Why ???????

Featured Replies

About an hour ago i decided togo fill up the RS, nothing unusual in that, and just an excuse to drive the car really...

I walked to the car, turned off the alarm, went to open the door, when i noticed something didnt look right. There was a strange looking mark on the drivers door...

Yes, you guessed it, some little scrote has decided my paintwork would look better with a foot long gouge in a nice arch-shape running from one side of the door handle, up to the bottom of the window, and back down again.

I've always had a nice car, even if it wasnt expensive they've always been decent, mostly due to spending stupid amounts of money on them, and NEVER has anything like this happened. I am just so damn angry right now, if i said what i really feel i'd be banned from here for life (i'm trying to laugh, but its not easy).

What the hell is wrong with this country?. I always laughed at the comparison between the UK and the US. ie, when someone in the States sees a nice car, they think "one day, i'll own something like that" whereas here its "what f****** right does he have to drive that". Now i'm starting to think its true.

Sorry to rant, but i guess theres a few of you out there who know how i feel right now. I'm proud of that car, and i work damn hard so that i can afford it, and something like this happens. I dunno why i bother.

So, the question now is,can anyone recommend a scratch repair company, or will it mean a visit to a bodyshop. I think i know the answer, but i'll try anything right now.

Sorry to hear that - makes me angry also - I try to keep my car looking good and am so anoyed if its not me who puts the marks on it, Friend of mine parked a new audi A4 in the new forest and went for a walk - when they got back it was keyed down both sides - pointless - car had have most panels re-sprayed just 2 weeks old!!

Your thinking is right - a body shop repair is the best solution - partial respray and blending my be possible if non metalic, other wise full panel spray IMHO

Panel shops do a good job and you shouldn't be able to see the difference - suggest a Skoda approved shop - to keep your paintwork warranty intact.

Thanks for that :)

Looks like another visit to the dealer then.

Sorry to here that. I would feel the same way if someone had done that to my car.

My advice is speak to your insurance company and see if they can give you one of their recommended specialists. From experience (Lookers Rover) the dealers can be a whole load of trouble even though the manufacturer approves them. Recommendations are going to be your best option.

Mike

I know exactly what you mean, after some theiveing low life levered open my (locked) fuel filler and siphoned my tank recently. I can only recommend a vicous, hungry Rottweiler tied to the bumper, with a "tresspassers will be eaten" sign around it's neck.

B@st@rds, all of 'em.

Phil

Sorry to hear about that Geoff!

It's the same with people denting your car in car parks; don't people have any common sense or pride in their vehicles??

Best to get the whole panel resprayed I'm afraid.

A sort of sticky question to company car drivers:

do you take pride in "your" car or do you just hammer it because it's not really yours?

Not referring to anything here, I might add (just in case;) ).

Cheers.

Adrian.

You have my sympathy MH

Words could not describe how I would feel.

Hope you car is not silver.

Good luck!

really sorry to hear that :( , the goddamn *******.

i always say i can't understand it but i can. it's sheer jealousy and a basic lack of consideration in our society. these scrotes once keyed every single panel on my friend's car. not content with the gouges, they wrote obscenities on the bonnet and sides. ( i was surprised they could spell a four letter word correctly  )

words aren't strong enough to describe how i feel about this and the anxiety i feel when i leave my cars practically anywhere.

on the related note of leaving cars in a car park and them getting dented - i was washing my car over the weekend and noticed a large *gouge* in the side rubbing strip. i was amazed - if that hadn't been there, my car would now be sporting a very nasty dent in the door. unbelievable.

regards,

 Sorry to hear it MH. Im afraid this is the sort of activity that has prevented me for a long time having a nice car for everyday use. My Morris Minor Convertible had its hood ripped three times in a year when up in Scotland at university (never stolen just vandalism) and since then I kept that for special occasions and used a cruddy Mondeo for everyday.

Now ive finally got the vRS and, sure enough, have already got a couple of dings from car doors -

On repairs - I haven't got much experience here but im sure in a previous thread someone said that the Wax Wizzard guy was able to eliminate quite a lot of these (but guess depends how deep etc).

Sorry to hear about this Geoff - had a similar thing happen to my

Micra (only they're a lot flimsier, so I had a couple of panels damaged

too). One repair quote was nearly half the value of the car! And this

quote was still cheaper than my premium would've gone up to had I

claimed on my comprehensive insurance, so I was in a bit of a situation.

Just polished out the black marks and painted the exposed bodywork

with one of those Halford's touch-up kits to stop the rust. Nothing much

I could really do about the panel damage, so just left it and had to

accept a lower trade-in on it.

My Skoda's so far "unbeaten", just lots of small scratches where people

squeeze past it in car parks and that. They really need to make those

spaces bigger.

Rob.

they could make the bays the size of a football pitch but you'd still get some idiot dinging your door!

True, but at least I wouldn't get so stressed parking, so my blood pressure would

be lower to start with when I flip out over the dings! :D

Rob.

I have to confess to being totally paranoid about parking my car anywhere other than in my garage, and this applies to my new Superb and my old Octy before it went.

My condolences m8.

One thing I try to do when I have to use car parks, and that is to park next to as new and as expensive a car as I can find, and just hope the owner is as proud of his motor as I am mine.

The worst cars to park next to are owned by mothers with young kids. Their doors usually hang around open waiting for them to be blown or pushed by the child into your pride and joy.

Personally if it was my car I would use a recommended body chappy (by friends not a dealer), view his work and get it done. New paint is easier to match than older paint, unless its silver in which case it may be a whole side blow over to be able to match in to your satisfaction.

Good luck m8

Cheers

I have no unmarked panels :(

Might get it resprayed in Subaru P1 blue for a laugh :D

Well, i just had the local "ChipsAway" guy round, i found him via the RAC.

Geoff

Sorry to hear your news , I hope you get it sorted by the ChipsAway guy! I had to have my car resprayed last year at 1 yr old when a neigbour left the handbrake off on his Rover Cabrio and it rolled downhill into my car , I needed a new headlight , indicator , front spoiler ,front wing, wheelarch liner and the bonnet and front pass door were 'blown over' to merge the resprayed wing in. I used my local dealer to keep up my bodywork warranty , the job is okay but not perfect , and now that the good weather is here I may be taking it back to get some of it redone. My car is silver too , and I know what you mean RE noticing when a car has been partially resprayed , I really hate how that looks and am glad my car doesnt suffer with that problem , otherwise I would have took it straight back or got rid of it!!

Let us know how you get on!

Sorry to hear your news - a lady I work with had some little moron throw paint stripper over her car a couple of nights ago , it splashed over all the body panels and stripped the car right down to the metal - unbelievable!!

Well, its fixed !! :D

I'm very impressed with the job done by ChipsAway, its absoloutely first class, bearing in mind the car is Silver

If you catch it at the right (or wrong?) angle theres a very slight dark shadow, but it just looks like a reflection anyway, and i think with some careful polishing in future, it will fully blend in with time.

Judge for yourselves.

Big  to ChipsAway, i'd certainly use them again, and i wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

My shiny, new RS is shiny and new again....shame i have to wait 3 days to wash it....:D

That looks like a good job, at least its sorted now.

Nice! :D

A much better result than I would have thought possible, and especially for silver. You must be really pleased! :D

Looks good ! I've got quite a deep stone chip on the rear wheel arch on mine  Can't tell wether it's gone down to the metal or not as the car is also silver , if it has ,will it start to rust or does the zinc coating prevent this ?

For the cost of a paint stick, I,m sure it would be fine.

I always have paint stick for every veheicle I run/own, company or own. White dots appearing on dark pain always annoy me.

Cheers
