20mm spacers on vRS.

Featured Replies

I bought my 15mm spacers this year and they were the slimmest Eibach did with a hubcentric collar. They currently do 5mm or 8mm spacers for the Octy II but they are not, as far as I can see, hubcentric.

Full details here;-

PS> just seen full link doesn't work; you have to go through the vehicle/product selection to get to the right page!

Aye mine were 15mm and I turned them down on a lathe.

H&R actually do 45mm spacers for the RS

That's a full 9cm of extra track width on one axel.....Yikes....I wonder if tat comes with a spare set of wheel bearings

Chris

At the rate standard ones give up I would hope so..lol.

Yikes! is this a common thing? Never had any issues on the Ibiza rears with 15mm.

Another question though. The Occy vRS apparently uses 'loose' tapered bolt. Never heard of that....anyone kow what the 'loose' refers to?

Another one....standard bolts 28mm? i.e. if I go for 15mm spacers I will need 43mm (ie 44mm) bolts.

Cheers

I think what you mean on this is that Skoda OEM alloys (along with other VAG cars) uses bolts with a domed (or curved) taper to them as opposed to a straight (angled) taper as on a majority of alloys.

I thought standard were 27mm; but I won't quibble about 1mm.

For my 15mm spacers I bought 45mm bolts - a readily available size; also available in 45mm McGard locking bolts.

The two types of bots are radius (the curved type) and tapered bolts. Dont mix and match.

Radius are the standard type.

What you can get for either type are what they call wobble bolts. Not as dangerous as they sound but the collar (the radius or tapered bit) is seperate from the bolt. The centre of the collar is marginally bigger than the bolt. This 'loose' collar allows for a slight miss alignment of the collar when the bolt is tightened up meaning you can fit wheels with a PCD the differs by 2mm.

Quick off topic question Tom, what did you use as jacking points for the trolley jack, and do you need a low lift jack or just a normal one?

Ta in advance.

You can either jack up on the sill, as per the manual, but I chose the rear wishbone mount. :) Normal Halfords 2T trolley jack just fine, and Draper ratchet axle stand under the sill. :)

All VAG wheels are radiused as standard.

The four types there are as explained in my post above.

Okay, obviously the website I linked got it wrong. Bit worrying.

45mm radius head bolts it is then!

Chris

Why did they get it wrong?

Why did they get it wrong?

They link the Octavia to Tapered bolts.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the Octavia Estates have a slightly wider rear track compared with the hatchback - though its probably not noticeable.

UPDATE...

DO NOT PUT 20MM SPACERS ON A MK2 OCTAVIA!!!!

The back tyres rub on the rear arches when pushing it on the bumpy stuff... :(

Better try find some 15mm spacers I suppose. :(

That's a shame. Look really nice with 20mm spacers.

I had 20mm spacers on the rear of my Mk3 Ibiza. Suited it down to the ground. Thinking of doing the same with the Leon.

Mind you SEATs have always had odd offsets.

Or get some propper suspension ;)

Yeah, thats also an option!

I'm going to leave them on for now and just not drive like loon! ;)

On those dyke top Fenland road that will be quite difficult; I've found them full of yumps in the past!

Seriously; from your photos the clearance looked a tad tight with the 20mm spacers on and I would imagine your eibach/FSDs will make the problem worse; they may be stiffer but the wheel will be 20mm closer to the arch.

If you are careful, you might be able to get the wheel arch rolled in so that it is flat; that may alleviate the problem (but it would be easier to get 15mm spacers).

15mm spacers no problems detected on mine.

Hmmm, tricky. I have FSDs but not Eibachs.....i wonder if I can get away with 20mm.

In all honesty you have to be driving really very hard indeed to get it to rub - I'll be leaving them on for the time being :)

If its not rubbin' then you aint dubbin'

My mudflaps drag on the floor all the time, to be honest im suprised they havent fallen off, just gradually wearing down.

Ah, well if I do go for 20's at least if that doesn't work i can get them turned down on a lathe. Can't go the other way. :thumbdwn:
