  1. That's good. Make sure that they solve the problem, not just replace bits. I'm thinking of that window judder.
  2. As someone who's not a far-left nutter or a Tesla owner, this has been enormously entertaining, but I do have sympathy for Tesla owners who have fallen foul of the NPC's latest update. The same people doing everything they can to get people to drive EVs to save the planet from pollution, have been fire-bombing Tesla dealerships because Elon Musk stopped them appropriating US taxpayer money for nefarious purposes. 😄 Typically, their handlers have not criticised them. (It was the same with the BLM violence.)
  3. Well this is a red flag. "I'll look into it." is a tried and tested way of fobbing off awkward questions until the buying decision is irreversible. If possible I would stall the buying process and when the dealer contacts you to proceed, tell them you are looking into buying the car. Their response to your "I'm looking into it." should guide how you respond to their "I'm looking into it.". And yes, for some reasons Octavia lights do seem prone to water ingress on rear lights. I had the problem on my car, a 2019 MK3.5.
  4. Has it had a new turbo? Petrol turbos last well if serviced correctly, but you're getting into the mileage territory where a turbo failure would not be unexpected. I'm guessing you also have a GPF (the petrol equivalent of a DPF) on that vehicle. I don't know how long they last or what happens if they fail or how much they cost to sort out if they fail. Early failure is usually caused by damage from another failure, AFAIK. If it runs smoothly, drives well, and the price is right, then you might have a bargain. A lot of the things that could be expected to go wrong or wear out will likely have been repaired/replaced. 193Km in 7 years is quite a reliability endorsement in itself.
  5. Not sure how using a "trusted indie" means you go to VAG when you need something important doing. Revealed preference is always more accurate than expressed preference. By all means go to VAG, but you might like to revisit your thoughts on whether you trust the indie you use. For the record, my trusted indie told me to go to a gearbox specialist for my Octavia's DQ381 service.
  6. I think you need to pick your engine, gearbox and body combination before trying to get too specific on common faults. They each have strengths, features and issues peculiar to them. One issue common across the range of the MK3, is the silica bag in the coolant reservoir that can split and cause issues requiring a difficult and expensive cleaning process.
  7. A good rule of thumb is not to let a "could" be leveraged into a £1500 bill that doesn't fix the problem. This, a 1000 times this. ☝ You cannot solve a problem you do not fully understand. But you can milk an unwary customer of a lot of money by iteratively trying to fix a problem you don't understand. As George says, get a proper diagnosis of the problem.
  8. Perhaps if you had the honesty to actually quote me rather than paraphrase me you might get a more considered response?
  9. If you're going to quote me, quote me.
  10. It sounds like you're trying suggest that Aston Martin is making strategic changes away from EVs for ideological and not business reasons. Is that what you're suggesting? No, clearly I wasn't talking about the rich. I was talking about affluent white liberals virtue-signalling their superiority over the rest of us with luxury beliefs that they can comfortably afford and aren't negatively impacted by. Huh? What I actually said: I do not see the point you are trying to make. If you have a point, make it clearly.
  11. Aston Martin’s EV rethink reflects luxury market preferences. A significant shift is underway at Aston Martin as the luxury carmaker pumps the brakes on its electric vehicle ambitions. Citing concerns that fully electric cars are “too extreme a step” for many of its affluent customers, Aston Martin is delaying the launch of its first battery-powered vehicle for the second time. https://uk.investing.com/news/stock-market-news/what-the-wealthy-want-aston-martins-ev-rethink-reflects-luxury-market-preferences-3947300 Not everyone is easily manipulated. You might be able to rig the market by discounting low-end products for the mass market, but it's harder to persuade rich people buying high-end products to buy things they don't want by knocking a few grand off them, or raising taxes on the products they do want.
  12. Or buy another cover and protect both.
  13. My brake disks get rusty after I wash the car. It's wild how quickly rust shows up on them.
  14. Try leaving it in "Sport" mode for a while, see if that improves the experience.
  15. Do you have a name for it?
  16. Amen to this. When I briefly had a problem with my dashcam, it felt like driving around without insurance. In the West Midlands, dashcams are absolutely essential. Even if it's the cheapest, crappiest dashcam you can find, it's still better than nothing. https://www.amazon.co.uk/DashCam-Diamond-170°Wide-Recording-G-sensor-Black/dp/B0BLH9LX4P
  17. You are absolutely right. Some expert intervention is required immediately or you could/WILL damage your battery and possibly some other electrical components that were not expecting to find themselves handling over 20v.
  18. Hmmm. That does not sound very convincing. I wonder what the issue with sparks is?
  19. I've been trying to find evidence of an improved additive pack in Sainsbury's Super Unleaded, but I've never seen any to confirm this. Sainsbury's don't make any claims for it, which IMO is either Sainsbury's missing a trick or keeping their mouth shut on a deficiency. Tesco Momentum has an excellent reputation, so I'm not sure why Sainsbury's wouldn't want to promote their fuel if it was in some way outstanding.
  20. I searched online for Marshmello as I'd never heard of them. https://www.marshmallow.com/insurance-for-expats?gad_source=1 They claim to be cheap, but £1300 doesn't sound cheap. What's your driving history & claims record like? I suppose as Tilt suggests, you might be one of the few under-50's actively posting on Briskoda. 😄
  21. Hi Pawel. Put your vehicle details in your profile info and that will whittle down a few questions when looking for help. Engine code is worth including too. Like this.
  22. Hi @Andrew2024. It might be worth looking into what the rules are, rather than allow yourself to be discouraged by a "Computer says 'No!' " NPC. Off the top of my head (so it might be unhelpful) have a look at kit-car registration to see if there's some cunning workaround. If that doesn't work, then leaning into the PLG registration might be an option. It's officially a PLG, so are there any tax/insurance advantages to this? Can you buy your diesel at commercial rates? If you can't undo it, perhaps you can take advantage of it. 👍
  23. I don't want the Google definition of "banter". I'm curious to know what you mean by it, seeing as you use the word so frequently. So, what does it mean when you use the word?
