This morning on my morning commute my car was stuck by an unsecured load from an oncoming tipper van. The closing speed was somewhere around 100mph and my A-pilar and windscreen took the brunt of the force. narrowly missing coming through the windscreen. I escaped uninjured. currently following up police enquiry and insurance procedures. Firby is in the bodyshop awaiting a repair quote. (Turner's Garage Ltd - one of Admirals approved bodyshops) http://www.turnersgarage.co.uk/

Good news was it was cought on camera in full 1080p video filmed on a DOD GSE580 GPS Professional Car Black Box.

Update: Got my car back from the bodyshop 30-03-12, couldnt ask for a better service from the folks at Turner's, always kept me up to date and returned calls promptly, standard of repair is excellent.

Firbys had a wash this morning and the results really speak for themselves. Total repair cost was £1954.13 inc vat.

Few things... Firstly, Christ, glad you're ok! - could have been so much worse. Secondly, how good is that camera?! And lastly, what a terrible, terrible song.

Thank God you're OK. Genuinely scary to think if that had gone 5-10 inches to the right.... :whew:

Did the Police nab the van driver?

I have to say, you reacted with remarkable composure and did well to just calmly pull over into a lay-by.

As other's have said, make sure you get a bodyshop that's approved with your insurance AND Skoda.

That camera has got to worth it's weight in gold. Show that to Police, insurance, Skoda etc and you'll have no problems.

camera is simply superb (excuse the pun) it captures an incredible amount of detail in even low light conditions. Its nailed the reg of the offending vehicle and the insurance company and police are scrambling for this video file now. best £160 ive ever spent.

Holy crap ! :whew:

Glad you're alright, if a little shocked.

Those in-car DVR cameras are starting to make sense to me more now. As Fosters would say "Good call"

Holy hell, how did you remain calm after that. That is some seriously nasty damage someone really needs locked up for that sort of down right idiocy.

Also I would be seriously questioning if that's even repairable as it has damaged the A pillar from the look of the pictures and that is a vital structural component of the body shell.

Thats madness.

I think i would have handbraked it in the road and pursued him but glad you got the reg.....I think i need to invest in one of these cameras with all the near misses increasing.

+1, You NEED to get it in a Skoda Authorised repairer to warrant your bodywork. My mate had a serious crash and it was repaired at a non-vag approved body shop and 4 years down the line, every panel that was repaired (everyone apart from roof and passenger door) is now rusting through rendering the car pretty worthless.

My mates Corolla T sport kompressor had a similar fait. He was T-boned at a junction, althought it was repaired but he traded it in last year after finding that the entire right hand side of the car was rusting away.

It MUST be done buy skoda to guarantee you a good, long lasting job. Plus you have something to fall back on.

Thats scary - as echoed by a few people on here im not sure how you kept as calm as you did - i would of been F'ing and C'ing without a doubt !!

The camera you have is a good investment, fair play. Just think if you never had that camera, you would be paying the price now as im sure the van driver either didnt know about the incident or if he did, just kept going anyway!

Hope they can repair the damage as its hit a strong structural part of the car!

WOW! you are very lucky in your unlucky moment. That plank could have gone through the windscreen and hit you!!!

Thank god you were not hurt. And great thing you had the black box - go get them mate, I hope he pays.

I wonder what happened to the car right behind him.
