Lake Louise

Featured Replies

a couple of pics taken on Monday (bank holiday here!). The lake is covered in about 4ft thick ice and another 12 inches of snow and is utterly beautiful :).Pics taken on the wifes 2mp digi as the D30 threw a sulk with the cold!

Beautiful scenery but what was the temperture for your camera to play up???

When I was in Norway most of my electrics stopped working when it was below minus 30*c-ish, one day is was hovering about minus 40*c all day, god knows how cold it was at night.

Amazing the car kept going through it all.

Exellent Pictures..........I've been there, but not when it's that cold.

it a stunning place.

This is what we saw when we were there..

We're so jealous..

Indeed, great views.

It's also on a to do list of mine, maybe we should start some real rough guides by locals for other members ? :D

I heven't been there since the 80's -and it was 24 C when I was there last! I fondly remember driving the Icefields Parkway in an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme!

The Rockies are gorgeous and I want to get back there one of these days. I still haven't seen a bear in the wild -although we did see moose and had the chipmunks trying to steal our sandwiches!

Happy memories!

Fantastic pics! I was there a few years back in the summer on a motorcycle trip. Stunning scenery and some excellent roads for some 'brisk' riding

And this is what Mark's second picture would have looked like if he'd taken it about 4 months ago :D:D:D :eek:

That's so cool, flicking between the two pics of the hotel!

Great photos guys!

What a stunning set of pictures:thumbup:

I was there over christmas and new year (Banff) and we visited the Fairmont (@Lake Louise) to do some ice skating:O and a moose trail:D..........

Other pictures are from the Sunshine Village Ski resort down the road from Lake Louise.

Nice!

I'm thinking we should head up to the ski field this winter - have a snowball fight. The dog would love it!

Beautiful pictures guys. I've canoed around Lake Louise, probably right at the point m17rkj is standing lol. Is a beautiful area and I want to go back.

(sorry its a zipped file, its too big otherwise!)

absolutely awesome pics of such a beautiful place.

Mark, Have you been to Johnston's Canyon? it's on the way from Calgary to Lake Lousie, you get to take a nice scenic drive and see loads of wildlife, if I remember rightly there is also a rock formation down that way called Castle Mountain

Somebody say Johnstone Canyon? *cough*

All you have to do is ask your little sister Colin, she could do quite a few world travel guides.

Been up there many times, its one of our favourite walks (see picture above), Castle Mountain sits at the side of the Trans Canada Highway and is a sacred site for the local Stoney Plain first nations. The scenic drive you mention is The Bow Valley Parkway which gives you fantastic views of the Bow River. :)
