Is your Air Con cold because mine isn't?

Featured Replies

I have a less than 1 year old superb estate elegance DSG.

Had the air con on low but it was throwing out warm air and not really cooling the car down. I ended up opening the windows and that gave a better effect than the air con.

Does the air con go quite cold or is this pretty much standard. Would appreciate any help on this before I call the dealer.

Also any reason why my wing mirrors would stop folding in when I hold the lock button on the remote. They have just stopped for some reason?

I too was disappointed in the cooling effect of my 4 month old Superb Elegance Hatch yesterday in the hot weather. My Passat's would cause brass monkeys severe discomfort in the past, one even emitting spooky cold mist from the vents, but the Superb was, as above, cooler with the windows open.

I have a one-week-old Elegance Hatch and the air con has been ice cold during the last two days of warm weather. On the drive home from work last night, I set the temp to 19 and the air con LED was on the lower light (left). Result was a near instaneous blast of very cold air. I had to turn it off after a while because the cabin was getting too chilly. From the above comments, I would say a visit to the dealers is required because mine is working a treat. Not to rub it in there, but to say that there's hope of a much cooler summer for you than just opening the windows.

re the mirror issue...try changing the setting on the mirror control knob..might be something to do with them not folding

The aircon should be freezing cold on the LO setting, for 2 years in a row I drove mine down the south of spain and the Superb aircon had no difficulty whatsoever in dealing with external temperatures up to 42c.

I picked up my Superb Combi V6 in the middle of an Australian summer. It was so cold (set on 22º) that I raised the temp to 24º. Even then I set the fan speed way low. Now let's see how it handles winter.

Well it's booked in so I'll update when I have it back.

Definitely not right. Even the A/C in my car can cause condensation on the OUTSIDE of the windows! lol

re the folding mirrors make sure you have the set the memory seats i had a new Columbus fitted at the dealers battery disconnected i suppose, when i got the car back my mirrors would not fold when locking car did the seats they started working again.

My superb is just over a year old, I also notice the air on doesn't go very cold, may ask the, to look at it when it goes in for a first service.

I would have though it could be gas as mine was working very well in 27 deg on the Scottish highlands.

Get the feeling this is a problem with climate control. I have S spec with manual air con and have been very comfortable with outside temp showing in mi to high 20s. Does take 5-10 minutes to max effect though

That's has worked and done the trick. Cheers

Air con, have the aircon checked by dealer, this should blow ice cold air once the engine has reached normal operating temperature. My Superb Combi MY11 did not blow very cold air, my first MkI Superb could get the temperature down like a fridge, my first MkII Superb was not as cold. This has been completely cured by servicing the air con, my Superb Combi now blows ice cold air, this was obviously faulty from new. Skoda recomend servicing every two years but I recomend once a year, you can lose up to 15% of the fluid by evaporation in 12 months.

Folding mirrors this is usually cured by opening and closing fully all four windows and is a known cure.

It will blow cold air as soon as the compressor has had a couple of minutes to work it does not need the engine to be up to temperature.

What was the final fix?

My aircon is working with flying colours in the blistering Indian Summer at 45 C. But I had to lower my cabin temperature to 22 from the 24 that I normally kept -

Mine works fine as soon as get into the car. No need to wait for the engine warming up.

My friend's less than 2yr old Octavia had similar problem, turned out to be a compressor problem and under warranty repair...

Oh man... 45°C is a lot. When is the best time to visit India for a Norwegian?

The next ice age!

While the wimming went shopping I had a play in 28 deg near Loch Lomond (and re-read the climate control instructions) and found that yes there were times when the cooling was not that good but if you work with the re-circultaion, auto boost etc it does bring the temperature down very well. If you let the outside air mix it does seem to draw a lot of ambient air in.

There are various settings with the system in auto that enhance the cooling effect so if you are not happy on how it cools have a play first if you have not yet.

Yes, including Auto-Low and Auto-High, big difference between these two.

Mine is just cooling excellent. Last summer in Italy with 35 C was no problem in Auto-low. Mine has the isolated window option, and that really makes a difference. My superb cools way better than my previous Passat.

The fix was just for the folding door mirrors. You need to reset the memory seats to get the door mirrors to fold from the key fob.

For the Air con, I have quoted £550 to replace the condenser as it has been "damaged" by stones and lost all the gases!

Not impressed as there is nothing to stop this happening again as the bottom grill is so open. Garage told me they have had 3 of these recently!

I would involve SUK then as they should put adequate protection on the compressor to prevent this. As long as you haven't been offroading or anything daft and driving your car in accordance with the handbook then i can't see how you haven't got a claim.
