  1. Get round ones; according to Alfred Neubauer's diaries, Mercedes tried using square ones in the 1930s, but the drivers complained about unacceptable levels of vibration.
  2. Based on my mk1 Octy, I think it's a split in the panel to allow access to the pollen filter without the need to remove the wiper arms.
  3. And? My point was that the only time there's any point to fitting a 6 speed transmission over a 5 is if you regularly hit the rev limiter in 5th.
  4. Worst parts of C4 for me:- Steve Jones. DC not understanding that the circuit is the dark grey bit between the white lines.
  5. As Gaz says above; do you really want to be "that guy" who lazers the eyes of the unfortunate behind him at every set of traffic lights? As for "how do you stall an automatic?", my Dad once had one where the idle speed was set too low.
  6. For sure that's at least some of the problem, because you'll be sitting with your legs twisted.
  7. Makes perfect sense to me, and I normally drive in trainers too.
  8. Does the present engine tune rev out in 5th? There's no point in fitting a 6 speed unless you're revving out in 5th.
  9. @Kade1010 - Well I think the noise is either fan bearings as above, or else an issue with the fan blades striking the duct, or dead leaves in the duct.
  10. If you have plain aircon rather than climate control, switching the aircon off doesn't switch the heater fan off. Oh and with climate control, toggling between AUTO and ECON modes doesn't measurably affect the instantaneous mpg on the trip computer.
  11. Well, if you'd just asked "have you tried your seat higher?" my response would be along the lines of "no, because the sunroof installation robs headroom".
  12. Not in the assumption I neither made not quoted.
  13. Teach your grandmother; the only reason I've not tried my seat higher is that I want to keep my head from pressing on the blind for the sun roof.
  14. Er, that does assume that the road is sufficiently wet for the ability of the more worn tyres on the vehicle to be compromised, without actually being so wet that the ability of the less worn ones is also compromised. And in this case assume makes an ass of EdenTyres and you.
  15. @skomaz @PetrolDave Yeah, but I like to sit with my arms bent at the elbows like a saloon racer or rally driver, or indeed like @TheITGuy is demonstrating. In fact, his text describes a pretty similar position to I use except that I'm 5'10".
  16. Yeah, but that means you're leant too far back to be able to steer properly unless the car has a reach adjustable steering column, and maybe even when it does...
  17. Thoughts as above; I've a mate who ha to replace the battery in his Superb with stop/start at 3 years old.
  18. Might one suggest that if a PD150 clutch will fit it's designed to handle more torque.
  19. It's called "white smoke", and smells of diesel. You're right about why it happens though. But I'm now suspecting your glow plug feed wire if you're lucky, or the control box if you're not.
  20. OP explicitly states that tyres are asymmetric.
  21. @SashaGrace - "Limited edition" meaning "limited to how many we think we can sell"?
  22. @Mattheb - How long does the white smoke last? The glow plugs on mine are definitely mostly dead, but it still normally fires inside 3s, and the smoke clears 5s after it fires when cold. No smoke once the air temperature is above 15C.
  23. Go angry; that's someone at the dealership not doing their job!!
  24. This might be complete nonsense; what alessa wants to do is increase ground clearance, and the only way to do that with a wheel/tyre package is a larger rolling radius, which doesn't require lower diameter wheels.
