I went to the Geneva Motor Show on Sunday mainly to see the new Superb. Love the front end but not sure about the rear. I think it is the way the roof blends into the rear window just looks a bit odd to me. It may grow on me. Inside the interior more than spacious and quite plush. The Climatronic control unit looks like an early 60s radio with all the chrome effect and in my eyes is at odds styling wise with the very modern looking SatNav/Audio unit which incidentally has a touch screen. There are ventilation outlets on the B pillars and for the comfort of the rear passengers and they now have there own climate control options. The Skoda Umbrella still has a place in the door. Externally the Boot/Hatchback option is a neat concept and works well. Car looks nice on the really nice 18" alloys. Note the disc brakes on the new car in the photos. Will I have one that is the question that I am still pondering...Hmmmmmmmmm??? Some Photos attached I hope you like them

You just about said all I said in another thread about the rear, and the heater controls are at odds with the rest of the nice looking dash, they look very similar to the ones found in the Sonata, and one reason I didn't buy a Sonata tbh.

I understand that the 3.6V6 FSI is the range topping petrol, but I downloaded the brochure and it had a 1.8TSI as the top petrol engine, so is it a concept or something that's not coming to this country, or coming later?

Personally, I think it looks stunning, I can understand why some people get vibes of megané saloon or safranne about it, but I think they could have done alot worse!

I would adore one for my next car when my lease is up in 3 years, can you lease a used car? Im guessing it's going hold it's value like most saloons without a premium badge

Forgot to mention that the photos were of the 3.6FSI version which according to the Skoda represensitives on the stand is the flagship of the engine range. It also had FWD.

knowing skoda and their pricing ....i'm sure they will allow for the increases in taxes shelled out by mr darling.....give it a yr and they will drop more than the increase in tax......cept car tax grrrrrrrrr

The climate unit is a standard VAG one, and will most likely be introduced into other cars in the VAG lineup.

I quiet like the look of the new superb, but following the budget changes yesterday owning one aint going to be cheap.

I have been to the Geneva show twice this year, and after going around all the most beautiful cars, sitting in the Bentley Continental and other really great cars, I returned to the Superb, and was far from disappointed by the comparison. Readers of this may consider I am exaggerating, but I wonder how many of you have read the two volumes on the history of this remarkable company over the last 100 years and more?A comparison of this car in any way to a Safrane (or any other car other than the big luxury cars such as Bentleys or Rolls Royces) is maddening to me, because I love cars and i simply cannot see any such resemblance at all. Looking with honest eyes and a love of Skoda cars, one can clearly see wonderful design features that mark this car out as a Skoda in a traditional sense, and I find it stunningly beautiful. Pictures really do not do it justice - you have to see it in the metal. I am astonished how much I like it. It is smart, classically dignified, in the manner of the great cars, and yet thoroughly modern. It is really a limousine for the masses, and the beautiful wine red metallic six cylinder 260 bhp 4x4 car on show, with a lovely ivory leather interior, DSG automatic gears and full satnav etc etc. will sell, they say, for about 55,000 Swiss Francs when it goes on sale (after the cheaper models) in November, which is equivalent to less than half that figure in pounds - remarkable value. My wife and I will retire in about 6 years, and we will either buy a secondhand VW Phaeton - a beautiful incredibly underrated car with real luxury - or a Superb, probably the estate, new, at the top of the range. That's how highly I rate this car. Of course, were we wealthy I would really prefer a Bentley Continental to anything else, but the fact remains that all these cars are produced under the wing of VAG and each of them represents real quality and style. I sincerely hope that Skoda will produce an even more luxurious interior in an L&K trim, as the body contours and the quality of construction truly merit it. It is sumptuously lovely, much more thrilling to the eye than a Mercedes or BMW, makes the Passat look small and rather hunchbacked, and an Audi A4 or A6 look somehow bald and aggressive in comparison. I had to make a big effort to walk away from the stand. I liked all the versions on show, as the interior works well at all trim levels, but mainly because of that gorgeous body! I hope there will be cool accessories available this time, like, for instance, a wooden steering wheel. I love Skodas.

The new Superb is OK, although having the Golf/Octavia suspension it'll probably drive less comfortably at high speeds on the motorway (I mean Germany by night, 120mph+ )

Still, I'd buy one, but only with a diesel V6.

Some time ago VW has promised narrow-angle diesel V6 that would fit the current platforms. Speculation was that it was loosely based on the existing petrol VR6 design.

So far no more news about it, but then again it was supposed to appear around the new Sharan, so I am hoping for the autumn or early next year.

Diesel is the choice for me (range, safety, economy), but the 2l units give good respoonse only up to around 100mph. For UK it's enough, for travel across Europe it is not. And the 2.0TDI diesel has its problems anyway...

I haven't seen it in the metal, but the photos of the interior do look great. There was a group test in Autocar magazine this week of small executive cars priced £22,000 to £25,000 (Audi A4, BMW 3 series, Passat, Laguna e.t.c.) and the Superb interior looked to have a far classier design than most of those in the test.

Providing they price it right and it drives better than the old one I think it will do very well indeed.

Does anyone know if Skoda plan some bigger diesel engines over the next year or two? Am planning to buy a new caravan in about 3 years time and would dearly like a Superb to replace my ageing Octavia L&K. However, the caravan needs to be 85% of the kerbweight of the car that tows it. The caravans I am considering are 1360 and 1420kgs - which means the car would need a kerbweight of either 1600 or 1670kgs. Don't want to drive a 4x4. Any ideas anyone?

Skoda UK haven't said what we're getting yet so don't give up hope of a 3.6SuperSuperb

Either way I don't know about you guys but I am quite excited for Skoda - a real step into the unknown.

Maybe see a Superb topping next years JD Power survey :thumbup:now that would be an achievement for a brand new launch.

sorry - didn't think you could fold the current Superb rear seats down, but just checked the brochure and you can, so that figure I gave is wrong. Mind you, there are more than a few differences in the TYPE of measurements they give when comparing old and new.
