Front Camber when Coilovers are wound down?

Featured Replies

Hi,

For those of you with Coilovers on your VRS that are sitting low. Could you tell me roughly what camber the front was when you had your wheel alignment done??? Or if you don't know, do you find there is significant extra wear on the inside of your tyres?

The reason I ask is im torn between Coilovers or FSD's to go with my Eibach springs. If I had coilovers I know i'd run it low, but I do a lot of motorway miles to work and as the camber is none adjustable i don't want to be changing tyres every couple of 1000 miles.

Cheers

Neil

front camber is adjustable. it adjusts on the console. the holes in the console are bigger than the bolts so it allows movement of the console in and out.

Anyone who tells you cant adjust the camber is wrong, i get fed up of telling tracking places that it can be changed

And I agree COMPLETELY, the line taken on other sites is "my mate works at a Skoda/VW/Seat main dealer and the camber can not be adjusted on these cars", that bit is sort of true - ie there are no rods etc that can be adjusted - but as skudmissile has said, there is the possibility to adjust by using the free movement of the TCA lower swivel mounting bolts and equalising the camber side<>side by moving the lower crossmember as well.

Im aware of this adjustment, but from my understanding is isn't individual to each side? I've been told what every you adjust it, it'll do the same on both sides... Therefore is only good for lining the 2 front wheels up with equal camber. So you'll still have Negative camber on both sides if the cars lowered considerably???

Can anyone confirm/deny this? Cheers

DENY ;)

You can pull both consoles out for /----\ and push both consoles in for \-----/ :D

It all depends on which bolts you slacken and which way you tap it

Thats excellant news! Thankyou :D So I can fit coilovers and still retain just a minimum amount of camber instead of lots of degrees and major tyre wear. RESULT! Thanks again

PS how many bolts do you have to loosen each side? Cheers

IIRC its per each side, 2x 16mm steering rack mount bolts, 2x 13mm rear plate bolts, and 2x 18mm console to chassis leg bolts.

Theres not a massive amount of movement. I have never really seen anyone so low that it affects the camber that bad on the fabia. sump prevents stupid amounts of lowerage

but surely the reason to fit coilovers is for better handling at which point you would want -ive camber and some e marked road legal slicks.... then it would compensate for the derv power and enable you to travel quickly and do trackdays....

I agree :D

But No need to compensate for derv power, we all know derv is vastely supperior to petrol power :P
