20k on the original tyres on a vRS!

Featured Replies

Hi all

Hells bells, I must drive like a Great Grandmother to get the mileage I have out of the tyres. ( But I don't!)

Anyway, they are now coming to the end of their legal life and must be replaced.

I'm a tight old g*t so want something that will last - I don't corner it on the doorhandles so performance needn't be up with the best - just something safe - whatever the temperature!

I've read some of the past posts but they all seem to concentrate on performance issues.

Any recommendations please? And also good places to buy from?

Cheers all!

20k on original tyres are you talking about the rears i wish i could get 20k on the rears.

if you want tyres to last a long time go for michelen buy they are a bit pricey if not most people go for toyo proxi t1 you should get them for around £50 a corner

No - thats 20k on all four tyres!!

Slicks arent illegal are they?

Seriously - there is still a bit of tread left and theyre not illegal yet!

Can I ask where you are getting your Toyo quote from? The cheapest I can find is £80 fitted?

Cheers

20k sounds very low if your car came on the Conti SC's - I had trouble wearing them down even on handling and track days!

Falken FK-452 (if they do you size), Toyo T1-R or Kumho KU-31 all offer excellent performance on a budget. I've used Event Mobile Tyres - Cheap Car Tyres, 4x4 Tyres & Run Flat Tyres - Mobile Tyre Fitting in the past and found their prices to be very competitive and their work to be the highest standard, especially considering they work out of a van!

Event Tyres

i've got some Michelins that have done at least 50k , most of it on the back , but since last November they have been on the front, trying to wear them out , but just can't ,

note to self , must try harder

My 53 plate is still on all 4 original tyres, car has only done 23k tho

I got 30,000 out of the original fronts and 35,000 out of the rears.

Ben

77k on the clock and still on the back original's :) Fronts lasted about 40k..

Also still on original brakes all round so I really must drive like miss daisy :D

20,000 miles to me sounds good enough, i'm lucky if i get half that!

if you are happy with that mileage why dont you replace them with whatever you are currently running? would make sense ;)

Thank you all for your help - I feel much better now!

I had read stories of 4k to 6k from a set of tyres and wondered what I was doing wrong ( or right!)

I feel sure they will be OK for a bit further- certainly the rears.

How far is it to the wear indicators, I change mine just before this especially in the winter time.

I dont drive slow, but I don't drive like a to$$er either, I tend not to throw it into bends, I prefer to do the straight line speed in the gears.

Make sure you check the insides, they tend to wear off first even though the outsides look ok?

I changed to using Bridgestones and they have been great, nice even wear so far, hopefully ger to 80k before new ones!

edit: I tend to go for better tyres rather than the cheap ones, it seems to handle better.

Ben

I got 36k out of my tyres before changing , had even wear across all 4, tyres ( the dealer would rotate tyes at service for me )

Just had to change proxies at 20K miles ( not impresed with overall performance , WET road = excellent, Dry road = good, Damp road = very poor ).

I thought the wear indicators showed the legal minimum (1.6mm?)

+1 for Event Tyres - they've fitted 5 out of my last 7 Toyos. Ordered Pirellis from Blackcircles this time to have fitted when my car's in for service, although haven't been able to get them supplied and fitted for as good a price as Event could do me for, so kinda wish I'd stuck with what I knew... :(

My original fronts lasted 18500 miles and the rears lasted 51k miles

I changed my fronts for Kumhos on saturday after getting 23k out of originals, although they were looking like slicks and the understeer on roundabouts was comical at times:D

got about 26k out of the standard tyres before I changed to toyo T1-R which lasted 30k before switchin to the falkens I've got on now.

On my 3rd set of tyres since from new and covered now over 73k miles, lots of life on the falkens so far.

T1-R are cheap and are the Falkens both grip and last well.

How do you lot manage to get such high miles out of tyres.

i go through a set of fronts in about 5k :o Dont bother rotating though.

Been using toyos and they dont last 2 mins, might try for something abit harder next time.
