1.2 70 bhp

Featured Replies

Had many Skodas over the years ,favourits ,felicias and fabias but I must say that my new fabia 1.2 70 is only returning 36 mpg at the moment so Iam hoping that when it loosens up in a few thousend miles that this wil improve ,

Can Iask what other members think should be a reasonable return of MPG for this car. My dealer seems to think that at present this is quite acceptable even though the car is used to travel daily on A roads at about 50-55mph.

Hey I drive the Mk1 version which has 64bhp! The new one is just a minor remap to get a little extra pep. I can easily get 52mpg on motorway runs without a problem! Obviously with lots of town driving it can struggle to get in the mid 30s!!

But yes it should improve after the engine has bedded in properly, performance should improve as well, it did on mine - dramatically. I love this petrol engine, in my opinion it is the best petrol that Skoda do, along side the 2.0T-FSI in the vRS - obiviously for different reasons!!

Enjoy your car!

Sounds about right for a new car. Ours is now loosening up a bit and will top 50mpg on a run

Hi all

We got a mk1 64bhp version as a second car to help out our octy elegence tdi. We love the car for its torque and ease around the city but only getting mid 30's per gallon no matter how/where we drive. Its got 25k on a 05 plate oh, and its a combi.

Could it be possible the car could do with some tuning as I find it difficult to pull away at normal rev's as the car almost dies once the clutch is almost released.

I'd be grateful of any suggestions or info,

Many thanks!

If the 6BHP Gain in the Fabia II is purely because of a remap, then it should be possible to re-map the 64BHP one in the Fabia I, but I don't know of any companies who do this as they pretty much 95% concentrate on turbo'd models

I saw a Czech company advertising a remap on this engine quoted at 80-90BHP so it's obviously tuned to the lower end of it's potential as supplied.

guys i'm not sure about this... but i think the difference between the two engines is the number of valves... i think the lower powered one is a 3-cyl 6-valve and the higher powered one is a 3-cyl 12-valve. might be wrong in this but i think that's the difference.

The difference between the Fabia 1 and the 2 is indeed 6bhp,but not the number of valves-12 in both models. The 6-valve models develop 54bhp in the Fabia 1 and 60bhp in the Fabia 2.That said,I had a 64bhp 12-valve Fabia 1 Classic which did indeed do about 3-4 mpg more in like-for-like driving compared with the Fabia 2 1.2 70bhp model which succeeded it,although to be strictly fair the 'new' one has only done 10.5k so far and probably needs twice that to give of its best.I too get 'only' 36-38mpg in mixed driving but this improves greatly on longer, more gentle runs(approx.46 mpg the best so far).I note that the 'new' engine has a slightly more 'peaky' power delivery than before,so maybe this has had an effect too.Hope this helps.

LOL that's encouraging - my Fabia 1.2 70bhp is on the way... waiting for it like a baby waiting for milk.

I had an old 1.4mpi 8v Fabia once... and that guzzled petrol like hell though I must say

Sounds interesting......

Can you remember who it was...?

Is the Fabia Mk 2 slightly heavier than the Mk 1, also are using tankfull to tank full method or using the trip computer? I had a 1.2 12v mk1 Fabia as a hire car and got 40 mpg, not bad as my vRS averages 45-50 mpg.

The Fabia mark 2 is actually lighter in weight. But same wheel base, slightly narrower and slightly taller body.

I've got a 1.2 64bhp estate, I manage low 50's mpg combined if i'm driving really carefully and coast a lot/don't use brake much but drops to high 30's/ low 40's mpg if i'm driving normally on the combined. Having said that, the only thing my car carries most of the time is my bodyweight.

I know it isnt quite the right 1.2, but my 1.2 60hp gets about ~300miles per tank, which if Im right in thinking, is about 35mpg ?

Not too sure on exacts, never sat and worked it out hehe.

i had one of those before my fabia 3 (needed a diesel i drive a lot of miles) and if i remember rightly it was around the 3000 mile mark when i started getting between 50 - 55 mpg

hope you like it x

70bhp version has a revised air intake/filter box compared to 64bhp version which used a combined engine cover/filter.
