I seem to have the same problem... No brake lights and coil light flashing.

Got a part from dealers, its black too but its bigger than the previous switch. swapped it and still not working. the part number of the new switch i got is 6Q0945511 :(

Make sure the switch is twisted as far clockwise as possible.

Was the new switch green? should be, part number of latest switch is 1c0 945 511 A RDW

Its funny you should say that, cos i got a spare agers ago in case the switch went and has part number 6Q0 945 511 which didnt work too....... I wonder if the dealers are giving out the wrong parts ????

Didnt work in mine :( Had to use the 1C0 945 511 in mine. But surely these are the same parts just for different cars ???? 1c0 is that not a roomster part no?

This is the one i have that didnt work.

Yep, thats the same as mine...

ETKA must be wrong then because it deffo doesnt work

I know it does work as I gave one to someone last week that I had in the garage. You do have to be careful fitting them.

There is every chance that the other VW parts are compatible. 5J is new Fabia/Roomster chassis not 1C.

Col does VAG-COM lead you to the switch?

I dont have VAG-COM :(

perhaps there is a difference in the switch for various year models?

i took the old switch to bits last night and that is definately broken rather than having corroded parts.

what else could the problem be?

Honestly its the wrong one you have.

I have one here, i fitted it perfectly. And it still didnt work.

I then went to dealer and got this green one i have now and it worked first time i put it in.

Its the switch its definatly not compatible.

so whats the 1J0 945 511F then

Ar right, 1JO is a seat part number I think.

What has the dealer said?

dealer gave me green one and that doesnt work either. When i fit them do i have to press the pedal before i lock it into place?

Edit: sorted it, took 2 green ones to get it to work?

apparently the black one is whats listed for my car, but the green one is the one thats listed to supercede the part that was already fitted... bizzare eh

  • 7 months later...

sorry to drag this up, my brake switch failed tonight, any idea how much the new switch is and any info on where/how it fits?

edit :

i found a pic of where it fits but can't work it out, is it under the dash at the top of the actual pedal?

thanks.

Yes its under the dash at the top of the pedal can't remember how much mine was but i think it was about £11 ish ( i think )

fitted the switch that skoda sold me and it didnt work, must be the same wrong one that other people got.

took the part number for the green one in and they have ordered it but it won't be in till wednesday which is slightly annoying.

driving a smart roadster until then.

If your switch were to have failed when you were out and about and you wanted to get home without getting rear-ended, then you could have tried this Busted Brake Switch Workaround:

Take out both brake light bulbs and gawp in wonder as the high-level brake light bizarrely begins to work when the pedal is depressed, now offering fellow motorists some indication that you are slowing.

Have been meaning to write up this wee emergency workaround for a while.

Shout if it no work for you as then I'll no have to bother.

With the brake switches they have to click into the final position before the switch will activate.
