  1. Thanks fot that - looks like I need to get one for CZ - been driving there for many years and just had a plain paper license - luckily I have never been stoped in CZ just in France and Germany. In Germany I was escorted for a full vehicle check in a Police pound, As a matter of Interest my son was stopped 6 times last week returning to the UK from CZ by Police in Germany and Belgium (marked and un marked cars) - he was also stopped at calais port by customs but they did not search his car again as he mentioned he was stopped so many times. Wether it ws due to the World Cup or that he was travelling alone I dont Know - but beware of speed and whats in your car and that you have all vehicle documents i.e V5 and Insurance and Licence available.
  2. There are no tolls on the route to CZ via france, Holland, Belgium and Germany unless you get lost
  3. Ill second that - not seen that before
  4. To the best of my knowledge all Octavia Vrs are made at Vrchlabi - I saw them there last week. They do all sorts of specials with colours for different markets for example I saw mk 1 Octavia Rs 's loaded on a train without green calipers or a vrs badge just the interior seats exaust etc. The different plants have the capability to spray bodies for full assembly at one of the other 2 plants.
  5. Saw a new octavia in the new yellow when in CZ its a lot brighter - may look good on a fabia
  6. Saw a 2007 my yellow Ocatvia Rs with the red calipers in a Mlada boleslav Cz dealers last week in my opinion the red colouring is a backward step when seen in the flesh. Ther yellow is also very yellow  . I asked a Skoda CZ HQ offical the reason he said it was because red is seen as a sporting colour . Photo attached
  7. Just back from 2 weeks in cz 3200miles in total - confirm the new driving rules in cz - headlights must be on at all times. Dont be tempted to speed and stick to speed limits in towns and villages (30mph) Police will be hiding in villages and towns. Be careful were you park and dont use a disabled bay its a big no no. Traveling in cz is slow as there are not many motoways although from Mlada from Prague there is. Be careful of pot holes in roads and the motorways its quite normal to get big holes, there are many on the transit link around Prauge that you will be using. Alcohol driving limit is 0%. You need to buy a motorway sticker at the german / cz border there are booths selling them just as you clear the customs on the right - dont be tempted to not buy one - you will be picked up pretty quick there are frequent checks around Prauge Careful with give way points on roads ther are no road markings the signs show who have priority by the thickness of the road on the sign and remember to indicate you intension even if you are contiuing on the major road. On cz round abouts the rule on round abouts is to indicate at the exit you are leaving you do not indicate as you go round them. You must indicate when you overtake a push bike and indicate when you have done so, there are fines for not doing so. I personaly suggest travelling through the night thats what I do going out although return through the daytime. Malada Boleslav where the museum is is about an 1hr 1/2 from Prague, only Octavia's and Fabias are made at Mlada no Ovtavia rs's are made there. You will not be allowed to take any Photos in the factory - although you can in the museum. My average over many trips from Calias to Mlada is on average 10 1/2 -11 hrs with short stops for fuel and food. Petrol in cz is currently about 30kc a litre there is currently 40kc to the pound. Enjoy your trip
  8. Only the fixed ones I assume - its the mobuile speed traps that you need to worry about. Personally I would stick to the limits and although its nice to know were fixed units are just in case, the French have only just started getting fixed camera sites. The cameras on the motorways IIRC are just traps that are set up on the day. They tend to be well hidden and well planned. I wa picked up at 96mph with very light traffic on a motorway, straight perfect road as they are, very tempting to make progress. However in the distance I saw a bike with head lights on I pulled in to right lane as did all the cars following me - next thing Police BMW motorcycle pulls along side and indicated me to follow him - then back to a service station were other police are waiting to complete paperwork and hand over money for instant fine. Police were pleasant and advised me to be very carefull as there were traps all the way to Calias and I had at least 500 miles to do still! Re the 96mph that was the recorded speed by the trap - although thay have a chart to bring it down when you are booked - so the actual offence speed was probably -10% cant remember exact details.
  9. I would advise anyone to obey the limits in France they are getting pretty hot on speeders esecially those with foriegn plates. When driving over there just see what speed the french are doing you will notice its within a mile or two of the limit. The French will speed but only when tagged behind a faster driver who will be radar'd, thats my observations
  10. Stuart, I have a 2.8 tipronic and am very pleased with the economy and return consistantly at least 31mpg on long runs in shear quiet and smoothness. A Resent trip to South of France fully loaded and 4 occupants returned 31 - 32 on both outward, sightseeing and return trip at a steady 80 - 85 on the long hauls which I find excellent for an engine of this size. I guess it depends on what and how many miles you do in a car - Mine is for purly please and no work commutes so dont mind the extra premium in fuel costs. Agree deisels are more econonomic and have great pulling power however having driven both 130 and 140 Superbs (manuals) for some miles to me they do not match the rest of the cars refinment. I am looking at possibly trying a 2.5v6 although have not driven one as yet - and will be interested in what they drive like in comparison. However when I spoke to my dealer he steered me off the 2.5 unit, however I would like to check for myself.
  11. Welcome I am sure it will be fine, just a note it you want to use the Sat nav in France you will need a Fench disk or a major roads of western europe to guide you there, your car will be delivered with just a UK disk. Enjoy the South of France - I have just got back from a week there with my Superb as it happens ( la mole near st tropes airport) - the weather was great. Enjoy the trip & £50 in tolls each way :thumbdwn: and if I were you I would stick below 85 the French Police are getting a bit hot on Speeders you will notice most French dont go above 80 (130kph)
  12. Its a great unit does exactly what you need. The factory suplied navigation unit in the Superb is TMC equiped and is delivered with a UK TMC disk, diversion will be available and is transmitted for motorways and some major A road I understand. The advantage over non OE sysystems is that you get additional info in the maxidot display which is really useful, countdown to junction, road name and roundabout / left right bear left right and straight on symbols. I use mine a lot in Europe and think its great - not having full postcode selection is not an issue it will get you yards from where you need to be. It also displays and can route you to skoda dealerships. Sounds through main speakers as beens stated already.
  13. There are info can conections + and - on the Superb radio connector for the steering vol and channel change controls and maxi dot display for radio cd info, power speakers etc are fed as normal to the radio. my Superb has it and its a 2002, earlier ones probably used the 3LB and single remote lead as did early passats, this involved a different steering control unit and a 3 lead feed to dash panel.
  14. There is no schedule at the moment for Holland, its not been held in Holland before although it has been mentioned in previous years that one might be held there. People from the Holland Club do attend other International venues.
  15. They were fited as standard to the Comfort/Elegance IIRC as one of the MY (model change year). MY 2004 that happened around 2003 sometime IIRC and is not just an Edition 100 change. IIRC front pillar air bags were fitted around the same time.

  19. Have you contacted your fathers insurance company for a quote? If not it may be worth a try - they may use their information for their own quote but not release details to another. Other than that it might be worth asking on teh 5-ive 0 forum under the insurance section. There are motor insurance guys registered on the site who may offer advise. http://www.5ive-o.org/forum/portal.php The sites also a link from Briskoda
  20. Sorry, but there is no way he will be modifying his new car by swapping steering wheels.
