OIL TEMPERATURE DISPLAY ON MAXIDOT

Featured Replies

My Yeti Elegance spec. had it's first annual service recently having covered 8000 miles.

Driving home I noticed the oil temp. readout on the maxidot wasn't working. Notified the Dealer who investigated. Their diagnostic could not identify fault on first attempt.

On second visit it was discovered that oil temp. only displays if VARIABLE service interval is selected ( factory default setting ).

They had re-set mine to FIXED INTERVAL service because of my low annual mileage thereby disabling the readout.

I elected to have the VARIABLE restored so that I can monitor oil temp. although I will still have annual service irrespective of mileage covered.

Anyone else who has same problem can tell the garage what's going on and avoid unnecessary trips to get it sorted.

Have heard of this problem before on the form. Strange thing is our Fabia II FL is factory set on fixed servicing but still displays oil temps. However the Maxidot on the Fabia does not have the convenience menu, so to change door locking options etc. you have to visit the dealer :S

I don't think it's a fault of the individual Yeti - just how the firmware is programmed in general - mine's the same. So arguably it's a bug in the generic firmware (difficult to imagine that it's by design) that presumably could be squashed by Skoda if they chose to do so. But probably no way of finding out until someone manages to correlate a new firmware revision number with the bug having vanished.

Elsie the Helipad was delivered with variable servicing set. When James went through all the bits and pieces I changed the servicing to fixed via the maxidot. I still have oil temp. Service due at 9500 mile. I'm over half way there in under 3 months ......

Very interesting! the plot thickens.... dealer told me I can't change the service interval cos it needs special gizmo to do it which only they have. I'll try. Modern cars are too clever for their own good. I only got the elegance spec cos I lusted after the 170 horses. No regrets about the oomph but won't use most of the toys.

That is intriguing my Wife's Yeti was originally on the fixed services intervals and has now been changed to variable - the maxidot displayed the oil temperature on both settings.

Mi SM has always been on variable but does not (cannot) display oil temperature on Maxidot.

Its due for its first dealer service in a couple of weeks and I will ask them to investigate its absence.

All this 'special gizmo' is is VAS (their on board diagnostic computer) this can also be done with VCDS.

Maybe I should change my name to 'Special Gizmo68' as I can do it with VCDS :giggle::rofl:

I'm sure that the oil temp displays regardless of your service scheme.

So is it possible for the dealer to set this even on one of the early cars? Oil temperature display is equally important in my book, to the water temperature.

Trevor, mines on variable and shows the oil temp.

I don't have the car here to check, but is this one of the readouts that can be disabled in the maxidot settings menu? I know things like the instant mpg can be disabled for example.

Not part of the Maxidot menu.

Not part of the Maxidot menu.

This must be different to the Superb then, as under:

SETTINGS "MFD data" you have the option to tick and untick "oil temp".

No Gizmo - sadly not on my 2011 Yeti options :(

Yes, but that's in the VCDS system, not on the Maxidot screen in the car.

No, it's on the maxi-dot

but as just mentioned it looks like you don't get this on the Yeti

Incredible response to my blog!

You know more than I do , I respect that, I'm only repeating what the Skoda dealer told me.

From the varied replies this issue has generated could it be that the wiring looms were/are being knitted by a Czech Grandma cottage, or would that be Dacha, industry?

I can tick or untick via the maxidot in Elsie......

Oil temp only shows on Variable servicing?

Not available on my 2011 Yeti CR170 Elegance on T & D servicing regime.

No Robin.

My yeti is on time & distance and it shows the oil temp if selected in the Maxidot.

This was discussed at length about a year ago and the conclusion was that some of the earlier Yeti could only show oil temp on variable but the later ones you can have oil temp showing regardless of servicing regime.

But my car is much younger than yours :p

I've just been out in the freezing cold to cycle through all my Maxidot options - Oil Temp is definitely NOT there :(

I'm due to see Ben @ Shark shortly - I'll ask him to do a bit of ferreting!

But my car is much younger than yours :p
