What would owners replace their superb with?
Alan_P replied to Whenwillilearn's topic in Skoda Superb Mk III (2015 - 2023)
I previously had an A6 (C7) and the soundproofing, materials used, fit and finish were noticeably better than the Superb... I would have been surprised if this wasn’t the case. IMHO the Superb is comparable to the Passat/Golf etc. (obviously), mid-range Volvos and a little better than Fords (current gen) and Vauxhalls (all gen). Similar build quality to most Japanese marques of a similar price, but better materials used and noticeably better than equivalent French models. All generalizations of course There are some exceptions obviously such as some of the plastics Merc seem to use at the moment, but if people genuinely believe prestige models of a similar size to the Superb offer the same build/finish then we will have to agree to differ. No argument about value for money though. -
Add in wireless phone charging pad ?
Alan_P replied to Mr Grump's topic in Skoda Superb Mk III (2015 - 2023)
It depends on the phone, but most models default to the wireless charger so the cable would work for data only. It won’t use both so either way it’s a similar charge time. You would also need to connect the wireless charger to a USB socket adapter (permanent live in the mk3 Superb). I suppose this would let you charge while the ignition is off, but I’m not a fan of leaving anything running unchecked… or leaving the phone in the car. What would you want this setup for? -
Newbie Electronic Parking Brake Query
Alan_P replied to Wheelnut's topic in Skoda Superb Mk III (2015 - 2023)
It sounds like you have a much more serious issue as it’s never made me stall the car. I also don’t seem to have an issue switching the system off/on. When it was happening with me regularly, I switched auto-hold off several times and manually used the EPB at lights etc… same problem. Does anyone know if auto-hold just keeps hydraulic pressure applied or if it switches to the EPB motors? -
Add in wireless phone charging pad ?

Unfortunately not… the wireless charger can’t provide a data link. Android Auto rolled out wireless mode recently, but for Pixel and last generation Nexus models only. It’s only supported on a limited amount of aftermarket head units too… nothing OEM yet. Even if it has a wider launch you will also need a wifi capable headunit as Bluetooth doesn’t have enough throughput. I use a little magnetic dock. Charging and Android Auto without wearing out the port on the phone and the lid/cover closes when not in use. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Magnetic-USB-Type-C-Connector-Charging-Station-Dock-For-Xiaomi-5-6-Onelus-2-3-5/32836216627.html -
Now that has been polished within an inch of its life… very nice

Newbie Electronic Parking Brake Query
Alan_P replied to Wheelnut's topic in Skoda Superb Mk III (2015 - 2023)
If that reply was for me, I can’t decipher it 1. I should contact a Skoda main dealer and shouldn’t be asking Wheelnut for info? 2. Asking Wheelnut for info is telling Skoda how to do their job? 3. You were giving me the typical layout of a service desk? 3. Reply wasn’t for me and I should mind my own business You have a very different experience with dealerships if you feel the are up to date and forthcoming with software update info -
Newbie Electronic Parking Brake Query

Very interesting. I felt it return for the first time in ages in a car park recently… a few double taps of the brake seemed to clear it. Do you have any info on the software update? Maybe a code or description on the invoice? -
That image looks familiar I would recommend getting the tracking done on another (recently calibrated) Hunter setup. Even if the camber is out due to damage or poorly fitted suspension/subframe bolts you will have a much better argument with independent confirmation. Fingers crossed it’s just their setup that’s not been calibrated in years… might be why they only like to provide mono printouts? Kwik Fit gets a hard time, but they love tracking because it’s all margin and most centres have live video of the work being done. Their Hunter calibration doesn’t come out of the workshop budget so managers are happy to have it done.

Finally had a chance to try the 12v socket fuse drop trick today and can confirm it still doesn’t work (MY17). The position doesn’t even have a socket (see image) so keep my suggestion in the hat. Configurable 12v socket(s) or ignition fed by default.
-
I only gave it a quick test as other said it didn’t work, but maybe it’s timed too. I will give it another try.
-
It doesn’t work on the Superb… have you tried it?
-
In previous models and some other VW group cars, but not in the mk3 Superb unfortunately… unless you know something different?
-
6. Configurable 12v accessory sockets… or at least make them switch off with the ignition by default. Easy to add a toggle in the settings so you wouldn’t even need a luxurious physical switch 7. A good quality front/rear dash cam option. I think it’s unpredictable legislation that stops us getting this, but I would pay a premium to have an OEM (warranty safe) setup.

Yup, it’s loom tape… more cloth than plastic.
-
Nice work Tesa tape for the handle recess… works well for vibrating speaker grills and other squeaky interior bits too. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cloth-Tape-TESA-19mm-15meters/dp/B01554NGG0/

Not sure I understand Sad555… you want MChris to change his car? I would be inclined to try OEM ones (same design btw) before that It might be a bad mould with some excess rubber (in the gutter) stopping the frame sitting flush. Also check how the dimensions line up to the original… might need a trim.

It pops up with a notification and reads them out. Some strange looks from passengers when you have questionable group titles and content Option for voice reply too… not sure what options you get when stationary. https://play.google.com/store/apps/collection/promotion_3001303_android_auto_all?hl=en_GB

Piano Black trim and scratches

Autoglym SRP (or similar) works well to remove the scratches, but it’s crucial you never use a dry microfibre or any other dry cloth when cleaning in the future. Mopping up wet wipe residue won’t get a microfibre wet enough IMHO. A lint free cotton cloth (old tea towel) with lots of Windolene (mild glass cleaner with vinegar) cleans without damage on mine -
Wash/clean the scratch then run water over it… if it disappears when wet then it’s just the top coat and a DIY candidate. Remember to use a decent sealant once buffed out

Might actually be worth trying copies then? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4pcs-lot-56mm-Black-silver-Car-Wheel-Hub-Caps-Center-Cover-For-Skoda-Octavia-Fabia-Superb/32840847185.html

I missed your reply. There will be a big difference with a specific design and properly bonded insert from the manufacturer (extensive testing) and a retrofit. What if your lining separates/bunches and causes a hot spot? What if the adhesive reacts with the foam and/or tyre?
