Tom's Silver Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Thought I should start a project thread as I've started doing a few bits to the Fabia.

I got her about 2 months ago now, this was how she looked when I first got her:

Sorry for the bad photos, using my iPhone.

A few photos from the first clean:

One of the first mods I did was to add the cup holder next to the stereo:

Getting two new front tyres:

IMG_1212_zps52853bcc.jpg

Callipers desperately need a clean:

I then installed my old Alpine headunit from my Polo (terrible photo I know!):

IMG_1266_zps6534df6e.jpg

Next mod was to add some LED number plate lights:

IMG_1298_zps24b7d6db.jpg

I then bought some Team Heko wind deflectors and fitted them when they arrived:

Fabia really needed cleaning:

IMG_1461_zps9373af26.jpg

I then swapped the rear wiper for a Polo one:

IMG_1489_zpsec52849b.jpg

Also added the Briskoda sticker when that arrived:

IMG_1531_zps03c0ecf2.jpg

Found some of the multicoloured indicator bulbs in the garage so decided to put them in the front:

IMG_1530_zps49387981.jpg

Very quickly got fed up of the standard wipers at the front so I ordered some retro fit Bosch Aerotwins and fitted them:

Gave her a good clean, used some AG SRP I had in the garage:

One I put on Instagram (@tomwrnr by the way):

IMG_1505_zps4d959e08.jpg

I really need to get and order some Poorboys white diamond and a few other bits when funds allow.

A bit of beading this week after the clean:

IMG_1524_zps25825b80.jpg

IMG_1523_zps56da4b44.jpg

Quick shot of miles done and miles left in the tank after driving back from Nottingham the other night:

IMG_1518_zps4ef793cb.jpg

That takes us up to about now.

I've got a can of black Plastidip on the way so I can spray the chrome grille surround. And some retro silver on black badges on the way soon courtesy of PastyBoy.

When funds allow I've got a long list of mods I'd like to do, including:

Catch can mod

LCR front splitter

Pressed number plates from Dubmeister

Shark stage 1 remap probably from W8

Whiteline / Jabbasport RARB, not sure which one to go for yet

312mm front brake upgrade

AP coilovers

Might take me a while to do much off this list but we'll wait and see.

I'll post some more progress when the plastidip and new badges arrive.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks buddy, yeah I know, there isn't too many silver ones about.

Yeah lots of mods planned;

Catch can mod

LED upgraded boot and interior door lights

LCR front splitter

Pressed number plates from Dubmeister

Shark stage 1 remap probably from W8

Whiteline / Jabbasport RARB, not sure which one to go for yet

312mm front brake upgrade

AP coilovers

These might take a while though!

Looking nice and good to see you've started a Project thread.

I worked on the braking/handling side of things first before i got the remap done. Can highly recommend the Jabbasport RARB and you should definitely pay W8 a visit for the remap when you're ready.

I wouldn't worry too much about having a catch can and just let it vent to air. I've currently got the catch can but thinking about getting rid once i've got her running again.

Keep us updated.

A small update, my new badges from PastyBoy arrived today:

IMG_1532_zps4624639d.jpg

Thanks vRS19TD, that is what I want to do, I really want to get the 312mm front brake upgrade and a RARB before I get the remap done.

Is there a dramatic stopping difference with the bigger brakes?

And do you think the Jabbasport RARB is worth the extra money over the Whiteline one?

I think I will take a trip to W8 for the remap as they are not far away.

Okay mate, I was planning on just venting to air underneath the car I think, a lot easier to do.

Hope the car gets up and running again buddy

There is definitely a big difference with the braking and even better if you get some decent pads/discs. I'm still running second hand at the moment but will get some decent when they need changing.

I only wanted the Jabbasport bar and didn't consider the Whiteline to be honest. Some people will recommend the Whiteline over the Jabbasport but the best thing to do is read the reviews.

Cheers.

Okay, that sounds good. I am looking to do the 312mm brake upgrade.

I'll keep an eye out on here to see if anyone sells a complete set. I'll need the carriers, callipers, discs and pads won't I?

Cool, I'll have a read up on the reviews and decide after that.

Is the remap a dramatic difference?

Yes, you'll need all that you mentioned. You'll need to be quick on here as they get snapped up within minutes of being put up for sale usually. Check eBay as well for any Mk1 Octavia vRS being broken and message the seller.

The remap does make a noticable difference. Obviously won't be too much when you're only adding about 35bhp but will still make it worthwhile.

  • Author

Okay, I thought I needed all that for the upgrade. Yeah I have noticed, I'll keep an eye out. That sounds like a good idea.

Do you have any idea of the rough kind of price I should be paying for the whole set up? Or just for carriers and callipers?

Cool, I think I'll get the remap done at some point but I'd like to upgrade the brakes first.

Prices can vary. The best thing to do is set a price in your mind that you will pay and see how close people will get to that. I paid about £210 delivered for a full set off eBay but could have had a set off someone on here for about £180 delivered, except they turned out to be scum and disappeared with the money.

I've had my set on since the end of August and have done two track days with no issues but i would say to allow a budget up to about £250.

No idea what you would pay for just calipers and carriers though.

  • Author

Okay, I was thinking around that kind of mark to get hold of a whole set up anyway.

I'll keep an eye out on eBay and on the for sale sections on here too.

That sounds good.

I'm interested in doing one of the track days, is it mainly Skodas that take part?

I think it can depend on the level of interest but if you look at the Castle Combe threads, that tries to stay all Skoda and i think the 'How Fast' event at Bedford in June is all Skoda.

  • Author

Cool, I'll have a look at the threads and see what they say.

Could may well go to the event in June.

The brake upgrade is a very good option. I upgraded the front and backs to the Octy set up.

I got mine from gb automotive on ebay. Admittedly not the cheapest, but they are as new and you can chose the colour. I have black calipers/ carriers :)

  • Author

That's true. I'd like to upgrade both the front and back to the Octy set up eventually.

Cool, I'll have a look at them on eBay. Sounds good that you can choose the colour you want :)

Mate, I've just GOT to ask, where did you get that awesome side cup holder next to your stereo?!

I really need one of those!

Small update -

The can of black plasti dip I ordered at the weekend arrived yesterday:

IMG_1533_zpsda53644d.jpg

Nice little touch putting a bag of sweets in the box.

So yesterday I removed the whole grille, really simple to do, then managed to get the chrome surround off without breaking any of the clips.

The car without the surround while it was being sprayed:

IMG_1535_zps69b7c8da.jpg

The chrome surround de-badged and all cleaned ready to be sprayed:

IMG_1536_zpsa48fd0a7.jpg

I then sprayed the surround with 5 coats of Plasti dip. Really easy to do. I left it to fully dry over night before refitting it this morning:

IMG_1539_zps47158f0d.jpg

Next I put my new retro badge on:

IMG_1542_zpsbc5210d8.jpg

Thanks again to PastyBoy for the badge, it looks great.

I think it transforms the look of the whole front of the car and is a nice easy mod to do.

Any opinions welcome

Looks good. How did you remove the grill surround as I want to spary mine at some point

  • Author

Thanks.

It was pretty easy to remove. You have to remove the whole grille from the bonnet, there is a few torx screws and the bonnet release is removed by undoing the 8mm (I think) nut.

Then when you've taken it all off the chrome surround removes by undoing the clips around the edge. Take a look at this link, it might help: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/270990-chrome-grill-removal-advice/page__fromsearch__1

Not a major update -

I carefully took the old Skoda badge off the rear. Used a hairdryer and carefully pried it off:

IMG_1548_zps5c83b5d2.jpg

Then cleaned it up and put the new retro badge on so it now matches the front:

IMG_1549_zps954476b8.jpg

It looks good, much better than the old faded Skoda badges.

The Fabia really needs a clean but I need to order some stuff first.

Did you need to remove any trim inside the boot lid to get to the pins or did it just come away??

Looks good. B)

  • Author

No didn't need to remove trim. Just heated the badge up and slowly pried it away.

Thanks

Gave the Fabia a bit of a clean today.

I vacuumed all round and then cleaned the interior using AutoGlym Interior Shampoo.

Wanted to get rid of the shiny look on the steering wheel, looks a lot better now:

A couple more shots of the Fabia with the new black grille surround:

Thanks for looking

Cleaned the Fabia outside today.

Definitely needed it, the alloys were filthy. A lot cleaner now

Am awaiting a parcel from Waxyshop.co.uk and then the Fabia will get a proper clean
