Buying Advice - High Miler Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

I am shortly looking to buy a Black Fabia VRS. My budget is only £6 - £7k max so I guess it will be an older high miler that I am looking at.

My question is this - What should I be looking at with a car of 60 - 70,000 miles on it. Are there any common problems and when does the expensive service fall (belts, water pump etc)?

I would be grateful of your advice.

Cheers

There are a couple of threads which you should be able to turn up which have common problems listed.

Cambelt should be changed at 60k miles or 4 years, whichever comes first, however, some dealers are still operating the 80k miles or 4 years policy. At the mileage you're looking at I'd make sure it's been done or get a good chunk of dosh off so you can get it done yourself.. Water pump is not done as a matter of course, so worth checking if it has been changed. There seem to be differing views about how reliable the plastic impeller standard one is, but for an extra few quid for a metal one, it hardly seems worth questioning :D

Common problems are listed in the sticky at the top of this forum......

60k is high mileage?

what is the world coming to?

I've seen an 05 plate Fabia Elegance with 70k miles on it.

£4k

Well kept engines keep on going forever :D

I would check that the car has had full and regular service done, and check out ALL the receipts to see if there are any common re occuring purchases.

Find out how long tyres are lasting , as this should give you a bit of an indication on either 1) the tyres to avoid, or 2) the car has been pushed hard.

Check front suspension lower arm bush. My vRS has done 160,000 and had these replaced several times already. Easily spotted if the bush is not central in the arm, it's torn and will need replacing. Can cost £150 per side. SAJNA
