First Pics of new vRS Common Rail Diesel Engine...

Featured Replies

From what people are saying and how long it normally take for things to go from being announced to being available, then you will need to be waiting 9-18 months til the CR is available. I would say it is very unlikely to just be a phased in replacement to the existing car, most likely, will be available with a facelifted model which will mean new spec and a new price.

I wouildn't be so sure!;)

I'm looking to get a new Octy vRS Diesel too, but don't know if it is worth waiting. Not sure if anyone actually knows the answer, but I would value your advice.

Anyone hear what differences the new facelift will mean - a minor change or new look?

Thanks in advance

Information is very sketchy on the facelift but going on past Skoda efforts it will be a minor cosmetic tweak here and there. New badging and slightly different rear lights maybe. As for the front? possibly slightly different lights and a modified grille.

More information will trickle out as we get nearer the time but as for now it's just speculation and photoshop!

As for the CR engine I would hang on for it myself, as it's an all new power plant it will be an improvement and should quash the DPF issues that appear now and then.

100k on my X Plate TDi Elegance though and there are such good offers on the vRS at the moment and new prices at less than £16500 for a metallic!!

Common rail sounds good and worth waiting for though...

Anyone else think the new Superb looks.... French?

I was gonna say looks like a Phaeton

Thanks, much appreciated.

I read a review in Auto Express on the new A4 TDI 140CR, and they concluded that that the new engine was much more refined and quiet, with a much more linear power delivery. This all sounds great, but the surge your get with the current TDI is great and one of the reasons I like the PD so much. So you may find that the current PD RS will be more fun to drive, and the raucous engine noise adding character.

Best advice it to test drive a CR TDI, they are fitted to the Passat and new A3/A4. Then try a current TDI PD RS and see which you prefer.

Looks good! I am a big fan of Pumpe Duse engines because I haven't driven another modern diesel engine that matches them for low down grunt. I hve not had an opportunity to sample a VW Common rail yet. Has anyone and what's it's driving characteristics like in comparison with the PD?

I was looking at some of the pictures and in the darker colours it looks great, but from some angles it reminds me of some of the Korean brands, and there is a hint of Renault in there to.

Yet in this week's AE they slate the new CR engine as fitted to a VW Tiguan(Stupid name!) as not being as refined as they expected and clattered under load......:confused:

i was just ordering a vrs, when i saw they have now got 2 versions of the crtdi vrs listed on the system. 2 prices, but both say 170bhp. so the plot thickens!!

vRS TDi with DSG would be what my money is on, in this thickening plot :)

Any news on a common rail replacement for the 1.9 PD TDI?

I think I heard a while ago there would eventually be a new 1.6 CRDI in VW group

I looked on the Skoda UK (Octavia) website and it was the only Diesel listed for new factory orders now.

Please can you tell me where about on the Skoda site did you see the info? My company have offered me an Octavia 1.9DTi Estate, in fact my fleet manger is just about to order about 16 Octavias.

Cheers

Škoda

Select... Our cars - Octavia - Facts and figures - Performance, Safety and Economy - Select the engine from the drop down list (2.0 CR 170 bhp [DSG])

Good luck!

On the skoda site the vRS is listed with the CR engine now, as well as a vRS CR with DSG, but it looks like they are back to "poverty" spec with the Jumbo box etc all back as an extra.

vRS CR is coming in well over £20K with a reasonable spec .... yikes!!

Looking on the skoda site, it's only the vRS that has the CR engine at the moment mate.

The 1.9's and the PD140's are still listed in the car configurator

I've driven the Tiguan CDTDI auto and the main reason I ordered one was becasue of the quietness and refinement of this engine, clatter under load, they must be confused with another car or once again they wrote a report on a petrol Tiguan but based their diesel statistics on a Golf with the old PD140 tdi as many other magazines have.

Almost tempted to cancel the Tiguan and buy a Oct Estate CRTDI with DSG :)

The CR vRS with DSG has very low emmisions apparently so I'm sure it will be a hit in the fleet market. I think the CR with manual box has reduced in price a little over the PD
