  1. +1 to your writeup. Although not the same engine and trim, but I think in general Your writeup summs up the Superb MK III excactly how it is. Enjoy the time left!!!
  2. Im a daily user of Apple CarPlay. And from my perspective all props for it. Flipfly brought out that You get more volume on BT. This is true. But let me clarify, for the ones of you who do not have Canton installed and use streaming (phone) for music this is not the best way to go. Why does Apple CarPlay limit the volume aspect of your sound? Simple, it does not let you (the user) overcook the volume (therfore lose quality). Overcooking means that the sound will not be pure anymore and most propably some part of your cars plastic interior will most definetly start doing wierd sounds. For me this would be an issue. + All the other aspects android auto / carplay brings into the play. But if you do have a Canton system then get a memory card, pump it up with high quality music and it would sound super good. I use both options. Day-to-day music comes from spotify. And my favourite songs come from a memory card. Two options, both viable. Choose what You like the most :).
  3. Hi! I have the 150ps ACT engine. The flywheel was replaced under warranty. But the funny thing is that I´m pretty sure, that the failure started at the point, when the car was 6 months old. Firstly, I would like to say, that the "flywheel failure" in My case did not disturb driving, in fact, it didint disturb me at all. How it all started? When the car was 6 months old I started hearing some metal clicking noises when the engine came from heavy stress enviroment (let´s say a 200km drive with hot weather). I stopped the car, and then I could hear a quiet noice of metal clicking from the engine bay. Firstly, it seemed that the climate compressor was doing the sound. Then I went to the dealers (2,5 years ago) , the dealer said it was fine. And it was fine, because the car worked normally, no clitches, only the sound was the factor of disturbance. And , it was impossible to hear the sound when the vehicle was moving. So, you could only hear it in case you had a long drive , you stopped the vehicle and left the engine running. Fast forward 2,5 years , every time I went to service I asked them to check the noise out. Service to me - Don´t worry, be happy, everythings cool. Me - OK. 2 months ago I had a long Eurotrip with my family. The car was fullstock (Car mass + 700kg). And that was the first time I heard that the metal clicking sound had become so strong, that it would out-line idle engine sounds. Went to the dealers again saying, guys, this is not cool anymore , PLEASE CHECK IT AGAIN. 2 weeks went by, OK , dude your flywheel has an anomaly. We need to replace it. 3 weeks without a car, then car back with a new flywheel all good. And , I still don´t know what the cause was and WHAT happened. End of story. So the lesson for you guys. Check this video out: My noise was pretty much the same, only the "cracking sound" was softer and more metal like. But, after I did some research, I found out that Flywheel failure (early stage) does not usually have a concrete sound that each failing flywheel does. What it does have is a sound pattern, If you can say that. The sound patters, that the VW in the video does is the same, as my car did. Unfortunately I can´t upload the video from car here, cause the file is too big and ATM I am too lazy to compress it smaller :). Either way, If any of you has a hunch that his/her car might have the same issue, PM me and I will send you the videos. Early stage sounds and late stage sounds and how they changed over time. To sum it up: 1. Despite the fact that I bought a brand new car I still need to be the Sherlock that encodes every odd sound that my car does. This really sucks TBH. I did the same when I was a driving a used car. So no change here. 2. Service USUALLY does not disclose what they did. Meaning, yes you will see the worklist, but you do not actually know what was done. 3. I hope this post helps some of you guys to prevent the same idiotic pattern happening to you. 4. Enjoy your S3, it actually is a REALLY good car. The fact that most services or dealers CAN´T handle themselves and what they are or supposed to be doing is another issue.
  4. So, my turn now. Superb S3, 1,4 TSI. 55k KM in. Flywheel failure (if anybody is interested I can post a video, of how it sounds). Got it replaced. Today, I will try the new Google Maps CarPlay feature. All in all, the car is still rolling good. The first three years have been OK I think, concerning that my car is part of the first shipment of S3-s sold in Estonia. Have had minor F***-ups. MF buttons on the wheel have failed, some minor challenges with vibration and noises in the "cabin". But all in all. The 55k ride economy wise has been great, at the moment the real consumption is around 6,8. Concerning that most of the mileage has been aquired in the city. Let´s see what the next 2 years will bring :). And last side not. I have pretty much every add-on that there is to add in the cabin, starting from all rubber thingys that you can add , ending with wireless charging add-ons and stuff like that. All in all, the car has been great :). If I can decrease the hours spent in the service (minor f*****-ups) for the next 2 years, the car will be perfect :).
  5. Some guy just stated that buying a TSI engine is a no-go. Coming from a V6 Audi at one point of time I had the same assumption. But the thing that has suprised me the most about my S3 is the engine. And suprise suprise, the engine 110kw 1.4 TSI. Accelerates enough, even in full capacity, does not eat the fuel. Essentially, I will never buy a TDI for city purposes ever again. And it´s fairly simple, I live in Estonia, meaning that ca 6 months from a year I will start driving with cold engine and head straight into slow traffic. Just calculate how much of a difference money wise it will make. I think its considerable. I am not saying that TDI is a bad engine, no, it´s not. But really do take a serious consideration what engine should be used where. And the second thing is that modern TSI-s have gone a long way when you take a look, where it all started. So, make a decent and complete analysis and then decide, what engine is the best for you. Simple fact is that they both are really good, it all depends on the environment you plan to use it in.   6. Concerning the matter the decision ultimately is up to you, which one do you like more? When it comes to the new S3 as previous guys have stated, the car has some issues. And for that you need a bit of luck, some of us have had a better experience, some of not the greatest one (MartiniB). One thing though that I would suggest for you to consider is that Superb is propably at its best form at the moment. Meaning that the car looks great and runs decent, keeping in my mind that this is a new model. Having a new model (does not matter who is the manufacturer of the car or product) on the other hand means that you will have problems, because the product is brand new. The second thing that came to my mind is that the S3 generally isin´t a bad car, but it has its issues and some stupid downsides. Pretty much all the possible flaws are here in these forums so search them and look through them. You can do the same at audizine. And the A6 has its own brand of flaws aswell. Yep, it is a really really good car. But general baseline is that the newer the Audi the more problems you have. I have had 3 Audis in my time. The 2007 A6, 2010 A6 and 2012 A6 prior to the S3. And the best of them was the 2007 version, I drove it to 400k km and it still ran super good. the 2010 and 2012 versions were not that good. Technical malfunctions and a a lot of electrical issues. Due to the fact that the Audi V6 TDI 3.0 is relatively old, then the technical issues were easily solvable. On the other hand the electrical issues were a true pain in the ass and cost a lot. Then started the time of the Superb S3. Which as all the previous cars has had its ups and downs during the first 2 years. But the car is great, the issues and solving them is more of a problem for the Estonian Skoda dealership than it is the cars fault. Meaning that the dealership is not ready to handle the car. And I personally dont think that the manufacturer is to blame, that local dealerships cant handle the problems. Bottom line choose what you like the most, both cars are super good. And both of them have their + and - sides. But , be sure that you know the + and - of the model you will choose. It will generally make it easier for you to handle the dealerships. Skoda is cheaper but I think you will get more from the money you put in the car. Because it really is a fullhouse in every term. Audi propably keeps its value better, has a better build quality and if you choose quattro then that definetly is something that is better. Hope this helps you choose :).
  7. The New Superb looks super good. That´s not the question. And when you compare the last generation A6 to the S3 , then in my opinion the S3 looks better. But that does not change the fact, that Audi´s build quality is far more superior, the same goes for BMW and all premiums. I have owned my "new" Superb for nearly two years. The car always looks good. But, tbh the build quality sucks. A lot of different rattles throughout the year. Every season has its special. And thats sad, overall the car is good and enjoyable, but still the rattle´s shouldnt be there. My previous car was a B6 A6 and even in the time when the car was already 7 years old there weren´t any really troubling rattles to deal with. But with Skoda its different and what is the worst part, is that the dealer does not know how to handle them.
  8. Hello! I´ve owned the S3 for roughly 1,5 years for now. The worst part about the car is definetly the build quality. At this point I call my car the four seasons, because every season one rattle leaves the RATTLE team and one rattle joins the team. In winter the center dash is the allstar of the team. In summer the air vents and safety belt plastic pieces rattle. And so on and so on. Pretty much every rattle that I have has gone through this topic atleast once. The main thing is that at the beginning there were numerous times when I drove the car to the dealer, but no success thus far. They can´t either understand it or they do not seem it is necessary to fix it. All in all a lot of wasted time through out the time I´ve owned this car. But for the client, even if you do not need to pay for the inspection it is still a waste of time. So I gave it up. I still like the car, but concerning the fact that I spent 30k and my dads 2 year older -8k VW Golf has a better build quality makes me a little bit sad. Don´t get me wrong, every car has its rattles, even the beloved Audi and BMW do, but for 30k you should have some of them, not season-various rattles. My suggestion to your guys is simple, turn up the volume and drive. Nobody will give you back the time it takes, and as long as I´ve read this topic then it becomes more and more clear, that Skoda services can´t really fix these problems.
  9. I have 2016 year Superb with the 7 speed DSG clutch. The funny thing about the gearbox is that the fact that you encounter the jerkiness or not is really dependant on the road you are driving. My car for example experiences jerkiness each and every day , but my friends car on the other hand (same configuration does not). The only difference being that my friend drives pretty much on the 0 degree angle (the time it takes to get the engine warm and tranmission fluids warm) and he never has had any shutters of sort. I go up a small rising every day when I drive home from work and there the jerkiness is. Meaning all in all the gearbox is supreme, when you get it warm it is really really good. But when cold some jerks and stuff will occur. Atm I dont pay any attention to it. Went to the service multiple times with this issue. First they thought I was out of my mind. Then they felt it themselves and finally (what I already knew unfortunately) they told me that there is no fix for this problem. The car is underwarranty and thats the end of the story until something brakes down finally. When comparing the current DSG gearbox with the older generation (2011 VW) then the only thing to say is that the newer one is super good. The older box had shutters, jerks and everything you can imagine, and sadly but truly it was normal (dealers opinion). So enjoy the drive, don´t overthink and don´t waste your time going to the dealers. Sadly not fixable at the moment :(.
  10. Whats funny is that how long it has taken. The S3 is not new anymore, and pretty much no good options to get rid of your factory fitted radio for a better option :).
  11. JCP. While the iPhone is connected to the car (in CarPlay mode) just double tap home button, close the app and open it in the CarPlay screen. Should start working. Atleast for me it sometimes crashes and needs restarting.
  12. I test drove both cars about 2 years ago, when I had the same option that is the subject of this topic. Test drove them both a lot. Meaning that I had both cars for 1 week. Both cars had 1.4 TSI 110kw engines. Truth be told, both of the cars had their ups and downs. The S3 generation Superb is and propably will remain the best model Skoda has ever built, atleast in my opinion. Good looking, rather cheap and supremely practical. When usual Audi fans are changing their Audi´s for new S3´s , Skoda has done something incredible. Which illuminates the example more-so is the fact that how much time it took to get the car? In Estonia I waited for 8 months to get my car. At the moment you will get your Kodiaq in 2-4 months. Passat on the other hand is the same in my opinion. They changed the body a little, but it still reminds a lot of the earlier version of the car. Practicality wise they are both pretty good. Superb is bigger and looks super good. Passat is usual VW in it´s goodness. What I will say is that interior quality and material quality for Passat is much more better. But atleast in Estonia you will pay 4-5k EUR more for the same car. So for me it pretty much was a no-brainer, take a car that looks superior and also gives me the practicality or pay so much more for a car that has few pro´s and much more con´s for me. I chose the Superb, and still to date I´m really satisfied with everything except material quality and new-body issues :).
  13. I havent had a very nasty experience cleaning the glossy surfaces with the Superb, but I did have a really really messy experience with my last car (A6). The story goes the same that as it always does: 1) Ton of research ; 2) Order stuff ; 3) Clean ; 4) Fail a bit ; 5) Get ultimately even worse result than usage usually makes. All in all what i´m trying to say is that I ruined the surface. Nothing disasterous but it affected my eye till the very end and bugged me. From that experience I learned that even the highest priced cars interior (21st century car) is usually really really soft and easy to mess up. At the new superb (1,5 years old) I changed strategy. I accepted the fact that little surface injuries will occur, due to the fact that even if I do my best, my lady and her nails + my 4 year daughter will still eventually "get the job done" . What I discovered is that if you keep the surfaces clean then you will not see minor surface injuries, although they are there. Escspecially the DSG area, which is really easy to damage, whatever you do. So bought a pack of micro-fiber clothing and every time I start driving the car just make a 10-20 sec sweep and it looks clean and beautiful. Atleast for me. What really sucks about the newer generation cars is that even when you change the used parts, which wouldnt be a bad plan when you really love the car´s new look. Ok, it costs , but I think for a precise and ideal like person it is usually worth it. The surfaces and materials are so easily damagable than even under normal use you will cause the damage, just a matter of time. So I actually would not invest in changing the interior, rather enjoy the ride and buy a new one after every 2-3 years if your desire for cleany and new-ness is a must. But, if you are the only user of the car and never-ever let anyone else into the cockpit, it prolly still can be done :). Meaning that 3-5 year old car can still look brand-new ;).
  14. I would suggest not using the umbrellas :). My statistics thus far have been: 4 uses per umbrella and it breaks down. Went to warranty and changed them and they will never be used again ;).
  15. Well Bud, it all depends how thorough you are! And in the end , its your money and whatever you do with it is your business. The same goes for my philosophy :).

  17. Well. Actually it will have a value. Imagine, if it would do: 1. Collect data automatically. Pretty much the only user action that would be needed is for the user to insert the price of the gas that he just refueled to the car. That´s the only thing that the cars infotainment system can´t know (in case when you dont have a internet connected car). If you do have a internet connected car, it will already know the fuel prize, so 100% non-user-related sustainability done! 2. The app makes the things that normal users do (i.e add fuel-up to your Fuelly, Spritmonitor or whatever) automatic. The ones that keep a log of the costs coming with a car know excactly what I mean hear. This will save you a lot of time. 3. Finally -> It is all in your pocket, not sh****ds of A4 cheque´s and stuff like that. Lets be honoust, when you like to keep control of your stuff (economy, maintenance and so on and so and so on) then an automatic app that could do let´s say 50% of the stuff from you (which is about the time you use to insert your fuel-up data) would be really really great. So I´m really looking forward to them developing the OneApp further, it has huge potential.

  19. Works very well with just Apple CarPlay. The app appears on the Apple CarPlay interface and is good. Used it with iPhone 7 Plus. Only thing bugging is that it does not start recording your drive itself. Meaning that everytime you start a new ride you need to open the app to make it record. Now if they can make it so, that the only thing the user needs to do, is to plugg in the phone then it would be perfect. Sidenote, it uses pretty much mobile data. Used it on a roadtrip in Germany. Prolly uploads all the stuff to some webservice.
  20. I have driven both. The 2.0 TDI and I currently have the 1.4 TSI 150 engine. My vote goes for the 1.4 engine. Economy wise I drive around 30 000 km a year and around 60% of the mileage is inside the city. I´ve owned the car for 1 year and 4 months. And economy wise my atm average consumption is 6,85l/100km, which is really really good and I doubt that I would get the same with the TDI engine due to the fact that I drive so much in city. Last week I made a trip to Scandinavia (Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany) with the total mileage around 3300km. The consumption for that trip was 5,3l/100km. The usual speed in highways was somewhere between 110 - 120 km/h (according to Skoda OneApp) So the engine is really good in all aspects. Never felt that I can´t overtake anyone even with a full car. If the engine stays the same and lasts for more than 5 years without a major hickup then I would say that´s even better than the legendary 171kw 3.0 engine that thus far is the best engine I´ve driven (concerning all aspects).   21. I dont know the precise details. But, the logic goes that after your engine is warm (oil) then it takes usually around 5 minutes and then the transmission fluids are at working temperature aswell. I can tell by some elements how the car changes gears whether its warm or not. When it gets warms, it changes perfectly on inclines and runs smoother. Atleast I can tell the difference.
  22. Upon comparing the DSG boxes that the new S3´s have to the ones that the old ones had, its a whole different level. The new DSG boxes (when transmission fluids are at working temperature) are perfect. There are some issues however when the fluids are not warm. But still, really really good automatic tranmission when you think of the first generation ones.
  23. Jaytipe perfectly normal. One thing that´s not a problem as well, that you will propably notice when it rises to an occasion is going up the hill with a cold engine. It kinda makes a jinx or you can also describe it as a drag. At first I thought that it´s a problem, when consulting with a local dealer they said that´s it´s perfectly normal. Although it does not feel normal. Just for information for all of you to avoid wasting time going to the dealers. It will propably be fixed in some upcoming software update.
  24. These are my choice. Only the gray (the same model) look better for the kind of combination I got (bodytype + color).
  25. Smudgers can you make some kind of screenshots. Atm I can´t understand what you mean. Can you choose Waze separately or you do smthing else?
