  1. Personally I think any car that is classed as a right off - no matter what level needs to have a IVA check. If their so worries about people building their own cars the same should be done for those who repair them. Unfortunately that does mean examples like a dent in the boot is a bit extreme but it would catch cars like in the OP.
  2. I would give the EGR valve a really good clean, if it's never been done and on 150k it would be crying for a little TLC. do the intercooler at the same time Costs nothing but time
  3. I have powerflex ones and while they were alot easier to fit than the cupra ones (fitted to my mothers old fabia) they are very noisey. Last year I stripped them down and cleaned them up, reapplied new grease and all was fine for about 3 months. These days, going over a speed bump you can hear them over the radio. :(
  4. OK Last update. It was the wire. I was able to get my farther to sort out a new section of wire with heat sleeving. Thanks for the comments and links.
  5. Just a quick update. I've been away for a few days in another car and every time since that incident I've tested the car, it's started fine. I hope to have a good look at the wiring (with the battery removed). I'll try and keep you all updated.
  6. yeah very good point. unfortunately I'm away this weekend with the family so I hope to get under my car next week some time. I'll keep you all updated.
  7. So green flag came out for a home start today and they checked the wiring and couldn't find an issue. After hitting the starter motor a fair few times the car jumped into life. He recommend replacing the motor due to the solenoid sticking. Would people agree? I see a Bosch one from autotrader is £110.
  8. Can it be intermittent? I'll check this tomorrow as it's raining sideways at the moment. Many thanks for the quick replies.
  9. Hello, I've had a bit of an ordeal with my car tonight. I came to it around 16:00 and the car fails to start. Key turn, lights come up. coil pack light goes out (as normal), you hear the fuel pump pressurise but nothing. No starter motor attempt - nothing. Green flag messed me about and didn't attend for over 4 hours. I tried it every hour and on the 4th hour the car started, no cough no struggle - it's was fine. I left it running for a few minutes, turned off the engine and started it again fine. After I got home I turn off the engine and tried to start it. Nothing! I pulled the other halves car along sid e(a 1.4 TDI Fabi MK2 - same battery) and hooked it up for 5 minutes. still nothing, so it's not my battery. Does anyone have an idea what it could be?
  10. Yeah I've checked the scuttle but the aircon wasn't checked. I'll give that a look over this weekend Thanks,
  11. Hello, My missus has a 08 1.4 TDi mk2 Fabia. Yesterday morning I noticed her windows had fogged up after it had stopped raining (while mine was fine - a mk1 vrs). Does the MK2 suffer from similar rear door leaks like the MK1 did? I haven't found anywhere damp yet. Thanks, Paul
  12. DubDub - Can you put the engine cover back on?
  13. Many thanks for the picture. Ackadappa - does yours make a almost grinding noise when locking and unlocking?
  14. Hi, Recently I noticed myy passenger side isn't locking when I secure the central locking. I had to push down the internal door pin to get it moving. When I tried again the door would lock but I'm hearing the solenoid inside making a bit of noise. Has anyone come across this issue before and what is the best course of action for repair? Simple grease up or a new unit? I haven't had time to remove the panel and inspect it so i don't know if the unit is servicable. Any advise would be much appreciated
  15. I currently run 215/40/17 on the occy spiders and have no issues. That being said the car isn't lowered.
  16. Any issues with the motor that you've found? Besides the usual leaking rear doors and front consoles mines been OK (except recently when I've found my steering rack has a small leak on it).
  17. I'm assuming it's a complete new steering rack thats required?
  18. I seem to have a small leak on my passenger side rack. The gaiter is full of steering fluid and has started dripping on my driveway in small amounts. I've seen gaiter replacements but I suspect this would just mask to on going of issue of why the rack is leaking it's fluid. Does anyone know how much parts and labour would be for a swap out? I haven't got a clue about prices and I'm guess this can't be done on the drive way on axle stands? Thanks.
  19. I don't seem to remember a sensor hole on my vRS when I had it off last year.
  20. try eBay - pretty sure they cost me about £10-12 each.
  21. Hello, While sorting out another issue (console bushes) we found power steering fluid had started to leak from the passenger side gaiter. I've drained the fluid from the gaiter and topped up the reservoir (who ever designed this car needs to be shot!). If you are unaware, the reservoir is under the battery, which needs the airbox taken out first! So the reservoir was topped up with a fluid with built in sealent. However I'm not counting this as resolved by any means. If anything I've just bought some more time. Does anyone know how much a new rack and fitting would be? Ideally around the manchester area.
