the 28mm rear bar... still trying to find time to fit it though :(

I have left it next to the door to remind me !

stathap,

Thanks for confirming they were Golf Mk4 items.

I had already found their site and had a browse but having a thumbs up for customer service is always a nice vote of confidence.

Leaving the bar by the door to remind you to fit it is lifted straight out of my 'Good Ideas for busy Men' book (did you buy a copy ?).

However, I think that I can go one better though.....I have a set of overmats for the Octy by the front door as I didn't want to put them in until I had hoovered out the carpets......that was weeks ago and the missus does not stop reminding me !!!

I will see how I go with the replacement of the stock bar at the dealer and reassess if it is worth spending the cash on one of these afterwards.

I might take a look at the rear 28mm one though regardless. This shouldn't be too much of a bitch to fit I guess ?

Cheers

Tony

Thanks for the welcome Denis. my car is jabba chipped, kw stage 2 suspension, miltek full exhaust and the neuspeed roll bars. i'll be fitting audi tt front hubs and lower contol arms soon though. when lowering the front of cars like the octavia, the front lower control arms go past parallel. this increases the roll centre and makes the car want to roll more. the arms need to be kept as close to parallel to the ground as possible to prevent the front roll centre from being increased. the hubs have a drop knuckle where the ball joint locates which allows the lower control arm to remain parallel when the car is lowered 1 - 1.5 inches. the track rod ends also locate at a lower angle which prevents bump steer, often found on lowered vw's. this is were the car can become skittish over the bumps. the audi tt lower control arms are needed as the ball joint is different. these are also camber adjustable as the ball joint is slotted. these arms can give you extra negaitive camber although this is only a small amount. a bit excessive i know, but you've just got to give these subaru's a hard time. another good mod is 4 pot brembo callipers off a seat cupra r, 80 pounds each from seat and they'll go straight on.

Doesn't the audi TT have a wider track than the octy, hence you will have to put the tt drive shafts on as well?

No, you use the ones from the A3 1.8T Quattro, they'll then keep your track the same :)

what is the maximum that you can lower the vRS octy before the roll centre shift becomes an issue and the above needs to be considered. The wishbones look like they are past parallel as standard.

The vrs control arms are past parallel as standard. Thats why with standard suspension body roll is excessive. Its a trade off between handling or looks. In the usa, shine racing are the people to talk to to get the best out of the golf iv chassis. The kit they sell comprises of springs, dampers, a mega stiff rear arb and no front arb. The springs set the vehicle platform perfectly level, the front ride height being raised to ensure the front lower arms are parralel to the road. The kit may not have the looks of a lowered vehicle, but the handling is spot on. The audi tt/golf r32 both use drop knuckles on the front hubs to allow a suspension drop of about 1-1.5 inches, whilst still retaining the correct lower arm position. Using tt hubs, however also involves swapping to tt control arms and ball joints as the ball joints are different. H2sport, a canadian company, have developed a vw hub for the golf iv which allows a 2 inch suspension drop, whist retaining correct arm position. The track rods also locate lower on these hubs to prevent any bump steer, which becomes apparant on lowered vehicles. The h2sport hubs are specifically designed for the golf iv and are a direct replacement. The also various lower arms to give more neg camber, if required. Website www.h2sport.com.

The current front set up on my vrs is kw 2, powerflex bushes, 25mm arb and neg camber plates sourced from allard motorsport. The camber plates bring the lower arms more parralel and give approx -1.5 degrees of neg camber. I also have a 28mm rear arb set on full stiff. In the dry the set up is awesome. You can hammer it through bends at rediculous speeds, very responsive steering and a touch of lift off oversteer. Body roll is minimal. I could get rid of the oversteer by softening the rear arb, but i like it. The front bar can be a bit stiff in the wet but it makes me behave and i cant be bothered swapping back to the 22mm arb.

If anyone wants more info on the camber plates, pm me. The difference on fitting was night and day and ive not noticed any additional tyre wear.

...easy on the capslock...

aren't the uprated fronts from jbs r32?anyone know what size the r32 is?

A new rear ARB sounds just the ticket, as my Octy seems to roll and understeer rather a lot. I do have the Combi version though, and I read on other posts that Skoda recommended 16" wheels as the chassis would not take 17". Would there be any similar issues with a stiffer rear ARB?

Ahhh thats better, just fixed it.

are you possitive about the brembo fitment?from memory the kit actaully has an adapter for the leon R as standard,so you would need this at least, plus the bigger disc, different hoses.

and they won't fit over the standard vrs wheels,as said above spoke clearance is an issue, then there the extra 1cm diameter of disc, the leon cupra r runs 18 inch rims as stock and there ain't a lot of room then ;)

Scratch the question' date=' I've found the answer!

Looks like it is seriously good bye roll! :D

RS one are 23mm (f) and 21.7mm ®

Mine are 21mm and 18.7mm respectively

Means the new 25mm ones will be over twice as stiff at the front and more than 3 times as stiff at the rear :D

YeeeeHaaaa! :D :D :D[/quote']

Just checked the front Anti-roll bar on my 03 Octy vRS, bar diameter is 18mm, I believe that the best upgrade for the front is to put on the R32 bar which is 23 mm ( there are 3 so the part number that you want for the vRS is 1JO 411 305 AF -

Peeps seem to be finding that the rear ARB on its own offers a big improvement. Who knows what alternatives are available for a standard non-VRS? I can measure my current bar thickness if that helps...

I gave my chassis number to my dealer and he confirmed this.

How long does a rear ARB take to fit, i think this could be the first thing i try before going for a suspension kit, (KW 2 or 3)

Give Stathap or l_Jones a PM for fitting time....supposed to be quite straight forward.

is this a better route to go down than the Neuspeed ARB rear?

and get the R32 front?

Speaking to Eibach the other day. They intend to have front and rear ARBs available for the Octavia around December time.

think i'm gonna go for the Neuspeed rear ARB and get the front R32 as its not as stiff as the 25mm neuspeed one.

could be the best compromise.

will check prices first then decide.

Took me a couple of hours (although if technically competent you can reduce that length of time). It really is straight forward, just jack car up and put on axle stands, remove rear wheels (maybe better to loosen before jacking it up), fit front of ARB to chassis (this took a bit of time to clip over the chassis member), undo bolts holding bottom of shock absorbers and attach back of ARB with longer bolts through shocks, job done.

The Neuspeed instructions are clear and easy to follow, and if I can follow them anyone can. :D

Andy

Right well that sounds easy enough, i am fairly competent at this sort of thing so i should be ok then :) It is definately my next buy
