More bizarre oil consumption

Featured Replies

Just when I thought my new vRS TFSI was a teetotaller, having consumed virtually no oil in its first 10k, it's now drunk a whole bleedin sump full in 2.5K! What's all that about then. No change in driving style, maybe it's the unseasonably warm weather we've been having, or the phase of the moon....

Having said that, the dipstick is more difficult to read than most, so am never exactly sure how much is in there, but the cros hatched pressed section looked pretty dry to me :(

Thats strange -could it be leaking somehow? With that sort of loss if it's burning it have you noticed any smoke/is there any on the inside of the exhaust pipe. Have you got some sort of breather problem/ blocked hose or something so the crankcase pressure is high and it's pumping it out rather than burning it. Guess it needs looking at to find out what's happening.

How are you driving the car?

If I pootle everywhere it can use almost a litre in 700 miles.

If I take it for a good full throttle late night blast daily- it uses about a litre every 1100 miles.

Seems mine doesn't like being driven slowly!

No change in driving style, mix of gentle cruise and full exocet mode. Can't see any leaks. One for the garage next service.

I guess it's down to how you're driving it. For example my TFSI seems to chew up oil!

I've owned my 2.0T vRS TFSI for about 5 months, done around 4k miles and I've used 4L of Castrol Edge 5W-30! To be fair though, when I bought it and first checked the oil, it was bone dry which was worrying, so required an instant 2L top up just to get it to a sensible level

FYI - I drive it fast sometimes, but not all the time - mood dependant. Car's done 54k

Mine does that and always has (~6yr). Drinks nothing for 6 months then decides to slurp down a liter. It's odd but I've just accepted it and check the car regularly.

If you've got or can borrow a compression tester, check each cylinder to rule out broken or worn rings.

It's only done 12k, I'm pretty sure compression is fine. Plus that's a slow wear process, mines gone from zero consumption to a lot in 20% increase in its life.

I'm not worried, more intrigued and slightly irritated because of the extra potential cost if it continues. I'm going to try reverse therapy, and slaughter the crap out if it for the next 5k..oh wait...

A broken ring is a sudden fault.

Hi Guys

Ive got a 2012 VRS TSI and it seems to be using oil as well , My previous vehicle used no oil at all that i could see , whereas since its 15,000 km service , its popped up the check Oil warning ,

I have just rolled over the 21,000 Km mark the other day .

Gotta love these modern two stroke engines.

Mine fluctuates wildly depending on how its parked, location of dipstick & sump design doesn't help. See link

I was just about to say something similar - measuring when warm/cold could make a difference as could measuring when you're not parked level..
