Doesnt break up like the plastic ones under extreme conditions :D

I changed mine when i did the timing belt week before last.

Yours wont be due a timing belt will it, having just had a second hand engine??

As said.

Over time the plastic impellors disintegrate, and block the waterways, leading to poor water circulation, and possibly overheating.

HTH.

Ok thanks guys :)

To add to the mix, though, I'm pretty sure a certain master tech's once told me that he's only seen one go on a VAG diesel ever, and that was after 200k. Certainly, the dealer I had mine done at believes it to be the case. I think it's an issue that affects 1.8Ts that has 'crept' to diesels due to people being aware of it. As far as it not affecting diesels goes, the garage had to order one in, whereas they said they kept 1.8T pump impellers in stock.

Then there's the fact that newer plastic impellers are supposedly better-built as well, and that GSF (last time I looked into these things) only had remainders of the metal impellers in stock as the manufacturer had stopped making them...

At the end of the day, though, I can see the case for getting it done while the timing belt's off, which more than outweighs the cost of the impeller!

My local dealers told me they've not yet had a failed water pump go on a fabia vrs.

Several gone - metal = way to go

i've seen 2 go on the Galaxy with the PD engine in it , both moon milers

where can i get one from and any part numbers?

If your getting your service and belt done at star, just tell Jim you want the metal one and he'll get it for you.
