Then you run light wheels, take out the rest of trim, seatbelts, all plastics, in fact everything bar the dash and two lightwieght chairs :)

Have you thought of inflatable chairs with helium in them? :D

If you take the back seats (All of them) and spare out it shaves about 60kg off and it makes a helluva lot of difference round a track

All 3 of us did for the trackday :D What an improvment. I Remember yours at hullavington.

Taking the back seats out might make it abit quicker, but the really smart people fold them flat ;)

who would honestly answer no to the question "can a Fabia vRS ever be changed into a hot hatch?" you only need to look at the likes of Shifty, Gary, Bas, Skudmissle etc to see what a Fabia vRS can be

is it a hot hatch in standard trim? compaired to the likes of a Corsa VXR, Astra VXR, Golf GTI, Focus ST etc, probably not

:)

 at this thread.

My take on a hot hatch is that it's substantially quicker than the majority of cars on the road. The standard Fabia vRS doesn't fall into that category, imho as it's a 1300kg package with the same engine as every other rep mobile on the road and they haven't done enough to it to enable it to put all the power down effectively or get round corners quickly.

I've certainly had no trouble keeping up with a standard one in my old standard lardy "Mundano" and I'd wager that the lowly underpowered Panda would very easily keep up with one, and that's far from hot.

Throw money at it to tune it and it's a different story .... but that applies to every make and model of car! :D

Chris

Well after having a passenger ride in Gary car on saturday I can safley say that a stripped out 205 (not sure what engine it had either a 8v or 16v 1.9)could not pull away in the start of the damp conditions or could a last generation wagon catch us.

Of course you can never rule out driver skill ;)

having seen the spanking mavis dished out to him at trax last year, that'll be all car :D

No Trolling and I said the same of the MK II Octy too.

Modern cars are just too heavy to have the twitchy checkable fun in that you could have in a 205GTI or a 306GTI-6 or a MK II Golf GTI.

No disrespect to the cars as they are relatively quick, but I really don't think any modern car can live up to the hot hatches of yesteryear. This is mainly down to the weight gain from safety equipment and similar things.

If the 205GTI was a Phal and the Golf GTI a vindaloo the new Golf GTI is a Balti and the Fabia a Chicken Makhani.

A rose by any other name still smells as sweet.....

Whooo whoo my car is up with the big boys now

It is scary to think what i have done in little over a year

And the pd100 fabias make the best hot hatchs by far..... dont they jason ;)

I think the point is though, we know it's not hot in standard form.

There is nothing wrong with a fabia, don't get me wrong it's a fun car, but as i said no modern cars really do it in quite the same way as the older lighter cars IMHO.

but given the way some people carry on that certainly isn't the impression you get, and if anyone dares to disagree with them...

Fabia in standard form, not a hot hatch.

Fabia in tuned state, hot hatch.

Fabia in high state of tune, red hot vindaloo hatch.

End of story

can't disagree with that

Doesn't this apply to pretty much all cars though? :P

Chris

Chris

Wouldn't apply to a Tata Nano.

Chris

Lets try it

Astra VXR standard =hot hatch

Slightly tuned = red hot hatch

heavily tuned = someones got way too much money and wants a fast ticket to the the grave yard.

Wouldn't apply to a Tata Nano.

You're joking right?

That thing weighs less than a fag packet, you have room for a bigger engine (hayabusa anybody) in it and could get suspension made to lower it. Flare the arches wider track.

That thing would go like **** off a shovel and still only have cost less than a Hyundai Getz.

Where would you put a bigger engine? I know some genius put a big block in a Smart but these things are even smaller and made of tin cans. It would be about as safe as getting in a plane with a Racing driver.

I wa trying to illustrate that in some cases you cannot polish a turd

I was trying to illustrate that in some cases you cannot polish a turd

I thought the goal was to make it hot - no need to worry about polishing or safety? :D Any car can be made hot with enough money/time/effort and then it's down to the skill of the driver to stay alive ... which is something completely different.....

Chris

Polishing a turd you say...

I'm sure M3/M5, AMG Merc and some of the seriously powerful Rice drivers would say the same of a fabia.

It's all down to personal opinion. As I said safety kind of gets in the way of pure driving fun. The nano has quite a bit of space under the bonnet (boot per se), certainly enough for a bike engine.

If you have to spend money on it then can it be classed as a hot hatch? Any car with enough money thrown at it can be brilliant - remember the TG Lada that was sorted by Colin Chapman?

So, no. I bought one, it was (and still is) an excellent car, but will never be a hot hatch.

Sorry.

It's still got a very heavy engine right at the front.

Get passed that, and yeah - it could be a hot hatch.

[edit: and with enough £££ anything can be made hot. Standard, it's mild, but then it does being mild so well.]
