He just had to try it...

Featured Replies

Coming home on the duel carriageway last night had Mundano hovering behind, i wasnt going very quickly just passing traffic, so he could have just passed but faffed about for ages

Eventually he passed and it was an old shape st24 - we got balked by a lorry and as it pulled in he dropped a cog and floored it

i did the same (5th gear- in a VRS SE) and he went

No where........:thumbdwn:

couldnt lose me at all and i reeled him in with no trouble , judging by the crap from the exhaust he was trying bloody hard

We got to licence losing territory and I let him go passed him later as he pulled in

ok childish I know but interesting- all those cylinders and valves and all that fuel and no advantage:cool:

Tis because theyre heavy and old

Not again :(

He was probably just cruising :)

oh yeh lets do this, fabia vrs would kick modeo st24 butt all day long, fabia's are the performance kings, and in 2.0l guise will see off V8 mustangs, all hail the mighty fabia, and to the doubters, you don't know the power of the derv side, skoda lied about power and wieght so don't quote power to wieght ratio's cos they are ******:D

To be fair, the stats on the Mondeo ST24 aren't all that, 167 bhp and 8.0 seconds 0 - 60, factor in the engine may well be past it's best depending on the type of crap coming out of the exhaust and I'd say maybe, especially if the OP has any engine performance mods on it.

not really, about the same weight as the fabia despite its size but yes not the newest car around as they stopped making at around 99 i think.

they have power power but less torque than the fabia so if he left it in top then yes you would be quicker i'd say but even if he changed into the lowest gear he could he probably wouldn't pull away that fast but i personally think he would, just. surprisingly quick old things them :)

Saw the car dip and the exhuast puff as he changed down, he definately dropped a cog, no doubt about it we were doing about 70 so it was either 3rd or 4th at a guess

tbh I thought he would pull away as a result but he didnt

He was the one trying it on

im not making out the VRs is the fastest thing about Im a bit old for a boy racer, but it does surprise me what it can keep up with

Just in after a 170 mile round trip to see my grandson on his birthday.

On the way home I encountered a flock of Saxos, Clios and Civics travelling in convoy - Half-rods goes mobile. On straight bits of road I began (legally and safely) passing them 1by1. The reaction (and noise) was amazing as they began trying to re-overtake me, it seemed two at a time.

The road got into some nice twisty bits and I eventually caught the "leader of the pack", a badgeless Mk IV Golf, which I also (legally and safely) passed in 5th, giving him a good blast of soot. He tried the same as his pals but by the time I got to a T-junction with the main road the entire flock had reformed their convoy about 300 mts behind me.

They all passed me on the main road, 100 kph speed limit which I stuck to, with lights flashing and horns blaring. I met them again at a filling station close to home and attracted lots of attention when they saw me filling the car with diesel. They just didn't seem to understand what had happened.

Torque beats noise, a well sorted little diesel beats a truck-load of Half-rods bits, and driving ability and experience beat adrenaline and pimples.

So like Lewiscypher I too am at times surprised, but not as surprised (or disappointed) as other road users!

LOL, some of these posts make me chuckle... At least people are having fun in their Fabias

I had a paxo cube try it on with me a wee while ago just a month or so after getting the car I accelrated a wee bit and the next thing he is blasting away so I let him overtake only for 1/2 mile up the road he got stopped to the bike cops.

LMFAO....here we go again. :D

It was just the standard 160-odd bhp V6 in them things with a bit more body kit and nice seats. According to some reviews I read, not that much quicker than a standard 2.0 but obviously that is debatable.

For a 2.5 v6 that's a pretty average amount of power considering BMW 2.5 straight 6's were making 192bhp from the early 90's.

The ST200 on the other hand....the coppers drove those (purple unmarked one near where the old A1 joined the M62).

well i overtook a plane!...................twice, in reverse......going sideways lol

Must admit, having owned a Ibiza FR petrol, i would have never bought a vRS......glad i did tho, its much more fun covering people in smog lol

well I'm happy with mine compared to owning a 1.6 focus I just love to surprise people when they try to try it on

the only ones making that sort of power though was the 3 series coupe which was meant to be sporty and the 525(but that needed the poke due to greater weight) a regular 325 made about the same power as the mondeo:)

but tbh the 2.5V6 in the st24 was only an average engine in a kitted up car, they didn't get more technical until the st200 and st220 mondeo's, shame they didn't stick the cosworth 2.9 in the mondeo to start with :D

yawn

Now where did I put my popcorn?

With things like this, all I'll say is there's two sides to every story. I wonder if the same guy is over on a Ford forum pondering what the heck a guy in a Skoda was doing? :)

It's not a bad output for a 2.5 V6 from the late 90s at all. I quite like the 24s TBH.

The 2.8 straight-6 from Munich was putting that power out yes, from around '96. The 2.5 was around the 170 mark for a lot of it's life, until the E90 5-Series facelift came out really, in 2001. Then the 2.5 output was raised, really in response to the continued development and refinement of their 3.0 petrol unit.

surely the key message of this threat is that if you want tyo make a tuuat of yourself do the following

a: buy a fabia

b: invent ludicrous stories

c: have people argue over it.

no the 12v M20 was 170 hp till the end of the E30 and late into the E34 circa 91. Then the M50 24v Vanos 1 engines came in with 189 hp in the late E34 and new E36 3 series.

The 328 came in with the M52 and 193bhp late into the E36 model run.

To confuse things the M54 appeared in the E46 as a 2.5 again with 192hp.

Later into the E90 it went to 212hp still as a 2.5 N52 and in 2007 the 325i became 218hp but shifted to the 3.0 block......

I stand corrected.

What was the output from an E90 523i from 98/99 then? I'm not sure which engine code was used here.

e90 is present shape

e36 had a 323i it was a detuned 2.5 with 170hp but much more torque than the 320i
