  1. If it helps, Mk1 Fabia vRS wheel specs were: 205/45R16 82V 6.5Jx16 ET45 5x100
  2. I'd suggest asking them how they get round TD1 codes. I've heard the same thing that they can now avoid the ECU throwing codes from other tuners, including the guy who mapped my Golf and my Yeti but I'm not entirely convinced. https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/18508/
  3. You need to find someone who has VCDS and can scan the car for faults. It might be worth starting here - https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/2646/ God luck....
  4. I just fitted one to my Yeti last week. Without doing any back to back tests in similar conditions, I think the oil temperature is coming up a bit more quickly. I bought it on eBay from these folks in Latvia. It arrived 5 days after purchase. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/viesturs_autoparts/m.html?item=113730511503&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562 However, I see that Superskoda are doing one for the lower grill so that might be next.
  5. Hmmm.....were we separated at birth? Actually that reminds me of spending a weekend in the company of Chay Blyth, (remember him, round the World solo sailor and Altantic rower and a Hawick man...?) and Rebecca Stevens, the first British woman to climb Everest and a presenter of Tomorrow's World, in 1993. I'll leave you to guess which one was the breenger (I thought about the spelling....) and and which one was the planner?
  6. Hello neebs. What is it that you think about?
  7. 215/60x17 Dunlop D5 Winter Sport on Audi Q3 alloys.

I've had CrossClimate+ on my Yeti since early this year. I've not driven on snow and ice with them yet but in all other conditions, they've been brilliant and I like to make good progress.

I'm guessing this is a FWD model. Tall car, weight transfer, cold tyres, cold road and the way that the 1.5 TSI / DSG combo delivers power = wheelspin, I'm afraid. I've lost count of the times I've read people complaining about how prone this car is to spinning up the front wheels.
  10. Snap. With a fully loaded 2016 Yeti 150 SE L Drive, albeit a manual one and a 2019 Karoq SE L 190 TDI in the drive, that's pretty much how I'd have described the differences between the two. If I'd add one word to describe the difference, it would be refinement. Having said that, the Yeti is a quirky, compact crossover while the Karoq is a main stream VAG, mid-sized SUV; with everything that implies as the difference between them. Likewise the buying experience. We wandered into the showroom with a view to changing my wife's 2016 Tiguan 184 TDI. We were looking for a 190 TDI Karoq and they just happened to have one in stock with heated leather, heated steering wheel with paddles, heated windscreen, front Isofix and a spare wheel. It's in white, not a colour we'd have chosen but it was a rare car and the dealership did it at a good price. I'v now got the Karoq on the 17" Audi alloys and Dunlop D5 Winter Sport that I previously had fitted to the Tiguan, rather than the 17" wheels with Bridgestone Turanzas that it came with. I've also got a set of 16's that I previously used on three Tiguans but I've found 17's to offer the best ride, handling and steering compromise.
  11. Without doing any research, I suspect that just like my wife's 2019 Karoq 190 TDI SE L, yours will have the 7 speed DSG transmission.
  12. I got a new Citroën BX TZD Turbo estate in 1990. I thrashed it mercilessly (it only had 90 bhp and 133 lbs-ft) for over 8 years and 238K miles until I managed to write it off in a low speed shunt. It was still on the original turbo, the head had never been lifted and it was still going strong at that point. I drove the MK4 Golf GT TDI that I bought new in 2000 the same way for 8 years and albeit only 120k miles. Similarly, the Mk5 I bought new in 2008 and had remapped to 210 bhp and 330 lbs-ft, 5 years later and sold earlier this year at 90+K miles. It was replaced by a Yeti which now has c. 185 bhp. I'll continue to make use of all the performance that it has and more if I get round to adding another 40 bhp or so to it, running it on Shell V Power and thrashing it once the oil temperature is up. Make of that what you will....
  13. I was responding to the quesion in Onedesi's post - "I wonder if anyone remapped the 150PS ones,....?"
  14. Yes, They're good for 180 - 185 bhp and perhaps more importantly, c. 400 Nm. I can comfirm it makes a big difference to the way the car drives.
  15. It's a shame that Škoda got stuck at the 170 PS TDI engine in the Yeti. VW went on to fit 177 PS and then 184 PS Euro 6 engines in the Mk1 Tiguan. My wife had both and they were a good improvement over the earlier engine. I'm pretty sure that my 2016 150 TDI, is fundamentally the same engine as the 184 PS and now 190 PS engines, albeit with a smaller turbo. Those engines are both good for c. 230 bhp with just a remap.
  16. Here in Scotland.
  17. I'm reminded that was the year we borrowed a Yeti for a test drive from our friendly, local, Škoda dealer. It was fitted with studded winter tyres. I drove it around some of my favourite local back roads that were covered in several inches of sheet ice. At one point, I passed a gaggle of Land Rovers and other serious 4x4's parked on the verge at the bottom of a slight hill. The Yeti sailed up the hill on the sheet ice; much to the obvious amazement of the shooting party standing in the field next to the road.
  18. If I remember correctly, it was the winter of 2010, the one where my wife's BMW 123d and my Golf were snowed in for three weeks, outside our house, within a couple of hundred yards of the Forth estuary. A friend from the frozen North, Insch in Aberdeenshire, turned up in a Polo with winter tyres on the front and ordinary rubber on the rear. He gave me a go in it and it was a hoot going round snow covered roundabouts, hanging the tail out at 20 mph. I wouldn't have particularly wanted to drive it down from Aberdeen as he did in those conditions but it was fun at the time. It was that winter that set me back on course for us running at least one AWD car - my wife chopped in her BMW for a Tiguan - and fitting winter tyres.
  19. All generalisations, including this one, are dangerous.
  20. Which drivers are better able to handle understeer than oversteer? I'd much rather be hanging the tail out and correcting and holding the slide than going head first off the road in terminal understeer. I remember that Costco used to trot out that old chestnut in the days when I used to go in to have a pair of new Michelins fitted to my Citroën BX. They would only agree to fit them to the rear. I'd promptly go home and swap the wheels front to rear.
  21. I came out of the hospital in St Andrews this morning, unlocked the Yeti, got in and put the key in the ignition. A moment later, the doors all locked and all four windows dropped. I had to remove the key, reinsert it and then switch on the ignition to get the windows to respond to the switches and raise themselves. Proximity to Leuchars, perhaps....?
  22. Yes, they should fit. I suspect they're also 7J rims.
  23. Schtum replied to gigolo456's topic in Skoda Karoq
15" wheels won't fit over the 312mm discs on the front of your car, anyway. It's usually possible to squeeze 16" ones over brakes of that size with the occasional balance weight / brake caliper interface.
  24. Schtum replied to gigolo456's topic in Skoda Karoq
The 4x4 models have fully independent multi link rear suspension whereas the FWD ones have trailing arms and a torsion beam. Having driven both, I didn't notice a huge difference in the ride quality. However, I wouldn't consider anything other than a 4x4 model. I've seen countless posts from owners of FWD models complaining of wheelspin when taking off raplidly. I think that most FWD tall cars are plain daft. Weight transfer when taking off sharply will inevitably result in wheelspin. Also, if you're coming from a Golf R, I'd have thought you would be disappointed in the performance. Maybe best to buy a 190 and have it remapped.
  25. Precisely. At c. 5' 9" and 72 kg (yeah, I know mixed units....) I'm by no means a big guy. However, that's exactly how I feel. I could also do with a bit extra side bolster support as I hurtle round corners courtesy of 185 bhp and the inside front brake nipping the wheel courtesy of XDS.
