Better value than a Golf R yes but those seats are awful as standard whether in the Grey or Blue car.

So if you want to go slower and take longer to stop than a Golf R buy a Cupra Ateca. Only 340bhp in the Superb it goes quicker with the hatch body style and nearly 360bhp for sure.

Agree the quality of the interior in the T-Roc R is shockingly bad and an embarrassment for VW compared to the quality of the Golf R hatch or estate.

Time to revive this thread specially created for Briskoda's best sipper of petrol and now diesel. Having given myself the challenge of extracting 1,000 miles from a 66 litre of oil from the black pump made a good start with 107 miles in the 150PS Superb now having covered 6,360 miles and the target figure I'm aiming for is 7,253 which requires averaging 70mpg over 14.5 gallons which would give 1,015 miles or some 1,600km. Another 3 commutes then it will be parked up for 3 weeks so may take until early December to achieve the target distance. Regular weekly updates to come to see how I get on. Can't be that difficult in a 1,500kg large 5 seat car surely.

My Feb 2020 Superb SEL came with the removable LED boot torch. Very handy.

Agree the Peugeot 208 e is the only EV that I would buy at the moment for the commute having seen various video's and if we both retired then the Enyaq would be ideal. We need to get back on topic so set up my Canton in the SEL last night and it was awesome to turn up the volume tonight and appreciate the 12 speakers and 610W output. Just perfect for music lovers on a budget. Missed it when I sold my 2016 Superb SE.

Spent some time last night adjusting different settings on the SEL and came up with a good compromise for the 12 speaker Canton with the 610W output which really paid off tonight listening to Freddie and the Queen boys with The Show Must Go On with the volume turned up it was mega compared to the basic 8 speaker system that was in the Sportline Plus. So much volume, clarity and bass giving the vocals so much soul. 107 miles driven with 895 miles left in the tank so already reached the mythical for a diesel anyway 1,002 miles range for the 66 litre tank. This going to be a very comfortable and cheap large car to run me thinks.

Traded in to the local Skoda dealer in Leicester with full disclosure of the modifications plus the printout from the mapper if any issues arise (I doubt it). Yeah when I push the throttle I have to keep checking I haven't left the electronic parking brake on by mistake LOL. One thing that annoys me is that the gearbox will change down from 7th at 60mph (1,300rpm) when going uphill but will stay in 7th on the flat or going downhill but that may be corrected with a stage 1 map in the spring filling in the small window in the torque curve or I may have to drive it faster to stay in 7th. The petrol 363PS car would easily go uphill in 7th at just 1,200rpm or 39mph due to having 514nm at 2,800rpm. Ironic that my petrol car was torquier than this diesel but a map would lift it from say 246lb/ft to around 315lb/ft so watch this space next year to see how I proceed.

Yeah early days so far first time I've had them on any car but certainly grippy enough pushing round corners and roundabouts but roads have been dry so far and no full on standing start efforts so but quieter than the Bridgestones and Michelins I had on the Sportline.

Correct Colin. Thinking about working part time in 5 years so started saving to have enough to live off working 120 hours per month (no more nights) instead of my current 60 hours per week which I've been doing for 29 years already.

After just 2 days and just over 100 miles driven already prefer the standard ride height with 18" alloys and in my case Continental 235/45R18 tyres. Much more comfortable and less thumping than the 235/40R19 Bridgestone tyres on 19" Vega alloys with the non DCC Sportline 15mm lower and stiffer dampers/spring set up. This on a 2.0 TDi 150PS DSG SEL hatch for comparison.

No 2.0TDi 150PS 360NM seems to be good so far with 1,002 mile range. Fitted boot rubber mat, rubber rear carpet protector and rear tablet holder today.

Worked with a chap from Birmingham last night who has a BMW 520D and he was checking out the new Superb and was very impressed with everything about is said it must have cost at least £26,000 used given the quality and specification. Very impressed by the rear seat legroom and boot size. He was convinced it was a saloon because it came without the rear wiper but they must have Rain X the glass at the dealer as the overnight dew simply ran off all the glass as soon as I started driving. Only got 65mpg on the uphill drive home with use of ACC on the motorway but range has crept upto 960 miles now as expected. The Matrix LED lights are so good 2 other motorists flashed me on a country road thinking I must have high beam on yet they are fully adaptive of course. He even said if I removed the large S K O D A lettering across the back it would look just like the latest Audi A6.

I can't quite believe how far Skoda have come with borrowing bits from the VW and Audi parts bin in just 6 years since my 2014 FL Mk2 Superb Elegance with the 140PS diesel and 6 speed manual box it seemed dead posh when I bought used a few months old for around £17,500 IIRC. Now I have 5 choices for the virtual dash (chosen view 1 for my current obsession with economy), a reversing camera, Canton sound with a neat integrated subwoofer in the side of the boot and a quiet diesel with quiet Continental tyres which despite probably being of the Eco variety still offer huge grip throwing around roundabouts thanks to the generous 235 section and 45 profile. Scrolling rear indicators make it feel very VW/Audi also and the latest headlight technology should prove invaluable during the next 5 dark months. Best I managed in the 2014 car was 66mpg to Bicester and about 625 mile range from a 119gm/km diesel. According to the info the dealer gave me this 2020 version has 103gm/km not the 101 stated in the advert but is telling me after just one commute I can expect to see a fuel garage after 940 miles which is insane. Shame it will be parked up for 3 weeks from Tuesday morning during my holiday.

Checking everything was present in my new SEL Superb including the 2 brollies in the front doors, all the spare wheel kit including the locking wheel nut and we noticed someone had pinched the green ice scraper from the fuel flap slot so the saleman did what they all do and suggested I keep the one from my old Sportline Plus as a momento. So if you buy it make sure they pinch one from another car first.

My Feb 2020 Superb SEL has white L shaped DRL which change to L shaped orange indicators plus noticed the rear turn indicators scroll like a VW or Audi which is cool. Think the SEL has the Matrix LED headlights judging by the number of LED bulbs I can see.The rear lights are very sexy at night to compared to my Mar 2019 Sportline Plus.

Better FUEL ECONOMY of course. The only reason to buy a diesel surely. Not planning on towing a caravan.....ever.

Just the 150PS diesel with the 7speed DSG but the experts on Brisky tell me it's better than the 190PS diesel.

First commute was heading for nearly 80mpg then road near work was closed for the weekend (no prior warning as usual) so ended up with a 6 mile diversion which cost me an extra 10 minutes driving and only managed 75.5mpg on the extended 33 mile journey.

My licence was in serious danger every time I drove the 272. Needed something to slow me down and having driven the wife's compact SUV knew I wasn't ready for the roly poly handling until I hit 70 years old and can't see anyone so best compromise was a loaded diesel Superb which this car ticks all the boxes. Bit early but first commute tonight was 75mpg so not too shabby and range is now an indicated 940 miles but sure this will improve as I get used to the new gear ratios.

Sainsbury's paid £1.099 per litre George. Thanks enjoying it more than I expected. If anyone is wondering whether to spend £470 extra on the virtual dash on a new car deffo go for it well worth it IMHO.
