Driving Modes
You effectively get two modes anyway, normal and sport. On the older models, just flicked the gear lever back to change it (or if you have gear paddles by steering wheel could do that), but these days it's more of a switch than a lever in the middle

Skoda Kamiq - £3500 Deposit Contribution PCP - Early Settlement
You do not need to pay it back. The concept is that all the big car manufacturers own or have tie ups with finance divisions. Usually the deal is deposit + x months at £Y + final payment of £Z. If you add up the payments they are often few thousand more than cash price. So basically they make more if you take the deal and pay it to the end. The finance and credit laws in UK give you a 14 day cooling off period (from date of signing which is usually just before car pick up). They take risk only a small percentage will pay it off quickly (and the discount you get is effectively subsidised by the majority who don't settle in full). It's not advertised as such but your discount you keep is a subsidy from the poorer who can't afford to buy the car in one go.

Variable boot floor is no more - now called "slide-out bathtub"??
Unless Skoda have recently stopped doing them, there were variable boot floor kits for every model. Even had one fitted in a Roomster (which was never an option in UK) so dogs had flat floor. Dealer part Dept looked it up and ordered it. Terrible grip on stock VRS
At what temperature ? The factory fits tyres that are not designed for cold weather, they are designed to give good WLTP emissions rating (at test temperature which is nearer +23c) and good performance when driving in warmer months. These sort of tyres don't deal well with cold rain and cold damp days. The solution is to fit winter tyres (or good all season tyres). If you don't believe me I could spin the factory tyres pulling out of side turnings on cold damp days (and mine is only a 1 litre DSG). I now use winter tyres from about end Oct to April and the factory wheels and tyres Apr-Oct. Never been able to spin them since. A TDI engine is lot heavier, than tsi, so not lot of deadweight to assist any poor grip.

I wouldn't compare a TDI from many years ago to one equipped to euro6e emissions. You are comparing a simple engine with basic emissions equipment to one with new sensitive stuff The new ones have lots of extra complicated and possibly unreliable emissions equipment added on, whose longevity is not yet known. You need to look at extra cost of TDI, and potential repair costs, which might be lot more than extra cost of fuel

Replacing 19" alloys for 17" alloys to improve comfort
Unfortunately the vain people in marketing don't understand the poor condition of UK rural tarmac, so keep fitting big wheels for looks rather than smaller rims and deeper tyres for comfort. I looked at two Skodas in a showroom today .... Karoq and Kamiq.
Used to have a Yeti (and wife drove a Roomster for many years), and enjoyed both cars. I got a very cheap lease deal on a 2016 Yeti, but when it went back (summer 2018) was rather stuck and ended up getting a Seat Arona (this was before Kamiq was launched). But circumstances change, now retired, daughter now lives elsewhere, no dogs, and don't need the space. So starting to look again for a new car. What is worrying me is if you look at those who bought when we did (or earlier) they are all happy with their cars, but the threads with those you have 2024-25 cars just seem full of moaning about electronics, software updates, annoying safety systems that don't like UK speed signs and road markings etc So in a complete quandary, if changing will just become source of regret, why can't anyone just offer a comfortable car that's easy to get into, with height adjustable passenger seat (many manufacturers don't so other half has to be standard size) without lots of mobile office connected gizmos. Both Kamiq and Karoq are off my shortlist (too many on these forums highlighting annoying / irritating software), which won't notice on short test drive. Don't laugh but I quite like the retro look of new Renault 4 which comes out this autumn (and it has same gubbins underneath as car of the year the Renault 5)

Good high performance summer tyre, both in dry and normal temperature rain. But apparently not that good in cold rain, sleet, frost etc because they are seasonal, and not all year tyres.

Bush's, Brakes and Front Shocks after 22k miles
Brakes and discs are not really a mileage thing. Clearly if you live in a very hilly area, or drive in heavy urban traffic, you use brakes lot more than someone cruising along open road. Pads at 50% are ok and don't need changing unless doing discs. If discs are surface rust don't worry, if bits are flaking off then change is sensible. Shock absorbers leaking need changing, but token bit of misting is not uncommon and doesn't need doing. (Although if they are being done for free under warranty then get it done, as will get new parts for nowt) Bushes, much harder to know from description, obviously rubber deteriorates with age. However the term unbond (rather than splitting, cracking, perishing etc) sounds like they weren't stuck properly when manufactured, so there is case for those to be fixed under warranty as a build fault too. Although wear and tear of suspension components is often excluded from warranty. Think they need to clarify bonding that sounds like it didn't stick properly.

After the second week in March Not by second week, that's rather open ended If you are regretting buying it, then list all the features that were advertised but aren't there, say they aren't able to rectify within reasonable time, and reject it. If you see a card machine on sales desk, point at it, offer your keys and debit card and ask for the refund to the card. It usually wakes them up you are serious. Remember your contract is under consumer law with dealership (and under consumer law you can return faulty goods). Dealers have a completely unrelated commercial contract with Skoda UK, so don't accept waffle your rejection depends on Skoda UK, it doesn't (you have no contract with Skoda UK). Dealers can follow under their commercial contract in their own time afterwards

I am looking a getting a new Fabia 1.5 Monte Carlo Edition thoughts and concerns please?
If you wife is not intending to haul around loads of luggage, or regularly carry lots of passengers, or you live in very hilly area, then I too wonder if the 1.5 is worth the extra over the 1.0 (116). These tsi engines work brilliantly well with DSG gearboxes, but if you are used to a diesel, you will find they rev very freely, but don't have much torque at low revs, so manual gearbox can be hard work in traffic and city driving as under hard acceleration can be changing gear every few seconds. If you are mulling both a Fabia and a Kamiq, then also worth checking out specs and offers on the Scala which is sort of between them.

Depends on long term reliability. To some extent PHEVs have two power units, so more complexity and more to maintain. The older car market tends to shun anything that requires specialist (and expensive) mechanics and technicians. Probably of more concern is the pending 2025 overhaul of PHEV emissions (as there is evidence lot of owners infrequently (or never) charge them at home. If tax system changes (or tax rates become reclassified), could potentially fall out of favour. Without a tax break, not any real advantage over petrol version, just more cost to buy and maintain which might never be recovered in fuel savings

Surprise(?) Enyaq Facelift
Basically they have changed to front to look like the new family style that was recently launched with Elroq. Most of the other tweaks are minor, but good excuse if as a manufacturer hoping to squeeze in a price rise (let's see if they do)

Do Skoda have a small (Fabia) Hybrid ready to go yet?
The simple answer is no plans for small hybrid. VW Group are moving to electric cars, Cupra Raval, then later in year VW ID2 (basically same car in different specs). Skoda is getting different version called Epiq (probably in 2026) If you want small hybrid, perhaps look at Suzuki or Toyota If you want a small electric car, then in addition to above list, there is (available during 2025) Alfa Romeo Junior, Citroen e-C3, Hyundai Inster, Fiat Grande Panda, Ford Puma gen-E, Jeep Avenger, Leapmotor T-03, Renault 5, Renault 4, etc

Seat help - new car and seats murder my back
Surprisingly most people do not know how to correctly adjust their seating position, they know how to move things, but not the correct order to set them up. Basically they forget that the pedals are fixed, but steering wheel can be moved so they don't set up seating position starting at lower legs, instead start from arms and shoulders. I assume you mean AS210 There is a new all season in their range AS220 (no idea how good it is, but logically ought to be better than older version)

Change it for an IV
You will not get a new one for £24k. Year or two back was a shortage of components and big production backlog, sales of iv versions were suspended for months, so finding one that you like might be hard work. From memory Octavia sales were suspended for much longer. Without knowing your mileage, or type of usage (short town journeys, big hauls fully loaded etc), you have to decide if paying the few thousand pounds extra for an iv over the tsi version makes sense. Unless you do lots of short journeys on charge at home electric then probably cutting fuel bill from around £150 for every 1000 miles in a tsi to about £110 per thousand miles in an iv. Let's say £1000 every 20-25k miles. So if need to pay a £5k premium for iv then only really going to save if do over 100k miles. Of course if you are replacing a 2014 version, then have to assume keep car for 10 years, and to be honest some of the latest models to euro6e emissions spec have new equipment that no one knows how long they will last trouble free in real world. Generally more gadgets that are fitted equals more bits that can potentially fail and need expensive repair. All worth considering.

ACC in Snow
Had a similar thing whilst snowing, front sensor impaired message pulled over, found a sleety icy slush was stuck to it. Wiped it off, restarted car and error cleared few seconds later. Wouldn't call it a fault.
