Celerrime,

That is good news - nearly 500 miles out of the tank.

Car should be ready by mid-October.

I am currently getting about 54-55mpg but that is mainly with 4 people in the car plus junk in the boot.

ooops!! wrong section!!

Fabia Sport 1.2

42.1 MPG average, reset at fill up - 600 odd miles in total on the clock.

This has slowly been climbing. Now the engine is run in a bit, its a lot better. I expect (and hope) it to increase after a few 1000 miles.

I normally get about 43 mpg from my 1.4 petrol estate, but on hols on uncluttered roads, laden we achieved 48 mpg and unladen (just two passengers plus normal stuff in the boot), we got over 50 mpg. Quite impressed.

If you want to get 200 mpg - get towed along with the engine off by an RAC patrol! ;)

Just come back from a weekend at the inlaws caravan in mid-Wales.

Got 62.7mpg on the way down (96 miles, 3-up)

then 62.5mpg driving from the village we were staying in (Llangynog) to Barmounth (38 miles, 5-up! with Air con on a bit).

Got 62.3mpg coming back from Barmouth (with air con on a lot)

Then just got 65.6mpg on the way home!:D

To be honest, I wasn't trying that hard on the way there and on the trip to Barmouth. Generally cruising at 70 on the motorways, 55-60 on the single carrigeway A roads and 50-55 on the B roads.

Was just a bit gentler accelerating on the way home.

Especially impressed with the way the torque of the engine pulled me up the hills and the acceleration for overtakes was fantastic!

Just after we come out of the village on the way to Barmouth, the road takes you up a steep and winding pass over the mountains. Admittedly the economy wasn't fantastic on the way up (though 35mpg still pretty good for going up hill) but that 1.9TDi is brilliant on that kind of road.

Considering we were 5 up with air con going, it was cruising up the hills in 4th and 5th where in previous (petrol) cars, I was having to use 2nd and 3rd and might occasionally get into 4th.

Oh, and just rolled over 3000 miles on the way home so I guess it may still get better than this!

Just refuelled mileage at 3700 57.8 mixed driving (1,4TDI)

Steve, that mpg is brilliant for the 1.9! I'm impressed.

Steve, was that mpg using brim to brim or the onboard trip comp???

That was from the trip computer. I had already done about 180 miles on the tank going to and from work before we set off. Range said 310 to go so thought that would be enough. Ended up with the low fuel light coming on with 80 miles to go, about 2 miles from home!

My trip computer is a bit optimistic. I think by just under 10% based on previous brim to brim tests, so really about 56mpg to 59mpg. Still very good though.

And just in case anyone is interested, I did the same trip to Wales and back just after I got the car. Went 3 up on the way and got 60mpg and 1 up on the way back and got 61mpg (both off trip) and was driving a lot gentler than this time. So the economy has definitely got better over the last 2500 miles.

Just been to get diesel.

The trip for the tank (trip 2) showed 55.2mpg. The brim to brim method gives 48.9mpg which works out at 11.5% lower.

Fuel added = 42.5 litres = 9.35 gallons. 457 / 9.35 = 48.9 mpg

So the 62.3 was about 55.1 and the 65.6 was about 58mpg. Still happy with those figures - just a pity the computer couldn't be a bit more accurate. Perhaps it's Skoda's idea of making you feel better about your car - making you think it's more economical than it is!

I will ask when it goes in on Wednesday if there is any way of recalibrating it (I doubt it though).

But how accurate is the tripmeter as well , this will probably be a little out too .... ?

So it may well seem prudend to use the brim to brim if you want an accurate mpg figure. If not I could assume the figure might be as much as 10% out (manufacturers exageration), in other words @ 60mpg on maxidot the figure might likely be nearer 54mpg. It is dissapointing that the maxidot lacks accuracy as someone found out being short of the estimated distance to run before refuelling.

I have a Fabia II 1.9 TDI just coming up to one year old and also a VW Golf IV 1.9 TDI which has just passed it's 10th birthday. Both trip computers are remarkably similar in operation.

The Golf has always shown a lower MPG by about 10% using the brim to brim method rather than the trip computer. The 2007 Fabia is exactly the same. 10% lower MPG on the brim to brim measurement compared to the computer.

This is buying diesel from many different garages over the years.

Well I asked at the dealer if there was anything that could be done to make the trip more accurate and they said no, not at the moment. But if there was enough demand for it, Skoda may issue a software update which could in theory, fix the computer.

They are allowed a 10% tolerance on the computer's accuracy so I can't see them doing much about it.

I bought a Fabia 2 1.4 tdi 80 on Sept 1st. Filled up for the third time today and calculated 55.33 mpg. The trip computer said 54.4 mpg so actually less than the real calculation but almost spot on.

The last time I filled up I got 55.26 mpg. I hadn't reset trip 2 that time so I have no comparison for that but it didn't seem to be too far from the readings I had been getting on trip 1. This is for mostly urban driving and driving quite sedately for maximum economy.

So far I am very pleased with the car. I have no regrets about buying it.

We bought our 1.4tdi 80 2 estate 2 weeks ago. We drove a day or 2 before filling up (38.87 litres) but didn't reset the trip computer mpg (2) setting when we filled up because I hadn't read up how to. We filled up a few miles after the fuel light/buzzer came on. We filled up again today with 25 miles left till the warning light would have come on (75 in all). I added these 25 to the 460 we had covered to make 485 miles.

Anyway our first tankfull averaged 56.7 mpg brim to brim and the trip computer said 55.5... but as mentioned above this wasn't reset upon filling up. This included the required regular trips to 2500 rpm so for our first tank we are very pleased.

This included quite a few journeys of 1.5 miles and back (total 3) where the engine didn't fully warm up. These trips generally showed on the comp as being 42-45 mpg. About 65% of the trips were my 9.5 mile each way journey to work which is about 3.5 mile town, 5 mile motorway and 1 mile cruising at 50 on a single carriageway. I sit at 60 on the motorway. My wife went to conwy and back (150 miles in total) traveling between 60 and 65 mainly but quite often going to 70 to overtake.

To conclude, we are very happy with this figure of 56.7 for our first tank and fingers crossed this figure improves as the engine loosens up!!!

Fabia 1.4/80 TDI 5100 miles, 1st trip 220 miles (10 miles town, 190 miles motorway, 20 miles country) motoway was slow due to accidents/congestion. Tripcom was 62mpg. My old petrol Fabia1.4 8v only showed 50mpg at best but tripcom was 10% high ie 50mpg was actually only 45mpg using brim to brim measure at pump over several fill ups. Old petrol was average about 38 mpg careful driving. 45mpg on long trips and about 30 mpg around town, hopefully diesel will be much better esp. in town.

well i got a fabia 1.9tdi 3 estate first tank of fuel worked it out and i got 54mpg, trip said 55.2mpg

Well on the 200 mile trip home from Surrey on saturday i got 55.6mpg indicated, and i am currently 186 miles into my first full tank with 380 miles left. Very goog considering the car is 'running in' and my commute is only 10 mile each way on a mix of roads, the engine doesnt get chance to warm up properly. Will be nice getting 550-600 miles from a tank on runs.

I see you UK girls and boys have something to (NOT) look forward to if DPF becomes "mandatory" over there as well.. My driving (my car is a 1,9 TDI DPF with 18000km's on the odometer) is pretty sedate compared to "spirited UK driving" as our general speedlimit is 80km/h. On a long drive: 600km's+++ with an average speed of about 70 km/h my best reading on the MFA/Maxi Dot is 4,9l/100km..(and that is an optimistic reading compared to brim to brim readings..) I have driven lots of TDI engined both PD and rotary pump 1,9l equipped VAG cars on similar road trips, and so far I have never seen a less economic TDI engine than the one in my DPF equipped car.. I have driven quite a few Octavias with the "same engine" (they all have BLS engine codes) and all of them seem both more powerful and economic.. I suspect that Skoda are using cheap engine management in the "cheap" cars and expect that the customers won't notice.. (the fact that software updates regarding DPF regeneration on the BLS engine in the Octavia is not valid in the Fabia supports this theory) I would have enjoyed my TDI DPF engined car if I could drive it like any other TDI motor and save a bit because of less fuel spent, but as it is I can't wait to order my next car with a modern TSI engine. More fun, and the posibility to control how much fuel you use by being careful with the rightfoot pedal instead of having a "stoneage" ECU deciding how much fuel you use..

is it just me being thick, or did not one else understand a word of that?

Made perfect sense! Simply once again stricter government regulation trying to help the environment will actually hurt it... DPF wastes fuel!!!:thumbdwn:

Yea - maybe you're right. Could be that the only way to stop us destroying the world is to stop us driving altogether rather than just trying to make cars less polluting! I guess that's what you're getting at...

46mpg mk2 fabia vrs :(

my mums 2.0 16v tdi a4 gets 43 with the diesel particle filter..the new common rails should see us getting 50's again
