  1. I guess it depends on if can you get a replacement for less than your currently paying, or if you can get a better deal on your new car by changing early.
  2. If your just swapping the wheels over do you really need axle stands? Could you not just do one corner at a time?
  3. I'm not sure this is a new update. I updated mine in June, my current map version is ECE 1 2016/17 which is the same as the one showing on the update portal... Back in June I posted a direct link to the download on another thread, which was http://infotainment-cdn.skoda-auto.com/base/downloaders/STD2_0635_EU_1_2016_2017/Downloader.exe?ver=636006251797169461&extension=.exe The direct link I get this time is almost identical June: downloaders/STD2_0635_EU_1_2016_2017/Downloader.exe?ver=636006251797169461&extension=.exe Now: downloaders/STD2_0635_EU_1_2016_2017/Downloader.exe?ver=636141305689648527&extension=.exe The only thing different is the "ver=" parameter in the string, this this changes with every page load from what I can see downloaders/STD2_0635_EU_1_2016_2017/Downloader.exe?ver=636141306294665627&extension=.exe It looks like these are the maps I already have.
  4. I wonder if this will push up the residuals for the pre-facelift MK3?
  5. edit - Just seen you already have the car, so the order book being closed makes no difference
  6. I wouldnt worry about the "wheels" rusting. It's actually the hub of the brake disc not the wheel thats rusting, and it's very common. If cleaned off it would be back within a few months. I'm not sure about the tyre pressures. The car uses the ABS sensors to work out if one wheel is rotating at a different speed. It's worth checking the pressures next time you fill up though.
  7. I've managed to find an old brochure from October 2014, and the differences between SE and Elegance are pretty much the same as the latest model: Boot storage fixing Textile floor mat set Hatch Only - Rear armrest with 2 cupholders and load-through provision Estate Only - Variable boot floor 4 spoke leather MFSW with controls for radio and telephone ‘Amundsen’ touchscreen satellite navigation system Colour Maxi DOT trip computer Front assist Cruise control Intelligent light assistant with high beam control Telescopic front headlight washers 17" ‘Teron’ alloys Black or Beige ‘Alcantara’ and leather
  8. Take a look at the brochure - https://tools.skoda.co.uk/content/brochure/brochure_octavia.pdf - pages 21 to 24 show the difference between the specs. From what I can see the SE-L has: Boot storage fixing Textle floor mat set rear armrest (Hatch Only) 3 spoke leather MFSW with controls for radio and telephone Amundsen touchscreen satellite navigation system and integrated Wi-Fi Colour Maxi DOT trip computer Front assist Cruise Control Intelligent light assistant with high beam control Telescopic front headlight washers It also has different wheels and alcantara and leather interior. Edit: just seen your looking at used. This is the latest brochure so there will be some changes :(
  9. As anyone who has gloss black plastic B Pillars knows, you have to be very carefull or they will mark. On my Octavia VRS they were terrible, so I had settled on a plan to correct, then apply some Gyeon Rim I have left over from coating my wheels. I was given the heads up a local company (http://www.signature-group.co.uk/) had a 50% off sale on their range of detailing products, so I had a look what they have on offer (I've still not decided if I'm going to try a few things), When browsing their website I noticed they do Xpel Paint Protection Film... So I called in earlier in the week, and talked it through. They worked out a price, and did a test install on the car in order to create a template. The template was marked out on the film whilst on the car using a chalk pencil, then the film removed and digitised ready for the final film to be cut. At this stage I was shocked at how much the film covered the swirls, but I still gave the pillars a single stage polish to remove as much as possible before the final installation. The next day I went back, the film had been cut to the right shape using a plotter and was installed. Because the film was cut to shape off the car the cuts and corners are sharp and precise, and importantly no knife was used near the car. I don't have any before images unfortunately, but have some of the install and end result. I'm really happy with the outcome, and have said goodbye to swirly b-pillars for the next few years!
  10. Sounds like this may be the same car - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/408808-would-i-be-mad-to-consider-a-77k-mile-14-plate-vrs-tdi/
  11. That's a good call actually. The 230 has been more popular on here but there seems to be a bit of moaning about the lack of updates and the build time. Rather than have the same they have nipped it in the bud.... maybe it will reappear in the new year?
  12. I've got the CameraAlert PocketGPSWorld app and it's fairly good, but I don't like the idea of having to start it every time I get in the car, so I have loaded the POIs into my MIB2 Amundsen It works really well and gives an audible indication when approaching one of the programmed POIs I added a guide to it here - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/401902-installing-pocketgps-world-speed-cams-on-amundsen-mib2/?p=4639816
  13. Grey looks good, and isn't all that common at the minute but I have seen a few around and I think it suits the vRS. But... in a couple of years will it become as common as the Race Blue is now, or will it loose popularity after a couple of years and be dropped? I've yet to see a red vRS in the metal so to speak, but in the photos I've seen the colour really sets off the wheels. I'd try to see examples in both colours and make my choice based on that. Personally I'd go towards the Red. (No bias in this post, my vRS is Race Blue)
  14. If your buying standard spec the dealer may be able to find one in the country you can have delivered much quicker. My standard spec TDi hatch was moved from a dealer down south to my local dealer and I had it within 2 weeks of ordering.
  15. I think it should be OK - my CSV files had several thousand POIs in each
  16. I've been with Direct Line for a few years. Usually the renewal shows an increase but when I get a quote from them online its usually less than the previous year and they will match it. But this year I changed to my VRS just before the renweal, and it was a lot less than my old Insignia
  17. Agreed, although I'm the other way around. £500 deposit, £2k negative equity from my old Insignia so I'm hoping for slightly lower payments next time around.
  18. When I bought mine I got 0%/£1000 contribution and I was unsure if the 2.9%/£2000 contribution would have worked out better so I made a note of the prices for the various VRS models hoping to check if the offer came back on. Based on the the same 42 months / 500 cash deposit / 5000 miles the current offer is between £12 and £20 per month less than the 2.9%/£2000 offer. This is just done using the Skoda finance calculator rather than any specific offers worked out with the with your dealer
  19. I'm sure there is a few posts kicking around that suggests there have been supply issues with the 230 engine... Possibly in the build dates thread but I can't find them now.
  20. You could look at a VT but that would leave you with no equity, but may allow you to hand back earlier. Quite a few people on here have mentioned that Skoda do loyalty offers for existing customers. A quick google suggests this changes like the finance deals, but late last year was an extra £1000 on the Octavia. It may be worth asking about this?
  21. Take a look here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/401902-installing-pocketgps-world-speed-cams-on-amundsen-mib2/#entry4647701
  22. I think it depends on how old your VRS is. If it was built before 1st Jan 2016 it will have larger calipers so you will probably need an 18". If it's newer a 17" may fit over the smaller calipers but I'll leave it to someone with more knowledge to confirm.
