Like you say not much of a visual impact with the Octy but what are they thinking with the new Superb 'Greenline', looks like a canabis leaf graphic on it! yeugh :thumbdwn:

Chestnut leaf :(... Cannabis would be at least more fun.

Forgive me all, I'm in no way knowledgeable about car engines! I was in my local Skoda dealer yesterday buying some oil when I brought up the potential launch of the new common rail engines with the engineer and salesman. They looked a bit confused and seemed not to know what I was talking about, they also said "you've already got a common rail engine in your car". I wouldn't know either way to be honest!

So my 2007MY vRS TDi (170) has a common rail engine?

Cheers,

Dave.

No you don't - it's pump diesel - definitely not CR

Seems like some of the Skoda dealers are much less informed than they need to be then! That's a pretty fundamental point to be clueless about though isn't it? I'm hoping they know which cars are diesel and which are petrol

My experience of dealers is that they are usually clueless - not all; but most.

Is it not 'Pumpe Duse' pump injectors?

that doesnt fill me with confidence! going into the same dealer (if its the one im thinking about) for a new parking sensor and wiring check on friday and they dont even know the existing eninges are PD!

Mmm. Lots of black plastic. Very inspirational...

I can't understand why they are bringing out a New CR engine with the same 170 BHP. are Skoda being told by VW that they have to wait till they lauch it first in the new Golf. you'd think 200 bhp is now the benchmark for the up coming hot tatch diesels. hopefully anyway.

Yeah but quite often refered to as Pump or Pumper diesels.

Anyone else think the new Superb looks.... French?

No, but I think it looks a bit 5 series from the front. Off topic anyway

That was my first thought, particularly the lights.

Any idea what's actually different on the CR diesel?

Obviously the head and the injection systems have changed , but is the engine block itself basically the same?

What about the Turbo?

Looking to buy a new vRS in the next few weeks. My understanding is that it will have the new common rail engine, is this correct?

Not yet IIRC; need to wait probably for the 'facelift' model due later in 2008 or early 2009.

Why not the C5 looks German!

Ok, own up, who swapped the blueprints around?

The dealer is right but so is everyone else. There is a danger in using shorthand expressions which can be fairly meaningless. The following link gives a very full explanation.

Audi A3 2.0 TDI 170 : GOT THE URGE? - Yahoo! Cars

That article is just plain wrong. Only the 2.7 TDI upwards were CR before the 2.0 CR units came along.

The current vRS is a PD unit ... not CR.

Spot the difference!

Obviously the top pic is the new CRD - How does she drive compared to the tdi ?? Any difference in responsiveness/additional power? Would love some feedback if poss.

Was at my dealer today, but no-one available for the question 'do you have a CRD Vrs in yet for me to have a demo!! Won't be long i hope :)

From what people are saying and how long it normally take for things to go from being announced to being available, then you will need to be waiting 9-18 months til the CR is available. I would say it is very unlikely to just be a phased in replacement to the existing car, most likely, will be available with a facelifted model which will mean new spec and a new price.

Lets hope they are not like Ford on this. I asked about the new 2.2TDCi in a Mundano and was told that although it was now available to order, that due to the fact they didn't have enough Alloy to meet demands for the 2.0TDCi engine, then they couldn't even put a time scale on a factory order. To quote the saleman 'if you gave me an order for one today, I wouldn't know what to do with it':thumbdwn:
