How many of you have replaced their Octy with..............Another more or less identical Octy?

I Have just ordered a new octy estate (elegance) 1.9 Tdi to replace an (er......) 06 Octy estate (elegance) 1.9Tdi.

I really have a huge respect for this car, and over the years, having owned over 25 vehicles, I have never even thought about replacing a car with the same make and model but Skoda and the Octavia have proved me wrong.

The only differences are that I have decided to go for the Xenon (HId) lights, the steering wheel controls with maxidot and the privacy glass, and a few other small options. Oh and I have changed the colour from Anthracite to Satin Grey Metallic.

Whilst the 1.9 seems just a little agricultural these days, I really don't need the extra oomph of the 2.0. I consistently get over 55 to the gallon, and even after looking at a wealth of 'newer' designs, like the new Mondeo, for instance, I am still convinced that the Octavia is one of the best all-round cars which you can buy.

The only downside? I'll have to wait 6 weeks for a factory order, as there are no cars with the options I want in the Skoda 'pool' at the moment.

......Never mind!

Kinda, replaced MK Ia Octy 1.9 TDi Blueline with a MK II Octy 2.0 TFSI vRS. Would be tempted by another MK I Octy diesel if I needed a cheap car, and I drive my dads MK I Octy Diesel a bit too.

That's interesting - I'm the opposite and always seem to end up going for a different model/brand as variety is the spice of life.

I usually try and go for something different but to be honest if I was changing now it would probably be another VRs, maybe an estate, maybe a diesel but definitely not black!

I went from a Mk1 to a Mk1 , but that was a big change , and I have no intention of buying another Octavia when I get rid of this one.

There are plenty of good cars out there and I'd like to try something else

I had 3 Peugeot 306 DTurbo's in a row, always a different colour and the last one was the HDi, but like to stick with a winning formulae! Certainly the case with caravans, 5 out of the 6 caravans we have owned since we married in 93 have been from the same maker, the first 4 from the same range. So maybe i'm just a creature of habit. Whatever i'm a Skoda fan now and for the forseeable future.

I went from a black magic Octy1 vRS to a black magic Octy2 vRS.

I went from a Black Magic mk1 vRS combi to a Graphite Grey mk2 2.0 TDI Elegance, then brought a KIA Sorento . Now looking at a Race Blue vRS TDI or a Scout, guess I like Octavia's

As you'll see, went from a 1.6 ambiente mkI to a 2.5 superb (comfy for the miles) to a mkII estate (for dog and bikes on roof). Did have a look at other brands however skoda dealer had best value for money. (ie least cost to change) each time.

I have been so pleases with the car and its low running costs that I ordered A 2.0 tdi L&K to replace it. even got the same colour (island green). Ticked all the boxes except DSG and sunroof. Includes Columbus, Silver roof rails, privacy glass,TPM and factory towbar. Worked out better value than a specced up Elegance,

Car expected at dealers next week.

which makes it 7 octavias in 7 years!!! first 3 were ambientes, and last 4 elegances. Have now been through the colour chart.......... highland green, dark blue, stone grey, black, flamenco red, cappuchino and finally the silver. Hopefully there will be some new colours next for the 09 plate!

I think I have turned into a very boring old git.......... but i just love these cars.

I'm going from a Furby VRS to a 06 Octy 1.9TDI Ambiente on Friday. I love the Furby but I need more space and have gotten totaly sick of cleaning the stupidly light interior after my delightful children have used it as a climbing frame. Luckily the Octy has a nice black interior

This is the 1st time I've stuck with a manufacturer through a change. I'm more than happy with Skodas right now.

Went from Octy vrs mk1 to a Superb 1.9tdi Elegance then Mitsi EVO6 to BMW 528 ,back to Octy VRS mk2, Honda Accord Tourer now settled on Mk1 Octy VRS with 337bhp

Just replaced my 05 1.9tdi classic hatchback, with an 07 1.9tdi ambiente estate. Fantastic car, had no hesitation going for another. The classic did 70,000 miles in 2 years, no probs at all.

It is amazing how many of you have got the same car twice. I don't feel quite so strange now, but I am convinced that the Octy II is an all-round decent car, and really good value too!

Bought a 4*4 combi in 2001 and have just bought a Scout TDi .

I just loved everything about the Mk1 from the consternation of friends at the mere sight of it to the shear ability of the car usually with a 16 ft kayak atop . It reminded me of a Renault 16 I owned in the 70's .

Like many , I had always thought that it was not a good idea to replace with the same , consequently I just did not look at the Mk2 . But , after looking at most of the others , I suddenly made an instant decision one day in my local garage with my new car sitting in the showroom with a hefty discount tag - I hate negotiating for cars - it brings out a side of you which is unrecognisable in a mirror .

The decision was also made easier by the fact that my son who also has a mk1 4*4 , wants a 2nd car .

So was it worth it . The build quality on the Mk1 was just amazing and after seven years there is still not a squeak after 100K . Perhaps I was just lucky , but the car had been meticulously by Skoda garages .

But on driving the Scout away I was immediately reassured by its solidity , ease of driving and the lighter steering at low speeds . The tyres , oh dear , Dunlop Sport 01s have taken time to " grip " , so I lowered the pressures at the rear so they did not tramp before the haldex clutch activated and drove the wheels around . The diesel is noisy to begin with but I am getting used to it , and at speed it is perfectly acceptable . The economy is a big improvement especially in urban areas and , once run in , the mid range acceleration is going to make driving diesel a pleasure .

We like this type of car because of its load carrying ability , the fact that we visit Inverness a lot in winter and live in Snowdonia , and it is a pretty comfortable way to travel , plus the fact that it will cope with mountain tracks and parking off road .

As far as the new gadgets , I do like the hill start , auto-dipping mirror , dual climatic controls ( this was always a bone of contention before ! ) , the storage space , and 6th gear with cruise control on motorways .

I just get the feeling that the lumbar support is poor , it has a thinner coat of paint and will not wear as well , and the gearbox as mentioned elsewhere is not as smooth , but it is early days .

But on balance , I am quietly confident that we have made the right decision .

I did consider BMW 320d, went for a test drive and hated it:thumbdwn:. Looked at the new Mondeo and really liked it, but didn’t even get to test drive it as Polar Ford reminded me why I would never own one! Shame really because it looked the part.

I really was trying to move away from the Octavia, but after having such a good experience with the previous 2, and test driving the DSG I was hooked again. :thumbup:The last service I had was very well executed, and presumably because of badge snobbery the dealers and always willing to offer good deal, so it really was an easy decision.

I too went to Ford main dealers in B'ham and requested just to look at a Mondeo estate , and was curtly told that if I wanted to look at one then I had to book an appointment in the week when the sales manager's wife was not using it -
