  1. I find it much better to leave our 190 TDI in Sport mode all the time. It's even better if you hold down the ESP button and switch off as much of the stability control gubbins as possible.
  2. I believe that the Anti Shudder Valve can do just that thing. I understand that it performs this role in some DPF regeneration scenarios. Hence the, incorrect to my mind, increasing use of the term 'Throttle Body' to describe it. Rather than being the digital, open / closed device which it was prior to the fitment of DPF's, it now performs in a more analog way, closing partially and inhibiting the intake of air during a regen.
  3. There's a reason I had mine mapped to c. 185 bhp..... I've also fitted 312 mm front, slotted and drilled discs with EBC Greenstuff pads. I don't think the ABS has activated once in 12k miles.
  4. 18 months and 12,000 miles, most of them driven pretty hard. A fair bit of wear, particularly on the outer shoulder. No sign of cracking or perishing.
  5. I have the ones that you don't want on my remapped 150 TDI 4x4. I fitted them about 18 month ago to replace the worn out Pilot Primacy 3 when I bought the car at 4 years old with 32k miles on it. I love the CrossClimate +. They're great on warm summer roads, brilliant in standing water and pretty good on snow and ice, although not up to a full winter tyre like the Dunlop Winter Sport D5 that we use on our Karoq. However, the stand-out thing for me is the way they've transformed the steering feel which makes the Yeti a joy to drive on my local backroads.
  6. Isn't that only the case on Euro 6 engines? The OP doesn't indicate the age of his car. Also, if its pre Euro 6, I'd want to know if it's had the Emissions 'fix' and if so, I'd suggest that he has that rolled back.
  7. If you're looking at a Tiguan, you might want to consider a Škoda Karoq. We had three of the previous model Tiguans in a row. When it came time to change, just under two years ago we test drove both a new Tiguan and a Karoq and preferred the Karoq. The bonus was that the Karoq was £8K cheaper than a similar spec. Tiguan.
  8. Unlikely as there never was a Kodiaq fitted with the Euro 5 140 PS TDI. As Kenny R said, it'll be the 140 kW / 190 PS, engine which just happens to be the one in our Karoq. I believe it'll happily remap to 220 / 230 PS.
  9. If I remember correctly, the last DETR / TRL research into the correlation between speed and accidents concluded that excessive speed was only a major causal factor in serious accidents in something between 6 - 7% of cases. If you feel like wading through the report... http://www.20splentyforuk.org.uk/UsefulReports/TRLREports/trl421SpeedAccidents.pdf
  10. Why would you drive on sidelights on single track roads? Aye, I might well switch to sidelights if I pull into a passing place at night to let an oncoming vehicle pass. However, I can't think of a circumstance, other than that, where I'd be on sidelights.
  11. I have no idea how you get that sort of mpg. If I thrash our 190 TDI, it gets about 32 mpg. As for AdBlue, I just nip down to the BP station where there's a pump that cuts off when the tanks full.
  12. That's a shame. I discussed cleaning the gauze on my Haldex when I had them service it on my Yeti last year. Wendy, the Service Manager who I believe works across Sighthill and Edinburgh these days went into the workshop in Dunfermline and discussed it with the Head Tech. She then came back and said they could do it and they charged me an extra £8.00 to remove the pump and clean the gauze. We've had really good experiences with West End, ever since Stuart, the DP loaned us a Yeti on studded winter tyres in the winter of 2010 when their only garage was in Broxburn. I know he's a complete petrol head and has an interesting collection of cars and bikes. He used to send cars to Star Performance to have them remapped prior to delivery to the customer.
  13. You have checked the state of the spring on the front strut, haven't you....?
  14. I take it that you mean Mountune. I think the nearest thing for VAG vehicles would be ABT. https://www.abt-sportsline.com/dealer-locator
  15. Possibly but I know that XDS+ was fitted to FWD VW cars such as the MK7 Golf GTI.
  16. Newer generations may, depending on model year, be equipped with XDS+ which also brakes the inside rear wheel. Our 2019 Karoq has this and I like the way that it enables the car to rotate when I'm pushing on. I've also enable XDS on my 2016 Yeti. Yetis didn't come with it enabled but it the software is in the ECU and can be accessed with VCDS. There are, in fact 3 settings, Off, Medium and Hard. I have the Yeti set to the maximum as I like the way it increases the turn in and holds a line in corners. However, if you find that yours is a bit keen, it may be that it's set to the maximum as well and you'd prefer it on the lower setting.
  17. Only 2015 onwards, Euro 6 Yetis use AdBlue. I wouldn't consider it to be in any way, "dreaded", however.
  18. I guess it depends when you were there. The first time we were there was early October '99 and it would probably have been bearable; although I think the Mercury Grand Marquis rental barge did have A/C. The summer of 2019, it was 48 deg C and the A/C in the Nissan Rogue blew nice and cold. We were glad of the aircon, even if the humidity was low. On the other hand, I once rode a motorcycle 1200 miles across I-70 in less than 24 hours in temperatures of 40 + deg F and humidity in the high 90's % and that was anything but pleasant.
  19. Our house is anything but a deep freeze. I like a nice 21-22 deg C all winter. However, this summer, in similar ambient temperatures, I've noticed that the output from the aircon in our 20 month old Karoq is anything but cold. It's certainly not on par with that from my 5 year old Yeti or my previous 12 year old Golf.
  20. I've just watched the video. It's hard to see the extent to which the car is actually understeering and oversteering without seeing your steering wheel inputs. Off the wall - your car should have XDS+ enabled. Is something corrupting the data that's fed to the ECU? I know that XDS+ works by nibbling at the inside front and rear wheel brakes when those wheels are unloaded in a corner. I don't know where that information originates from. Have you had the car scanned with VCDS to see if it's thrown any fault codes?
  21. I've got 225/50x17 CrossClimate + on my remapped, c. 185 bhp Yeti 4x4. I'm an ageing hooligan and often thrash it mercilessly. They work really well for me. I particularly like the steering feel that the rounded tread profile gives.
  22. 20 months and 15k miles on my wife's Karoq and we've got a judder under braking. As I suspected, the local, friendly, helpful Škoda dealership says "Ne". It's a 190 TDI and we didn't buy it not to use its performance; so the brakes get a hammering. I wonder if the problem is greater on DSG cars because drivers, including me, come to a stop and sit with their foot on the brake pedal.
  23. Start up and drive off immediately. Switch the MFD to the Oil Temperature setting. Drive the car progressively harder and once it hits an oil temperature of 90 deg C, drive it like you stole it.
  24. Audi A3 Mk2 (8P) Audi TT Mk2 (8J)[1] Audi Q3 Mk1 (8U) SEAT León Mk2 (1P) SEAT Toledo Mk3 (5P) SEAT Altea (5P) Škoda Octavia Mk2 (1Z) Škoda Yeti (5L) Volkswagen Touran (1T) Volkswagen Caddy Mk3 (2K) Volkswagen Golf Mk5 (1K) Volkswagen Golf Mk6 (5K) Volkswagen Jetta Mk5 (1K) Volkswagen Scirocco Mk3 (13) Volkswagen Jetta Mk6 (1K) Volkswagen Beetle (A5) (16) Volkswagen Eos (1F)
  25. If this is on your Yeti, then that's not on the MQB platform, J.R. It's the VAG A5 platform, if I remember correctly. MQB is the Kodiaq, Karoq, etc.
