Apart from extra memory, what else do you need to buy to use this kit in a car?

Nothing , its all there.

Thanks, Dr z. Offer ends 1/6/04 and temporarily out of stock... :(

Does it have to be hard-wired in the car or is the kit portable, ie can it be transferred easily between cars?

Denis

if its anything like the bluetooth one, yes you can transfer between cars. The carkit is easily moved and is powered by the accessory socket. The wired gps receiver plugs into this, and this is simply help onto the dash. I have used my wireless example in both my cars no problem.

If you are going to travel in europe and buy this kit, get the biggest memory card you can afford. I am using a 512MB C/F card in my 2210 at the mo, its currently full and I am looking at 1GB cards.

Denis - Just my 2 penith, I've got an Ipaq 2210, TomTom sat nav & TomTom car kit. I bought the wired GPS receiver version on the basis that the Bluetooth ones only have ~6hrs charge in them, you then have to plug in the charge wire (hardly wireless I thought). It all fits together as follows:

you double sided sticky tape a metal base plate to your dash, the gps receiver is then magnetically held to it. The GPS receiver cable also has a windscreen sucker though which can be used as an alternative means of securing the receiver, e.g. in cars other than your own. The GPS cable then plugs into the TomTom car kit. The car kit is held in place via a large windscreen sucker and power is supplied to it via a cigarette lighter cable. The cable supplied is however too short to reach to the lighter socket down by the handbrake. However, the voltage regulation for the IPAQ is all done in the car kit therefore any other means of supplying the required 12V 3A is OK. I made up a longer cigarette power lead and tucked all the wires behind the trim (cigarette lighter plug, 3A cable, 2.5mm plug - ~

And with the newly released traffic addon you can now see where traffic congestion is on route, approx delay time and have the software route around this if you wish. Currently available as a 3 month free trial, this needs a bluetooth pda and mobile phone that also needs to have a gprs internet connection.

I found the benefit of the bluetooth gps over the wired one, was the ability to use this on my laptop pc with bluetooth dongle. Something you cant do with the wired kit that only works with the tomtom car kit. 6 hrs is plenty of time to get to most destinations, then just plug it in the mains for about an hour and your ready to go again. There is also a lot less wire cluttering up the car interior.

Web site may be out of stock but the offer is on in the stores as well , Just reserved the last one at our local store, YEE HAA, fantastic offer thinking I was going to spend over

If anyone still wants one look here: PDA GPS

PC World price is inclusive of VAT, where Total PDA Isn't, but it's still a good deal.

Didn't spot that!!! Thanks for saving the reddies!!!

I don't think it includes a memory card, add approx

Been to all my local stores and all have sold out, they even sold the one I had reserved this morning, rang PC World and they think they may get some in soon but they don't know if it will be before the offer ends!! Barstewards they dangled a carrot that turned out to be a maggot!! ( and that doesn't refer to DR Zoidberg, your a true gent Sir for bringing this deal to our attention)

Just got mine.

****ing great deal.

Where from?

PC World in Birkenhead.

PDA was display model.

Checked Guildford and surrounding stores (Reading, Croydon etc) and had a check around Nottingham/Mansfield as well!!! Nothing, to coin a phrase from the Dyson ad, not a sausage!!!

If anyone find a batch of them somewhere, will they post up??

/Gav

No joy with Bedford, Peterborough, Cambridge or PC World's web site - and none expected in at the latter! Ring PC World's call centre on 0870 2420444 to check availability locally.

Now if I was that way inclined I could advertise it in the for sale section sell it to an Irishman and then sell it to someone who offered me more.

Sound familiar.

Just been trying to get another one for a guy in work and can't find any more in Merseyside.

I've just rang PC World (I'm miffed at having paid so much more for mine) and the bloke said there are none left anywhere in the country, he's been trying to source them all day. The offer apparently started 2 days ago and they sold out on the first day. They may get some more, maybe not.

Local PCWorld didn't even *know* about this offer. They still had a big poster up saying you could buy the 2210 and tomtom for

I rang up my local PC World to moan about them selling the one that they had reserved for me this morning, and they told me that my local Dixons had 5 kits in stock, so I finished work early and raced with great excitement to the store, only to be told that they haven't had any Ipaq 2210 in for ages and that they have never sold the TOMTOM navigation system. So what can I say to PC World, something along the line of "You employ a bunch of TW#TS"

The guy in the Colchester PCW said something about someone ordering one this morning, but they'd never actually get it! Hope that wasn't you...!
