Fredde's Fabulous Fabia : Fantasticly Fast!

Featured Replies

Hey there peeps!

Fredde's my real name and I'm living in the land off the vikings (Sweden that is, Norway is for weaklings ;) ).

I also have a Fabia which I am tinkering with and the goal is to break the 300-bhp mark the coming season!

Been reading (and writing) about the tuning-subject, despite my young age (24) I've still managed to be around tuning for quite some time!

My first "heavily" modified car was my previous 9000 which I had to get rid off due to having a long-distance relationship with a girl (which I now am engaged with).

My thoughts where going for nice performance, low consumption and good looks.

I've found that package in the Fabia vRS, testdrove it in December (30:th) and ordered it the same day.

10:th off Mars (my birthday) I was at the store to pick it up, and 1/2 month later there was a handbuilt exhaust-system (3" from turbo to the racecat, 2.75" from that).

Figuring that this wasn't enough (along with the intake) I took contact with V-tech.

They promised me that we would develop Stage 2-software and continue afterwards to go bonkers.

Sadly tho, they didn't deliver and 2 months later I tore up the contract.

Now, I won't bore you anymore with more unimportant and dull facts / bull****, let's do something fun instead.

I've heard some people say that pictures say more then words...

So you'll have a buttload off them right below this text!

I'll keep the flow more steady then this, just noticed this part off the forum!!

Excellent mate, car looks great and i look forward to reading about your project. Have you had the car lowered?

Very nice fredde.

Dare i say it, if your after 300hp you might be interested in the uprated radiator/intercooler package i am having fitted to my car, to keep all the temperatures in check.

When are you expecting to get this all completed?

Loving this pic by the way. Thats some comedy body roll there

Nice!

Get the suspension sorted and it'll be fine :D

The car is not lowered yet, but I got a kit for that. Weitec GT, 30 mm lower then stock :).

I've been keeping my eyes out for the radiator/intercooler-package but I think that the reason our cars got so high intake temps are solely because off the crappy intercooler.

I will probably go for the HG-motorsport intercooler (the big and juicy one).

I'll keep my eyes on the water-temp, doubt that it will be neccessary to replace that.

And yes, stock-bushings in the car still. Ofc it rolls like a boat xD!

Suspension is my least problem, stock-suspensions works quite fine for drag-racing.

Leaves alot to be wishing for when you try to take a bend!

Your right the inlet air temps will only be reduced with a better intercooler, or water injection and is the biggest issue. The radiator is being upgraded on mine to reduce the blocks temperature which contribute to the misfire issues. The extreme engine bay temps just compound the issues imo. I wont be going for any hybrid upgrades until im happy that the best issues are sorted.

When is the turbo getting fitted then?

Hmm, I've heard alot about the misfireing. I've never had any misfires at all (except for those who are normal for cars with stock-software and 100cell racekat, ofc ;) ).

I have to admit tho, the engine-bay is insanely hot. Wonder how bad it will get ;)?

The turbo will be fitted during this winter due to that I don't have alot off money.

Want to be sure about which software-supplier I'm going for first :).

thats what i mean.

More boost = more heat.

More heat = less reliability & power

Well, all engines develop heat.

Even if I would install a bigger intercooler/radiator it would still get very very hot inside the bay.

It's still the same heat tho that comes into the bay, so installing a bigger radiator won't help.

Only real solution is to vent the heat on another spot, but since I want to have a whole car (which I want to sell at some state)

I won't cut in the bay to create airvents.

Maybe develop an airvent that sucks the air below the car??

All engines create heat, but not many get as hot as this one does. My last two cars were just shy of 300hp and they never got anywhere near as hot as this one. Same goes fir oil temps, they were no where near as high as this car reaches.

I was pretty horrified at the heat in this car at its first track day. It limited my running time due to the amount of cooling off it needed.with this setup and my other plans, I'll be able to run much longer

Radiator will stop so much heat radiating out the block and into the engine bay, exhaust/manifold wrap and turbo cover will reduce the engine bay heating up so much, as a collective it will reduce the heat within the engine bay. Its not for everyone, but I don't really like to cut corners and imo this is a much bigger problem than on any previous car and is worth doing before I go for a stage 3 setup.

Love the rear lights- they look smart.

Good luck with the 300bhp goal, keep us posted :)

The radiator on the car shouldn't need to be bigger really.

There is some stupid solutions in the car (intercooler, the airpipe that is "hugging" the exhaust and so on) but those are still minor things to solve compare to software.

That's nit a bad thing though. Wouldn't let them touch my car

Hopefully a SAAB-tuner got a solution for it ;-).

Very experienced people, working with rally-cross engines too.

Heard good things about Revo, aren't they supposed tö be good?

Finally got my car back from the respray!

Got to say that I had my doubts that they would pull off the same green on the car as on the bonnet.

I'm however pleasantly surprised since I can't tell which part off the car is resprayed, a good work atleast!

This weekend, I will have a go at the exhaust-manifold.

Going over sharp edges and smoothen them out abit, then wrap it up with heat-bandage.

Will attach the turbo to the exhaust-manifold to test that everything fits as it should!

Next week, the front-end will come loose!

I want to know how much space I got for an intercooler... ;).

Why the respray??

Fredde, how easy is it to remove the rear bumper. How do you access the securing bolts

A dumbass didn't see my car when he was leaving his parking-space, turned the wheel to early and damaged both doors.

It was very easy to remove the bumper.

3 bolts in the side, 2 behind the rear light.

Think it was something in the bottom to!

Some plastic clips or something.

At tops 1 hour to remove the bumper and the weights alone and reattaching the bumper.

How do you get at the bolts on the side, is it from inside the boot, underneath, or removing the arch lining?

Its 3 bolts in the wheelhouse, then you need to bend the bumper where its corner meets the wheelhouse. Behind that, there is another small torx-bolt.

I'll try to get a pic on where I mean ;)

There you go!

When you have removed those, you have to bend the bumper abit to make it come loose.

Be careful tho, cause it also sits with the earlier mentioned torx BEHIND the bumper (you'll se it when you start the bending).
