  1. Which NGK? I had some problems with them in the past. The pins on the relay box look very bad to me, did you spary them with contact cleaner?
  2. Take a look the first part of this video, a 1300cc car with just an air filter. POD cheap, POD expensive and stock Paper filter Which is going to win on the Dyno?
  3. 22 years back i was younger with money and time to spend so as for "air filter" i have tested: Stock paper K&N and BMC gauze POD (we call them Cone) gauze or metal mesh or foam. Air intake (plastic). Stock air box filter with flap and without it, with one or two aif feeding hoses, with 2 holes without those hoses, with POD inside. Power in Dynamometer or 0-100 km test, ok so what is the gain for an average (daily driver) ? For me all these years was Noise, Low rpm lag, more gas spend, some power on high rpm useful mainly in mountain routs. My exhaust (from manifold and back) is now on factory diameter, passes the sound-emission test.
  4. K&N Air Filter VS Stock Paper Filter It's not very well made video (light conditions etc) but the guy did a fuel consumption test, the results after two trips with each filter were: K&N: 651 + 630 = 640,5 Km Stock Paper: 682 + 716 = 699 Km
  5. K&N RESPONSE TO MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CONCERNS We are aware of the "urban myth" created by a few dealerships that a vehicle's MAF sensor can be contaminated by K&N filter oil. No evidence has ever been provided to support this "myth" and years of diagnostic testing by K&N has shown that not only is this allegation not real, it is not even possible. https://www.knfilters.com/maf/massair.htm
  6. The first thing that you say to a mechanic (when you go for 1st time) or some times he ask you first ''is your car mammyish?'' or ''what you have on it?'' and many times refuse to involved if you have made serious modifications. Some mechanics have repair-shops which advertise what they offer, prices etc for stage 1 till 3.This is for N/A cars, the turbo guys are different story and have their own rules. Here in Greece when you modify a car more than the stage 1 then as we say here ''you are married with it'' because you can not sell it and only another ''crazy'' guy will buy it since the every day driver is afraid to buy such a car. Today i couldn't take a proper fuel consumption measurement, we have cold weather, light rain and a lot of traffic, i really want to see what's going to happen with the Paper filter.
  7. I just began measurements with a paper filter, it's not new, i have been use it for few months only. As expected it's quiet in low-middle rpm and gives a better feeling of "torque" at low rpm but let's wait till the TC-6 says at the end. Except the Ecu chip, the air filter i have a custom exhaust from A-Z which means from manifold (wrapped) and catalyst till the tail pipe (45mm diameter) and iridium spark plugs. According to the Greek mechanics argo my car isn't "stock or mammyish or normal" ,it's in 1st stage. Here the N/A cars 4 stages.
  8. In city traffic i think would be more than this amount due to the hotter engine bay. Day by day i am starting getting distance from gauze filters, their maintenance does not suits me any more.
  9. Another video with AEM intake and AEM Drop in Air Filter Replacement for OEM Airbox. The second is the AEM 28-50041 DryFlow Air Filter, No oil required. https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71AOx3WmN9L._AC_SL1500_.jpg https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81WkAlUsveL._AC_SL1500_.jpg is this like the Sprint filter? The result? One of these is 2,66 % worst on fuel economy.
  10. Paper filter, K&N gauze and No filter at all. Yeah, more horsepower with K&N but what about fuel consumption? muck on the throttle? particle retention? Real life conditions isn't as prefect as in a Dyno room.
  11. Greece is not USA on that matter, i bought the BMC filter many years ago and i don't have the receipt or the box (was before 2005, no forum-era, no e-bank records etc). IF (i say ''if'') they accept it back to the store they will tell me that will send it back to the manufacturer, this will take lot of time and when they have an answer they will call me but i know that nothing is going to happen. They put the blame on me (you expose it to direct sun, you didn't use the proper soap, you dropped it down, you glue it with inappropriate glue etc) and ''case closed''. The fitting was gently as with k&N or the paper filter that i have used, no extra push etc but when i removed the upper part few days ago the frame starter to fall apart ! The main frame of this filter was so fragile that i have lost the amount of detridus which were inside the air box. Was like cheap foam which gets dry all falls apart lin every touch. 2 times with different brands exactly the same problem plus every time when i was removing it lot of trouble to wash it-let it dry for a day-spray it-wipe the excess-check for spots which don't have oile-wipe again and back to the car. No oil area? no good filtering. Too much oil in an area? Drops back to the MAP sensor. Gentlemen, i think i am done with the gauze filters.
  12. https://calsport.co.uk/bmw-s-1000-r-naked-14-16-2016/sprint-filtersprint-filter-p08-performance-replacement-air-filter/pm93s This is it? 90 euro + shipping?
  13. The K&N filter plus the cleanong kit was bought from the only authorized seller at that time. The BMC from a parts store (not from ebay) and the guy found the code for my car from a BMC catalogue in front or me. Both had exactly the same isusue, the frame start falling apart, in both of them i used glue for plastics but in both of them after a while pieces started to detachmnent. In BMC some pieces stuck lige gum inside the filter box and another piece is missing because i throw it away plus there were many tiny pieces like fragments. With such kind of support the frame has gaps and air unfiltered passes through.
  14. Here is the BMC that i had for some years, maybe 15.000 km which i cleaned-oiled properly, not abuse it and trying to glue with specific glue the sides. Yesterday i decide that ''enough is enough" and removed it, i don't think that i will use again a gauze air filter after the ''lesson" from K%N and this BMC.
  15. This apply for paper filters too, better when are lightly used than brand new. I had a K&N filter and then a BMC (plus a cleaning kit with that red oil inside) but they had the same problem, the plastic on the sides start separating from the main body, i tried to glue it but this didn't last long. Was not a matter of abuse by me but it's not a coincidence that both filters had the same drawback.
  16. No upset, i am just searching things deeper but few minutes ago a hammer struck my forehead. Price for the Sprint Filter for my Felicia: P121S-WP 151,20 Euro (without shipping), 151,20 € for an air filter? Oh God mercy me!
  17. This guy with Skoda does the test better and at 8:02 says something very interesting: "People are not buying filters like these for their particle retention capabilities"
  18. Do performance air filters like BMC, K&N, Sprint let more sand and dust than OEM and is it worth it? We looked at automotive air filters and their efficiency on the Alfa Romeo Giulia and how the OEM paper filter compares to the cotton gauze style K&N or BMC filters and the single layer synthetic filter like the Sprint filter. Although hitting a filter in a hard surface isn't the best way to test the permeability the results were unexpectable. For sure in different conditions the results would be different (more scientific) but i think you will get the idea.
  19. You are right. No oil on the surface no blocking dust etc but this is ''double-edged sword''. I will post some photos from my BMC filters that i have removed today, i am very disappointed and i don't want to use the same brand again (either the K&N).
  20. https://issuu.com/sprintfilter/docs/air-filter-element-flow-analysis_wa_b9b4f7976f1b38 Trinity Saint David University of Wales Report about all performance air filters analysis and comparison: Sprint Filter, K&N, K&N Race, BMC air filter, BMC Race, air filter, Pipercross, MWR. Patented P08 and P08 waterproof polyester against cotton and sponge air filters
  21. Looks very ''cheap" video but the guy at 3:29 till 3:32 says the truth. Mine as i have noticed is dry which means i had to oil it BUT i must be cautious otherwise the MAP will get dirty.
  22. https://www.sprintfilter.net/automotive/products/skoda/1.3-mpi/15121 I was impressed by this:
  23. But i already have installed the original Skoda flap mechanism, feeds the air box with hot air from the exhaust manifold. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/499328-how-much-time-do-you-warm-up-your-felicia/page/19/?tab=comments#comment-5638614 Sometimes i wonder if gauze filters as K&N (and BMC that i have now) don't help that process or the factory paper filter does.
