Well my MY2006 1.9 has the 6 speed box... :D

You sure ? Not according to etka

Hmm... Well I definitely saw 1.9 4x4's with a 5 speed box when I was looking - it was one of the reasons why we wanted a 2007 4x4 TDi!

Engine noise is not a concern for me, compared to the car I have now, it's gonna be ok!

I'm more concerned about economy, some of my petrolhead pals have suggested I go for the 2.0 but they are probably more concerned with acceleration than me, 95% of the time I'm a plodder :)

My other concern is that I don't want the engine to feel underpowered. My conclusions from the test-drive were that the engine was definately up to the task, gently accelerating up a moderate hill with 3 adults was good enough for me. However it's now a few days later and I'm starting to doubt the results, did I test it enough, etc...

One guy on one of the Skoda forums reckoned his 1.9 was ok towing a caravan, so I guess I'm worrying about nothing. I suppose it does have 25% more torque than the 2.0 petrol version and 2.0 petrol sounds ample on paper.

You have no issues with motorway travel etc?

R.

Hi,

No issues with motorway travel, foot down into 6th gear and you are cruising.

Cruise control comes in very handy so you don't upset the boys in blue!

:)OK, I run an 5 plate 4x4 estate 1.9td with a 6 speed box. She will cruise quite happily and quietly at motorway speeds. I've had cruise ctrl fitted by my dealer and can easily get 60mpg on a 100 mile trip if the traffic is light.

I also tow a caravan and have no issues with the torque.

I considered the 2.0td but decided I couldnt justify the extra outlay.

Test drive both my friend and only commit when you are 100% sure.

I thought the 4x4 was 6 sp to allow a crawler style gear for steeper hills, pulling off with caravan etc?

Have to say I've quickly got used to the 5sp in the current car having had 6sp in the superb. Always thought it was weird to drop down to 5th.

From what you say it seems you'll be happy enough with the 1.9 rather than the 2.0, which undoubtedly offers better performance - Does the 2.0 have the dpf issues, pretty sure the 1.9 doesn't?

Does the 2.0 have the dpf issues, pretty sure the 1.9 doesn't?

Our 2.0TDi has a DPF but no issues as yet - as far as I know they only seem to be afflicting the 170bhp version not the140 bhp version and seem to result from driving style or lots of short low speed trips?

we run a 4x4 1.9tdi demo car and i find it too be more than adequte for the engine size.

my own choice if a could go for the bigger engine would be the 2.0tdi as the extra power suits me better :)

the dpfs only really goes wrong if you dont go for long 40mph plus speed drives to give it chance to clear itself out. when the DPFS light comes on its just a good excuse to go for a nice long rag!! :D
