Car Park Fires, Transporters / Ships, any fires, any EV,s involved or not thread, were they the cause just there and so made fighting the fire harder.
This surprises me. Were you drunk?

Eco mode / coasting in gear DSG
This is also my experience. I actually saw someone on YouTube testing the idea that Sport mode is more economical and claiming it was in some circumstances. ๐คจ Can you clarify your post, please @RattleWagon?

"Anyone double-locked in" is doing a lot of heavy-lifting there, @Ootohere. I think you're scrabbling around trying to find a problem for a solution. I cannot recall ever being double-locked in a car, or double-locking someone in a car, but I realise I may be unusual. When was the last time you found yourself double-locked in a car, or double-locked someone in a car? What were the circumstances that led to this?

tyres
I'm on GYA6's and they are good tyres. I've just bought a replacement Fiesta that has come with Uniroyal Rainsport 5's and they have been surprisingly good. If they are noticeably cheaper than the Goodyear AS6 tyres, I can see me replacing like for like on the Fiesta when they are worn out.

Eco mode / coasting in gear DSG
There's more to ECO mode than you might realise. It changes the throttle response as well as the fuelling map. When driving, coasting preserves momentum as engine braking is eliminated. I find ECO mode less useful than I previously did, now I've learned to use cruise control more effectively. IMO cruise control is better for economical driving than ECO mode, though I do use ECO now and then.

I think this is a big deal. I'd be tempted to ensure that all vehicles (EV or not) had a mechanical means of opening the door. Yes, have your fancy buttons and electric door opening and closing etc, but in an emergency, people need to be able to get out of the vehicle mechanically, not relying on an electronic release.

ECU Stage 1 Upgrade questions
Beyond the remap, no. To get a custom remap done properly would be quite an iterative process, making changes and testing the changes both on a rolling road and by driving. Mine was simply me telling him what I wanted, and as I'm good at making myself understood without ambiguity, and him supplying it. A test drive confirmed I'd got what I wanted, as far as I could tell, and that was that. It's only after many more miles driving that I've fully got to know the car and how it drives ion the different modes. DSG driving can be a simple "Bung it in D mode and forget", or quite a complicated business, changing modes to suit traffic and road type & condition, not to mention inclination.

ECU Stage 1 Upgrade questions
Not a problem, it's only 230ps up from 190ps, after all. The throttle response on Sport mode is sensitive, but for Drive & Econ mode, you wouldn't know the car is remapped, it's quite discrete. I'm not even sure the map applies outside sport mode. I could do with a rolling-road test to check it all out, but I can't be ar$ed just now.

ยฃ1500 for cancelling new scala order?
If it's a stock "off-the-shelf" vehicle, then I'd be tempted to tell them to do one and see you in court.

ECU Stage 1 Upgrade questions
For my map, I wanted similar power to the 230ps vRS, but not the full ~250ps my remapped Gen3B EA888 is capable of. He could have given me a map with "kick in the pants" power delivery, but that's not what I wanted. I asked to preserve the smooth & linear delivery, just bump it up a bit, and that's what I got. I hope you find a tuner who can meet your needs. Good luck! ๐

Mine is intermittent.

Where is that ยฃ1500 cancellation fee documented? I'd have a word with your local Trading Standards people and get some advice from them. It may be that having a car built to your spec and then cancelling does incur a penalty, I don't know.

Rubber v carpet vote...update as controversial mat debate rolls on!
I like those vent covers. Neat!
-
ECU Stage 1 Upgrade questions
It depends on the map. Mine seems pretty mild in ECO and Drive, but quite frisky in Sport mode. Throttle response has a lot to do with how it feels too. Talk to your tuner and tell them what you want and they'll tweak the map to suit your needs. If they can't, you're possibly buying an "off-the-shelf" map from a retailer masquerading as a tuner.

Oh they stink like some sort of rubber fetish dungeon. The smell goes away quickly though. Which is a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your preference. ๐

I'd fix the problem rather than mod your way around it at this stage.

Old age marches on
I have got slightly more "efficient" with my car washing and a little less obsessive, though I still try and wash it weekly. I use the "two bucket" method less frequently, hosing down my wash mitt when it gets particularly soiled. I only wax & polish on very nice sunny days when I make a day of it. I stop and chat to neighbours & friends I've made over the years chatting to people was they walk past my drive when I'm washing my car. I usually don't dry my car after washing, I use a spray and shine treatment and just hose it off. (https://www.amazon.co.uk/CarPlan-CWR005-Trade-Valet-Hi-Wax/dp/B00MW68QHY ) I haven't changed my obsession with cleaning out nooks and crannies, though. Window rubbers are a particular obsession with me. I also like to keep it nice under the bonnet. The general public might not appreciate it, but I suspect my mechanic realises that he's looking at a car that is loved and cared for. TL:DR I lowered my standards to match my lower energy.

Skoda Octavia 3 Firmware update (Problem)
The only time I have seen the "Navigation database not available" message was during normal driving when attempting to use navigation. I stopped the car and turned off the ignition. Removed and replaced the navigation SD card, and started up the car again and all was normal. That digression aside, could you clearly state what the problem is that you have, that you would like help to solve?

Skoda refuse to service my car!
Are you on some sort of service plan with the dealer, or did you literally book a service you were going to pay them for, and they declined on the grounds they didn't think your car needed it? Skoda are happy to up-sell customers with crappy add-ons nobody needs when they sell vehicles, so it seems out of character to turn down the chance to up-sell an early service. ๐ค

Yeti owner here. Just to sayI had a look at a Karoq in the showroom today.
The paint on my Octavia is very prone to chips and doesn't seem particularly thick. The paint on all the Fords I've had has been exemplary, so when I swapped to Skoda, the weedy paint came as quite a shock. That said, I think metallic paint (all my Fords were metallic) is tougher than solid colour paint. Whether that's the clear-coat on top being different or what, I don't know. Maybe Skoda metallic paint is tougher than the solid colours?

Terrible grip on stock VRS
How's the grip during braking?

Happy days! I spent a couple of years looking for my now much-loved Octavia, and I'm so glad I had the opportunity and inclination to bide my time for the right vehicle to crop up.

Video regarding insurance claims - Graham Butcher?
This could be an example of insurers acting badly @nta16, or it might be the old girl didn't really know what car she owned. To be fair, that may not as unusual as perhaps it should be. When you give your vehicle details to the insurer, you read out your reg. number, and they come back with a car description. (Having done that this weekend, it's fresh in my memory.) Anyone can do this with freely available online tools. So for example, for the Fiesta below I randomly grabbed off AutoTrader, if you put in BV09ETX, you get a description of the car, a blue Ford Fiesta. (Full details below.) I'm sure the insurers have access to more detailed info on the car than I can simply pull up in seconds for free. However there is room for innocent error. For example BV09ETY is a blue Ford Focus, but BV09FTX is another Ford Fiesta Style Plus, however it's a red one. If she gave them (or they recorded) registration number BV09ETY instead of BV09ETX, and they read back, "Is that a blue Ford Focus?", I can see her simply agreeing "Yes that's right, it's a blue Ford." and an insurance mistake is born. https://www.carcheck.co.uk/ford/BV09ETX
