  1. Mine is a 2018 Octavia FL VRS TSI 230. My FL comes with just a standard diff. The 230 before the facelift came with the VAQ diff and I believe the 245 comes with it as well. The heated seats were great this morning, so bloomin cold outside.
  2. I think you may be right with the dealers. The other strange thing is, my last car was another Octavia, that one was a 2011 MK2 FL TSI. I had that one mapped from 200bhp to 250bhp and never had this banging problem with that one when accelerating over an uneven surface. That is what is throwing me a bit.
  3. I know it's very odd. Tyres are nearly new Mitchelin PS4S and the pressures are spot on. I think I will book it into Skoda for them to have a look.
  4. So if I understand your post, you had the banging going over a ridge in the road, was that when you were accelerating hard as in my case? Going over ridges taking it steady is not a problem at all. If you were also getting this banging over ridges with the Powerflex insert fitted and I am getting it with a standard insert, there is no cure!
  5. Hi banksie. Reading your post has got me thinking. Is the vibration at idle that bad it drove you mad, so to speak. The thing that has been a worry to me is the odd time it really bangs underneath when accelerating and hitting an uneven surface. It's like a sledge hammer hitting the chassis of the car. Feels like it's going to damage something. Should I put up with the odd bang, or put up with vibration at idle with the dogbone fitted?
  6. Yes mate once fitted I will post which one I went for and how it effects the car. I also read a long series of posts on the subject and was leaning towards the yellow.
  7. Hi Ads 230 I have just had the car up on the jack and can see no problems. Not even a weep from the shock. It does not sound like heatshield, or even exhaust hitting something noise. Too much of a solid bang. I am also at this moment looking at fitting the Dogbone mount, just deciding which one to use that will give the least vibration.
  8. Thanks for this extra information. I have just read a few of the posts trying to get an accurate idea on whether to fit one, or not. Don't fancy any extra vibration, but don't like the odd time it bangs at the front. When it happens it feels like somebody is hitting the underneath of the car with a sledge hammer. Never get the bang when accelerating hard on most surfaces, even when I get the odd flash of the traction control light, it's just when the car hits a bad uneven surface it happens. Only happened 4 times in the last 3-4 months, so not too bad I guess.
  9. Have heard about the dogbone insert, but got a little bit put off by the stories of vibration. As for the tyres, I have some great ones all round. Mitchelin PS4S, 235 /35/ 19.
  10. Hi all Somebody must have had this problem in the past, so I thought I would pick a couple of your brains. It has really started to happen more since the remap, as the extra power seems to upset the car when accelerating and hitting a very rough surface. Get a pothole and there is sometimes a hard bang from the front of the car, usually on the near side. I think it's down to the average shock absorbers fitted to my Octavia VRS, details of car below. It just seems the shocks are either fully extending or compressing that is causing the bang. They can't manage the job they are meant to do. On my previous Octavia VRS, a 2011 fl model, I fitted Bilstein B8 shocks all round, which did a brilliant job of absorbing the bumps and uneven surfaces. Do I really need to spend on new better quality shocks for a car that has only done 20k miles? In normal driving you never get this problem, as the car is smooth and handles quite well.
  11. Here is my second Octavia VRS TSI, as I previously had a 2011 MK2 fl.
  12. Not great that unexpected increase in price, but hopefully when you hear that new exhaust, it will fell worth it. Maybe you could ask them to try to get in touch with Tony, hopefully he will remember his quote to you, even might have written it down somewhere.
  13. I am fully in agreement with PetrolDave and ScoutCJB on their opinion of the P Zeros. Had them on from new, but when I mapped my car, changed all four for the Michelin PS4S. The P Zeros could not handle the grip on my car when it was standard in the wet, so with the mapped 329bhp, I knew I needed something with far more grip. Extremely happy with the Michelins. Never had any sawtooth problems with the P Zeros though.
  14. Lane assist. When I picked up my nice shiny 9 month old car from Skoda, as I did not then know all the tech and how to work it, I asked the sales guy to do two things. To link my phone to the cars system and turn off lane assist. I make use of the other side of the road to get a better safer view around left hand blind bends. Straight line S bends where you can see it's safe to do so. Go over the centre line with lane assist without a signal and it gives the steering a little pull to encourage me to get back in. Change lanes on dual carriageways or motorways, and don't indicate, after all when there is nobody to indicate too, why talk to yourself, the steering again gets it in it's head I must be dozing off, so tries to get me back into lane again. Don't need the bloomin car to steer for me thank you. So it has been turned off since I bought the car and never will be turned on again while the car is in my ownership. Personal opinion of course guys!
  15. Same story as weyland. I also had a MK2 Octavia VRS a while ago and fitted a rear Whiteline ARB. Improved handling around corners with less body roll. It did mean a touch of oversteer, but more than controllable if you know what you are doing. I also fitted Bilstein B8 shocks and poly bushed the front wishbones. The old MK2 Octavia VRS certainly then handled with those upgrades, better than my present MK3. Maybe one day the MK3 will get some extra bits.
  16. With all the electrical components in the modern engine bay, I would avoid power washing. With pressure, the water could get into places that end up being expensive. It's not like my early days of motoring where you merely covered up a couple of bits of wiring and distributor and away you go. I keep my engine bay so that you can see your face in it, but I take the plastics off to clean them, then clean the rest of the engine bay one piece at a time.
  17. Hi Ace2k Welcome to a very useful, active and informative site. Anything you need to know, there is usually somebody here who can supply the information.
  18. Took this photo during lockdown, on one of my short drives to keep the car all charged up. Yes I know, a bit naughty driving out during that period. This was taken on my Samsung phone camera near the Ridgeway Hills, which are situated just behind the car out of sight. As you can see, great weather back then in May.
  19. Welcome Pigman. You have now joined a very informative active site. I am on my second Octavia VRS TSI and I just love them. Comfortable cars with lots of load space and as you probably know already coming from a Golf GTI, these engines are very easily mapped if ever you want that extra power. What's not to like! If your car is in Race Blue, that was the colour of my previous one. Gone for a darker colour now so that I can creep up on you. lol
  20. Spare wheel every time. My car also came with a can of gunk only, just like my previous Octavia. With my previous car I bought a full size steel wheel. and needed it too. Hit a pothole and badly damaged the N/S front tyre. Used the spare to drive safe until I could have a new tyre fitted. One month later, hit another pothole with the same wheel as last time while turning right on a roundabout. Completely burst the new tyre I had fitted only a month ago. On went the spare wheel to get me home. So after not having a puncture for decades before that, had two occasions in one month where a spare wheel was needed. With my present car, I have bought a space saver wheel this time, just in case bad luck strikes again!
  21. With great power comes great responsibility! (Spiderman quote) So very true.
  22. When I had a long wait while they made up and fitted my exhaust, they pointed me in the direction of the bus stop and shopping centre. Bit of shopping, plenty of coffees and a bit of boredom, job done.
  23. I can vouch for Tony Banks as well, as I had a custom exhaust fitted by them on my previous Octavia VRS.
  24. So, you have moved away from the darkside to the light. Feel the force of the petrol VRS. Glad to say the driving mode in my VRS 230 stays where I leave it.
  25. That is very nice. People have no problem seeing you coming then.
