  1. What size are your current discs? You might also need 18" wheels to fit 340mm discs. If your current discs aren't 312mm that's an easy upgrade with just the larger discs and caliper carriers from a Mk5 GTI / GT TDI Golf.
  2. TPI = Technical Product Information. A bit like an internal dealer memo that warns of defects and recalls. Creaking can come from worn strut top bearings.
  3. Following a quick Google, it appears that the CR engines are prone to tandem pump failure resulting in the same symptom of fuel in the oil.
  4. Since you appear to have a 2008 car, are you sure it's a CR and not a PD, engine code BMN? My old, 2008 Mk5 Golf 170 which I bought new in mid 2008 was a PD. If it is a PD then I'd suggest that the tandem pump might be leaking. The only other likely cause is leaky injectors, particularly at that mileage but since you say the car is running well....
  5. There's a tyre and exhaust place in our village - https://www.ladybanktyres.co.uk/index.php/exhausts There's a branch of this company just a few miles away - https://www.longlife.co.uk/ A custom exhaust company 20 minutes away - https://www.pipedynamics.co.uk/ There are also a few others, here in the Kingdom.
  6. I've had a licence for a year longer than you and I've felt the need for more power in everything I've ever driven and most of the things I've ridden. Although a friend's Lamborghini Gallardo is probably the car exception.....😁
  7. I'd describe it as reasonably rapid rather than scary. Switch off most of the traction control and it's better. I think a remap to c. 230 bhp and 330 lbs-ft would improve it even more. Did you know that you just undo one clip and the ECU pops out...? 😄
  8. One of the items on the agenda for the trip to the Western USA was to go back to Speed Week at Bonneville Salt Flats.
  9. I've been reviewing pics from our trip to the Western USA in 2019, this afternoon. I could do with getting out of the car into the desert blast furnace heat again, sometime soon.
  10. I'm afraid as they get older and rack up the miles, they stink. I think it's indicative of catalytic convertor failure. My BMN engined Golf was pretty bad at 12 years old and 90K ish miles. It was worse when the ambient temperate was in single figures. I think the only real cure is to replace the cat'.
  11. I suspect you're thinking of the Rough Road Package.
  12. No they're based in Kilmarnock. It's a mobile service. Lovely guy called Paul Winston. I had him remap my old Mk5 Golf GT Sport 170 TDI several years ago and my current Yeti about 15 months ago. I also recommended him to a friend who had him remap his Mk 7 Golf GT TDI 184 I had the Golf on the Star Performance dyno some time later as it wasn't running right. It made 200 bhp and 330 lbs-ft; slightly down on the Angel power claim and slightly up on the torque. I think it cost me £289 at the time.
  13. We're on our third car fitted with the AdBlue system - a 2016 Tiguan, a 2016 Yeti and a 2019 Karoq and we still have both of the latter two. I was a bit sceptical when we bought the Tiguan new in 2016 but in practice, I don't recognise any of these supposedly negative effects.
  14. Ya hoor Sir, you're a hooligan. Mind you, if you're used to a Tesla.... I'm guessing that the downpipe means a decat which begs the obvious question about MOT time...? Have you upgraded brakes and suspension as well? I've just put drilled Brembo discs with Brembo HP pads on madame's Karoq. Someone had managed to cook the originals by 15K miles. If I do remap the car, I think I'll be looking at the Darkside Developments kit to fit Porsche Boxster 4 pot Brembo calipers with the OEM size 312mm discs.

The degree of difference between the front and rear wheels depends on which Haldex unit is fitted in your car. Haldex 5 claims to pre-engage and therefore avoid any detectable slippage. I think Haldex 4 engages within a few degrees of wheel rotation at different speeds. The Off Road Button alters the ABS and Traction Control settings and enables the Hill Descent Control. The only thing I discovered about driving in snow is that the handrake switch disables the Haldex so that you can perform lovely pirouettes with the handbrake.
  16. Guess who my Yeti is now insured with...?
  17. If that's correct at the moment, I'm sure it won't be long before someone gets into the ECU. To date, I've had three cars remapped. 2000 Mk4 Golf GT TDI - 115 to 150 bhp. 2008 Mk5 Golf GT Sport TDI - 170 to 210 bhp. 2016 Yeti 150 TDI - 150 to 180 bhp. They've all performed significantly better after the remap. They've probably returned poorer fuel consumption because I didn't have them remapped not to use the extra power at almost every available opportunity. I've not experienced any mechanical failures due to having the cars remapped.
  18. That's not entirely correct. Licences issued from 1 January 1997 If you passed your car driving test on or after 1 January 1997 you can: drive a car or van up to 3,500kg maximum authorised mass (MAM) towing a trailer of up to 750kg MAM tow a trailer over 750kg MAM as long as the combined MAM of the trailer and towing vehicle is no more than 3,500kg https://www.gov.uk/towing-with-car
  19. Yes, it will throw a code. This is likely to invalidate the power train warranty. https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/18508/
  20. I've had the 150 TDI in my 2016 manual Yeti remapped to 180 / 185 bhp by Angel Tuning . It's not as quick as my wife's Karoq 190 TDI which is, as yet, bog standard. Of course, the headline power figure isn't really the point in a road going car. The area under the torque curve is more important. However, it might be possible to get a bit more from a 150. I remember that Darkside Developments had an Audi A4 150 TDI that made 190 from just a simple remap.
  21. I'm always interested in someone local to me who's done some mods. Who mapped it for you and when can I borrow if for a weekend...?
  22. I've used this stuff with good results, since the days it was marketed by Holts. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/293098335743?hash=item443e05adff:g:~G4AAOSwmNJc48rw
  23. I don't think Terraclean or CarbonClean would look at it. This was the state of my Golf 170 TDI at 9 years old and c. 75K hard driven miles.
  24. In the process, it'd be wise to clean the EGR and ASV. I know the feeling about getting older and more infirm. At 68, I gave up lying under cars and poking under bonnets a good few years ago.
  25. BMN you say...? Does it have the original inlet manifold with swirl flaps? If so, at that age it's most likely well and truly knackered. The flaps stick and break up. In extremis, they get sucked into the inlet with disastrous results. Also, the spindle bushes at each end of the manifold wear and leak oil and boost pressure. The cure is to replace the manifold with a BKD one, without the flaps. You can either source one from a breaker and get the required gasket and bolts or buy the complete kit from Darkside Developments. https://www.darksidedevelopments.co.uk/products/ppd170-used-bkd-aluminium-inlet-manifold-conversion-kit.html
