46mpg mk2 fabia vrs :(

There's no such car

And common rail diesels tend to be less efficient than their comparible 'older' diesel engines. CR benefits from smoother running and higher performance mostly.

My wife, my son and I drove to blackpool yesterday (about 50 miles). Averaging 65 on the motorway (m6 and m55) and then about 3 miles of town driving to the car park and the average going was exactly 60 mpg. Heavy car too because I filled up the day before.

Straight out of the car park and on to the prom for the illuminations. We crawled at an average of 3 mph with the engine cold for about 10 minutes before turning off the prom to search for a motorway sign (because Dan fell asleep). A further 3 miles of town driving to the motorway and then averaging 65 on the way back too. Average was 57.6 mpg. I'm very pleased with this return figure cos on the prom the average was showing as very low 20's cos we were crawling with a cold engine.

P.s mine is a 1.4 tdi 80 estate.

took a mate to pick up a1972 Beetle, I followed him home,110 miles, between 55/60 and the maxi-dot said 69.6 mph 1.9 tdi 11000 miles. the Beetle is great all original, even had a full tank of petrol,I asked if the gauge was stuck! cheer,s Mellyboy

P.S forgot to say that our previous tank returned an average of 52.99 compared to the trip computer (2) saying the average was 53.2. Not too far out at all. The mpg was lower than our first tank because my wife has had the car a lot more for ferrying the kids about in town... I have had to slum it in her fiesta... The average is brilliant fo the amount of town work she did compared to my motorway journeys to work. This tank was prob 35% motorway at 65 and 65% town work. Considering the town work is short journeys with 2 kids and pram we are very happy with this return. Our car has covered 900 miles now.

which engine do you have? and welcome to the site! :)

1.9 TDI. As an aside if you drive like your Grandad on the good quiet roads you find in Scotland (no traffic) and are very careful with the throttle, and don't go above about 40mph you could get about 800 miles from a full tank.

those 1.4 tdi's make a lovely noise when worked, I can't help caining it to hear the rythym. I get low 40's, but its worth it, for the noise.

SWMBO's 1.2 70 has averaged no better than 36mpg on the daily commute of about 7 miles each way per day, it's also very "lumpy" when first started.

OK, it's been cold and frosty of late which means it must hardly get warm but her Honda Jazz averaged 43, and her Clio 41, so the Furby is disappointing so far.

In comparison in my similar commute in the opposite direction I'm managing 54 mpg in my diesel Octy.

I couldn't get in low 40's if I tried.

I had a 1.2 petrol Fabia (70bhp) which got 53-57mpg on runs (17mile commute) with very careful driving, best ever was 60mpg, whilst the computer showed an overall average of 48mpg

my current 1.9td Roomster (105bhp) gets 60-67mpg on runs (17 mile commute) with very careful driving, best ever was 72.5mpg, whilst the computer is showing an overall average 60mpg

:eek::eek:

That must be careful driving :D

Yeah, I'll admit to bieng a bit sad, especially when work pays for the fuel anyway..... but I like a challenge and it kind of makes me enjoy the driving more.

These figures are over around 90 hours of driving. Just lost the 60.00mpg on the way to work this morning for the first time...... but just came back up as I rolled (probably literally, lol) onto the forecourt ! my trip average was 63.3mpg

cold weather makes a difference, so probably start going up soon ! lol

I really should get a life

Loads more miles more than my Dads Subaru, thats for sure

We had a Mk1 1.4tdi estate which returned over 65mpg in its 31000 miles with us.We changed it in March for a Mk2 1.4tdi estate, its a great car except for the mpg the best we have returned is 60mpg on a quiet A road, but over all 52.6mpg we live in the country and only do 5 to 10 % in built up areas. The agent was most obliging but found nothing on the diagnostic machine,so I contacted Skoda Uk and ended with the Sales Director side kick sending me a lecture on how to drive economicly.I am still following up this matter as what is the point of a cleaner exhaust if you end up using 25% more fuel. What action have you all taken on this matter.:finger:

FWI Worth my 1.4TDI on 6700 returns about 57-58 mpg. There has been a lot of debate on the site and you are not the first to express dissatisfaction with mpg returns. Most of us seem to live with it. One of the threaders that may be able to refresh the issue also did a number of checks and was adamant that the maxidot mpg was 3-4 miles out anyway, which in my case gives me a reading closer to yours. My return seems to change very little however hard or soft I drive it. I could not see myself how on UK roads I could get 65mpg.

Imperial Urban (cold) question.gif[/url]Imperial Extra Urbanquestion.gifImperial Combinedquestion.gif49.6 70.6 61.4 Just taken these figures off the government site for vehicle emissions. The 70 figure seems very questionable?

I've only driven two Skoda diesels, a borrowed fabia estate (1.9td) which returned 68.5mpg (and I saw over 72mpg before I got to the town) on a run back from Blackpool to Preston of only around 17 miles

I never quite matched that with Roomster that I did buy (although I saw 72.5 on a run from Preston to Lancaster). Easy 68mpg Blackpool to Warrington, and 70mpg about a month ago from Blackpool to Chester with two in the car. 'Never' got less than 60 on any run. (ok, I got 58 the other day, lol)

I think this is all a question of driving style, I'd like a go in a 1.4td as, on paper they look more economical...... I could imagine close to 80 mpg

Although, I'd have to agree that the figures that manufacturers quote should be for the average persons driving and not that of some mpg nut. Perhaps their figures are the ones taken in a wind tunnel in ideal conditions.....they're just not that practical to get on the road.

..... and whats the real saving in a year over 10,000 miles, the difference between 45mpg and 60 mpg, maybe £200. Most would rather say sod it and stick their right foot down !

had fabia blueline 1.4 tdi for 3 weeks now ,done around 700 miles and average of 47mpg which isnt as good as i was hoping for as wifes yaris i traded in was doing 45mpg from 1.3 petrol engine, so im hoping its just the new engine and its been darned cold, we only have b roads as such over here so no motorway driving to fall back on, will keep you posted .....

Even with cold weather should be getting a bit more than that. During this cold spell mine has still shown 57+.

Fabman:

My 1.4TDI Estate was averaging about the same as yours for the 1st 1,000 miles as the engine was very tight.

Now I've done 3,000 miles it's loosened up a lot and I'm now up to about 52mpg and steadily climbing. I'm not the slowest of drivers so I think it's pretty good considering.

My engine got a lot quieter after 2,000 miles too.

im glad you have said that about engine noise as they are a bit clattery !!!! took mickey out of mrs the other day got in passenger said and asked her if she would drop me up top field ready for some ploughing ,lol, she loves the gruff of the engine when its pulling though reminds me of watching v8 supercars from oz

In the past cold spell my daily 6 mile drive to work, I was getting about 51-52mpg and that is not going over 60mph and above 2.5k rpm. Now the weather has warmed up (a bit), today I got 57mpg, driving the same way.

Hi there.

New to the forum, so this is my first post.

Best MPG from my 53 plate VRS was Watford to Grays, 50 odd miles I think, 83.4 MPG, driving like a Grandad, slip streaming trucks etc, 50-55 mph. Average of 55-60 mpg at normal motorway speeds. Not too bad I think.

Scotty

1.4PDTDI

On busy roads in city 32 mpg (average speed 20mph)

On highways 47mpg (average speed more than 60 mph)

Driving style - hard

AC set to 20 dec C - all windows closed, 2 persons, no extra weight
