  1. Totally agree, I reported my car to the Police and AA that came to 'fix' it the first time it emergency braked, due to ACC, on the M3 with a car behind as i was overtaking a slow lorry in the middle lane. The car behind thought I had brake tested him as there was nothing ahead. The police were aware of the issue, as were the AA and recommended not using ACC until its fixed. Honest John has been contacted by many on here, but motoring journalists don't seem to want to raise tricky issues that may have them fall out of favour with the major car manufacturers. The other problem is unless you regularly drive the vehicle its not apparent, how many use ACC regularly? Testing a vehicle on a journalist run test track day doesn't find the day to day issues. Luckily for me its easy, I wont have another Skoda, sadly, as this was my 4th Octavia and I really like most of the car.
  2. I wish they some manual HVAC controls, its crazy and overly complicated to change some basic regularly used functions on the touchscreen, especially for us in the UK as its designed for LHD cars. Although I have not driven one, interesting to see the new Fabia has HVAC manual controls which most of the motoring journalists love. Personally I rarely use Aircon, unless high speed on hot days, windows open at low speed is better for economy, Aircon takes around 7-10% but can be up to 35% in extreme conditions, i.e. low revs / idling, but that's extreme!! Air con remains the single largest draw on electricity from the engine (the compressor). In fairness I do turn it on occasionally as Jim says just to keep it 'lubricated' but only a few times a year and I have never had a problem since a Golf in 2007. Aircon is more efficient than open windows at motorway speeds. Personally I am not a fan of Aircon 'smell' whether in a building or car, I prefer the 'fresh' air, accepting its rarely fresh!!
  3. 🤣 They talk a good story, in truth after two years of 'customer' testing on the roads their software is still a bag of sh1te! In my experience this generation of Skoda (Octavia) is the worst software I have ever had in a car, no other manufacturer has had so many issues with so many functions, some safety. They are clearly not testing it sufficiently well. I have had most manufacturers cars and none come close to how bad the Mk4 Octavia is, Merc, BMW, Ford, Audi, Fiat........ you name it, rarely get any bugs in my experience and none that make the car unsafe to use the 'safety' or 'driver convenience' functions like the ACC that Skoda UK recommended I don't use until they come up with a software fix for the issues!
  4. Yep it is mad... definitely nothing to do with calibration or radar, Skoda UK and dealers know its software but they cant find out exactly why or where the glitch happens. Luckily the display proves the car know exactly here the traffic is so it is not possible it is calibrated wrong. Calibration would always be wrong, not intermittent, and the car would appear in the wrong position to real on the dash, which it never has. They just don't seem too interested in spending the time and effort (money) to fix it. The problem is that although everyone has the same 'boxes', software is not tested (by car manufacturers because its not deemed as safety) on every 'box' configuration that the cars have, supply companies change elements of their hardware but the box is deemed the same. When cars become driver-less this issue will be deemed as a safety issue and more rigorous testing will have to be done to ensure there is either system resilience to failure or failure rates are in the 1 per millions of hours, more in line with aircraft software testing. Its probably only a RHD issue as well so again, low priority for Skoda/VAG to fix. Sadly they absolutely know what the issue is, and have told us, but they cant fix it. Its only one of many software issue/bugs the cars have so its just time before they fix it.... its only been two years so far!! Look how many OTA updates we have all had in the last few months, all of them say that they are software issue fixes and updates, none have given my car any 'upgrade' just slowly fixing the plethora of bugs.
  5. Yes, done the lot (may times!), had loads of software upgrades and hardware upgrades (all in the main dealer), I have the latest Hardware and Software, but even now it occasionally goes mad. With the latest software it is 90% better but still not totally fixed for mine. Dealers across the country have been dealing with this for at least a year, well ever since the car came out!.... they hoped the latest software would fix it, and it has gone a long way to improving it, but its not right yet. Now its no worse than say Front Assist not working message or Emergency Brake message when nothing is around.... There are soooooo many threads and issues running with this that the Main dealers are as frustrated as we all are.... It is definitely not the case the user is just moaning..... look back at the threads and see how bad it really is and how many users have rejected their cars and had them in the dealers for days on end. They need the car in all day just for a software update its that bad! Skoda UK have admitted the problem for at least the last 9 months to me but said they can do nothing about it until the software gets sorted by Skoda...
  6. Glad some have had no issues with ACC/Travel assist, but I can assure you my issues with both... plus many other 'safety and comfort systems' where when they were being used 'as intended'.
  7. Yes, I also got £250 from Skoda UK, they offered £200 but wouldn't go higher than £250.
  8. I would not want that on my car... I could never trust it if the issues with ACC and the rest of the software are anything to go by, I do like the 'forced' use of the indicator though, I wish more cars indicated when they changed lanes, and even better if it would force the return to the inside lane when clear!!
  9. For me, ACC still very occasionally goes mad, the Climate does not link if I adjust from the drivers side.. random 'Front Assist not working' and rare GPS loss... I am sure I have more but .... oh and obviously emergency brake warning when nothing is around!
  10. Does anyone know if you can delete/remove some of the software update notifications? the usual updates are fine they go when done but I have two I cannot get rid off, they appear every time I start, even if accepted previously. First one is red calendar one I think, and the second is reminding me I don't have an active data package..... not a big issue but a pain as they mask real software updates until i realise there are three update notifications...
  11. I had the same issues as them, its not a calibration issue. The dash shows the cars on the road in the correct place so the radar knows exactly where they are and they are correctly displayed on the dash in their lanes. The issue is that the car knows it is coming up to a car in the left lane (displayed to the left on the dash) and yet it still applies the brake as it thinks you are undertaking it. It keeps thinking the car is being driven in Europe and thus applies the brake. It will quite happily let you undertake knowing the car is in the outside lane.... I had to video it many times to show the garage the issue, nothing to do with calibration, more to do with the software thinking it was in Europe and we were driving on the other side of the road. Although the new software has 90% fixed mine I still get the odd time when it applies the brake when overtaking (and the car shows the other vehicle on he inside lane).
  12. I think there are two different issues, the ACC issue most of us are having/had, is that the cars on the left (and showing on the left on the dash) stop you from overtaking when under ACC. It allows you to undertake cars on the right. It is also intermittent (mine was roughly 50% of the time), the cars appeared on the dash in the correct geographical position so it had nothing to do with calibration. Calibration issues would show the cars on the right of your lane, not left, if the software was working properly.
  13. I am hoping it was a one off, although I doubt it! I have the latest software, I guess its just the way this car will be, you never know VAG might fix the software by the time the facelift comes. My daughters brand new Seat Ibiza FR had her Infotainment freeze the other day.. its pretty widespread across all VAG cars with the latest MIB. Although we live with it for now, I don't see how car companies will be able to get away with this in the future when self driving is accepted, it will cost the manufacturers a fortune if crashes are caused by faulty or glitchy software....
  14. Not sure if it helps, but, months ago I had my head unit changed by my dealer to fix the SOS and 'blank screen' issues which it did. They said at the time that would also allow my car to receive more updates as the older hardware would not be compatible with the later software. I think I went from an 'A' to a 'H' Device Part Number.
  15. TBH I never use it for navigation, but its really useful to have a view of where you are (large scale geographically) when doing long journeys, especially if you don't know the surrounding area. TomTom, which i use on my phone, is great for the route but not as great for surrounding area view. It also gives another option to check on traffic as it does have reasonable traffic information, but not as reliable as TomTom in my view.
  16. Just a quick update, after two days suddenly it corrected itself and is tracking the right location, I will see if happens again, fingers crossed its only a one off, but sadly I doubt it! I hope the ACC is back to normal as well, but I will find out later today.
  17. My OCD would require it getting sorted, I would take it in to the dealer and get them to sort it..... They may say you have driven into or pot holed it but....
  18. Hi just checking if anyone else has had the same fault as I had this morning going to work.... About 15 miles into a 100 mile run I noticed the ACC playing up again, picking up cars on the inside and slowing down.... I am on the latest software that had fixed the problem so I was a bit surprised. Then I noticed the car thought I was on a B Road when I was on the Motorway, i had a closer look it was tracking me some 30 miles away from where I was, it was moving but not in the same direction or location as i was. By the time I finished the journey the car thought I was 80 miles away. I rebooted the Infotainment and turned the car off and on but the car still thought it was in Hampshire. I have left it off and will try again tonight/tomorrow to see if its fixed itself or not... Has anyone else had this? Or found a resolution? Its not jamming as I run a GPS Dashcam that had no issues and luckily I Nav by my phone with TomTom, again with no issues. Luckily I never use the cars Satnav but this threw the ACC back into fault mode.... I hope its not another bug!
  19. Same, has anyone found where its coming from? Or how to fix it!
  20. As people have said it all depends on you journey profiles. Mine tend to be (75% of journeys) long ish (100 miles) weekly commutes so diesel works for me: Octavia Mk3.5 2.0 TDi DSG Long Term (150000 miles) - 56mpg Octavia Mk4 2.0 TDi DSG Long Term (7500 miles - same journeys) - 66mpg I am very happy with the Mk4 (now its software is fixed!) its noticeably more economical than the identical Mk3... accepting I now need to add AdBlue but I don't add much as I do long journeys and it hardy drops. Round town, on short journeys, clearly the iv would be a far better option with a home charger. Friend has had a Hybrid and not filled it up in 9 months! Horses for courses, as they say.
  21. Mine seems to be getting updates, I had to renew 'Infotainment Online' after one year though. Not sure its worth it though!!
  22. OK, didn't know that, my dealer said it can't update the software while on the move as it would be a safety hazard if the update failed or caused an issue. My car says its not available when driving, then pops up as soon as its stationary and says updating...
  23. Yes, mine went in a month or so ago for the 1896 update. No idea what the 'Bugfixes' are but there seems to be loads!! Had another this morning.... Almost daily at the moment.
  24. Mine arrive via onboard sim, I get a notification message, when I accept it it has to stop as I am usually about to drive and it wont update while driving, although one was a quick one that updated while i was at a traffic lights!! All done in the background, sadly there doesn't seem to be any list of them when they are done...
  25. When you get it check the software version, if it 1896 you should be good to go... If not worth getting as it should fix any issues that may crop up. Enjoy it, it looks great.
