  2. OE fit at least on Octavia's and Superbs with MFD1 use 2 feeds for motion pulses which are abs L and R feeds so would expect that the MFD2 OE fit may use this as well. No comment on fooling the unit

  4. All Octavia RS's Petrol and Deisel have red calipers now, it was a model year change-so alls well- enjoy
  5. Sorry if I didnt make it clear? From above... I installed no drivers from the disc supplied as from the screen shots and install text files it appeared the drivers were for non xp OS's e.g 98. and 3. accept the XP drivers from auto prompts I suggest you.... Have a look at the XP screen shots on disc you have it shows what to expect to be prompted when you plug the interface as I mentined in above post TO MAKE IT ABSOLUTLY CLEAR................. NO I DIDN'T USE THE DRIVERS THAT CAME WITH THE USB INTERFACE -
  6. is it a quote in brackets for caution? ((!)) is there a picture and explanation in the hand book? For an octavia it means that Brake Fluid level is low or a brake fault and gives 3 beeps . Drive with caution check your manual. It also doubles up as a handbrake application warning
  7. Are rear speakers if fitted OK on same side? Try swapping front speakers over - although if it stops with engine off High picthed wine is normally Alternator interferance especially as it only happen with engine running, although would have thought it woulkd affect all channnels i.e left and right - as your car is a deisel theres is no ignition circuit to worry about.
  8. and in any colour as long as it was white IIRC
  9. The video on the move switch fitted in plug an play looms probably cuts the gala feed so if its open circuit your navi will not operate correctly when navigating. (Illegal to use, of course as allows watching by driver on the move)
  10. I am not using VAG COM Harware as you state above I am using a third party usb interface - the same as the one you posted you were using in a previous post. Didn't use any specific url for instructions other than those found by browsing the Briskoda pages where people have tried to help your install. I used the VAG COM TWIN USB Interface for release 409.1 @ Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: Download old versions for obsolete interfaces (Release4091us.exe) 1. Boot up laptop 2. plug in interface to usb port 3. accept the XP drivers from auto prompts (you will see the screen shots examples uin small cd with drivers you recieved with the lead. 5. set com port for interface as previously posted in other posts on subject. 6.take PC to car 7. plug interface lead in car 8. usb end plugged into laptop 9. ignition on 10. start vag com software 11. options page set com port to 1,2,3, or 4 to match that set in step 5 12. test with test button. 13. success message produced I would look around the vag com site re the XP emulator as I believe I read its not compatable IIRC vagcoms FAQ page 1 -Q1.4 & 1.8 @ Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: FAQ Page 1 I have no Knowlege re Fabia steering pumps and vag com coding. Remember that the shareware VAGCOM version is limited and adaption limited without a save function.
  11. Joey, I have just installed on my XP laptop the trial version you are using and by coincidence have the same 3rd Party usb interface. I installed no drivers from the disc supplied as from the screen shots and install text files it appeared the drivers were for non xp OS's e.g 98. After setting the Com port on the laptop to 2 from the 10 following the auto driver install and then in teh VAG com options screen setting the com port to 2 also, the test function worked Ok with car ignition on. Did I read in one of your post you have installed the VAG com sotware on a MAC? If so I seem to remember some info regarding compatability on the VAGCOM site I have tried the setup on my 3 cars 2 Octavias and a Superb and it worked fine reading and clearing fault codes. I did have one issue where the controller 46 failed to respond after a VAG com shareware warning appeared whilst leaving the adaption option IIRC and after attemping an adaption that was not allowed with the shareware version, however I have resolved the controller reponse issue this evening after a vehicle battery disconnect on 2 ocasions. Whilst unable to connect to controller 46 all others were fine. Moving on I expect to be buying the licenced version after more trial software analysis, as I am very impressed with the product so far .
  12. Agree with your diagnostics, its will probably need the Thermostat assembly changing. It come complete with the themostat (on later models that I believe yours is). The themostat cannot be changed its an integral part of the unit. On earlier Felicias it was possible to change the Thermostat. A plastic part fails in the housing causing the thermostat to fall apart. Its quite a common fault. I changed mine without draining system completley, just removed, installed new unit and topped up with correct VAG antifreeze (dont use any other the corrcet stuff is cheap from a Skoda dealer or VW dealer) No gasket just a o-ring to seal - I never changed and all was well if ordering probably best to get O ring as well. OE part is about
  13. Quite a common problem on the later 1.3 a plastic part fails in the thermostat housing causing the failure of themostat. To change on the later models its the housing with thermostat complete and is one unit there is no option of just changing the thermostat. Been down this route on my old Felicia - changed sensor - no joy then changed complete housing and all was solved. when the old unit was removed it was apparant by the bits loose in the housing. I removed my housing without draining then topped up when job was completed with correct VAG antifreeze John
  14. The warning will be due to the integral sensor in the coolant expansion tank (not a seperate part), its a common fault that happens during cold contitions. The good news is that the sensor and coolant expansion tank is easy to change and cheap to replace it costs about 8.50 + vat. I have had the problem on both my Octavia Rs last year and just recently my Octavia 1.8TDI. Both cases solved as detailed part no is IJ0 121 403B If ding your self top up with correct G18 coolant obtainable from your Skoda dealer. part is common to VW also so you can obtain from a VW dealer also
  15. Agree with other replies - most likely to be the battery yours if unchanged is about 5-6 years old they fail frequently at about 4-5 and normally show up their failings at the start of the winter months
  16. Thanks for your response appreciated, seen this mentioned on other VAG sites - however my gearchange has always been fine so I believe its another component failing - and although new oil may solve for a while I think it may be masking another problem.
  17. Thanks for your response, so the Octavia Mk1 RS has a dual mass flyweel? - I was unsure about - I believed it was - butit was mentioned to me that only diesels use this. If I end up changing the clutch I will provbably go down the route of changing fywheel , pressure plate and friction plate due to the effort of getting the box off in the first place. Thanks for the time estimate, thats good as I have a large garage and all the time I need as the car is not in daily use
  18. Question raised here so non - freedom members can comment - no reponse in ask a tech I have noticed that I must have a slight clutch drag issue with my late 2001 Octavia RS, all of a sudden after a drive and no previous clutch problems what so ever, selecting reverse gear gives a gear crunch and is harder than normal to deselect after engagement, came as a bit of surprise. Normal driving is unaffected. The bitting point is still high and the car has done about 53K respectful driving miles, First gear may also be slightly stiffer to select. I have bleed the clutch and the issue remains, is it possible of a slave or master cylinder fault? or is it more likely to be a clutch component failure? Is it worth changing the slave or master cylinder before resorting to a gearbox out job any one solved this issue by changing a master/slave cylinder on their Octavia? How difficult is it to change the clutch in a normal home workshop? What are the approx cost of OE parts involved. Standard non modified. Thanks
  19. Had renewed last year with Norton on my laptop as there was a special offer, not available this year and the renewal was a tad pricey. I have used AVG on my Desktop for a couple of years no problem - so have now jacked in Norton on my laptop and installed AVG .... reading this post made my mind up as my renewal was due.

  21. Yes, do a bit of a search you will find its well discussed likely to be pollen Filter area letting the water in, and a waterlogged corroded wire joint in the cabeling under the carpet . IIRC the joint can be remade and the problem solved after solving the leak, can be expensive if the cabelling is rotted elsewhere and a new loom is required IIRC. Common on Passats also
  22. Now confirmed for Tonights meet 1) Jonny5ive 2) Stopan1j - Confirmed 3) HongKongPhooey. Confirmed 4) Tigger (& maybe Bex) 5) Paxton 6) Shifty
  23. To my Knowledge all Skoda Cars are built to order for a customer so unless a dealer or other source has ordered one in the expectation of a buyer then in my opinion you will have to place an order. When an order is placed I believe there is a projected build date. Would have thought a supplying dealer would be able to find out the expected delivery lead times. However if the dealer is being used for info only and doesn't expect a sale dont suppose they will put too much effort into it.
  24. Mine went dim on my Oct RS, It seemed to be linked to the the dash lighting adjuster was not on max. Had headlights on at time of problem and had just set out for continent, thought the unit had packed up for a moment John
  25. Sounds like a good idea Jonny5ive 1) Jonny5ive 2) Stopan1j - Strong possibility I can make it, to be confirmed
