An owner of 2 well used and appreciated cars, but one has been in hospital for a number of days and the Doctor is scrathing his head.

Problem being that my 1987 Felicia Est (102,000 miles) which was running sweetly has now started to cut out and stop for some unknown reason. The engine will run for a short legth of time, then just cuts out. The car has now had a full diagnostic check at the garage but the ECU readout shows no error codes at all. It has been suggested that the stopping is caused by a blocked fuel filter, repalced - no difference and a blocked catalytic converter - checked, no problem there.

Has anybody experienced such and knows solution/solutions, any suggestions it would be much appreciated to enable to me to get the old girl back.

If not then Lambda probes are common on the AEE engine

how long does it run for before it cuts out?? a few seconds??? if so i would suggest an immobilizer fault...

failing that, try changing the fuel pump relay

Could be a whole host of things especially if it hasnt brought anything up on the diagnostic system.

The car runs sweetly for possibly a couple of miles and then just cuts out as if no fuel or spark, but there is (checked RAC) or when running stationary it may go for several minutes before cutting out but will start shortly after.

yeah, the o ring goes funny and allows oil to seep out from the end of the camshaft:thumbup:

All petrol skodas since the favorit have coil packs, wether the spark is distributed by a distributor or a multipoint unit like the 1.3 mpi. Old coils went out with the estelles

I wasn't thinking in terms of Octy style 1 coil per cylinder coil packs; I was thinking in terms of an arangement like my ZX, which used 2 double ended coils, firing the plugs for TDC on compression to power and exhaust to intake strokes, so plucs firing once per rev, rather than each other rev. Does that make more sense now?

I have informed the 'Doctor' of your lines of thoughts and he hopefully has already ordered a new Hall sensor to try first. I will keep you informed of progress.

To all interested parties.

Doctor read your thoughts and spoke with a consultant and they jointly decided to replace the distributor. The old girl has now done over 100 miles and going as new (fingers crossed).
