  1. I think it's rather a lot more notes to get a 5 series with the same features as a Superb. Nearly everything you take for granted is an option on the BMW. Lumbar support, adaptive cruise, electric folding side mirrors, and even the bloody ski hatch!
  2. If it has the snowflake marking, can they differentiate between a good all season vs a full fat winter tyre with the same mark? Clearance issue probably is the reason but for width rather than diameter.
  3. I just slam it (glovebox!) shut all the time and hope it doesn't open again. Works mostly lol. Tip is leave it open for a while then shut.
  4. The petrol 190 2.0tsi uses the B-cycle EA888. From what I know it gives good economy so that is something to consider if it's important. Overall I'd imagine the superb will be better overall due to it being bigger (roomier) and can't imagine the refinement to be any worse. Get the VRS if performance is important.
  5. A taxi driver will always want to minimise costs. A 280 is not only the most expensive in capital cost but also running cost of the all the engines out there. There is no way in the world a 280 in any sort of taxi duty will cost less than a diesel superb. DPF wont be an issue because they will get used for longer journeys sooner or later. Being Scotland, won't the journeys be at a good distance? That's why I said a 220 might make bit more sense (even the 1.4/1.5 petrols) but really, a 150tdi will do the job perfectly and there is an L&K model for that too. I drive a 280 because I do minimal mileages and a lot of short journeys. Totally the opposite of a taxi driver. If a taxi driver does this, they be best served using an EV. And why would they sit for long periods with engine on anyway?
  6. That would be really silly tbh. Even a 220 is pushing it when there is the exact same car with a diesel available with 4x4 if that is important. Maybe OK if it was a really good lease/purchase deal but still cannot get the logic.
  7. Running cost for a 280 will be more than a Benz E220d which most executive taxis are. In any case, the diesel superb will do the job as well. However, I did once spot an Insignia VXR private hire (London so can identify with sticker) so yes, who knows!
  8. A 280 certainly won't be a taxi or fleet vehicle. All the points above are valid so check them out especially the DSG and haldex servicing. I'd budget in a haldex service with filter clean too if those were done at dealers as they almost certainly don't clean the filter. Otherwise seems a reasonable price considering the mileage.
  9. Next time mine go loopy, I'll remember to try a different socket.

Power and efficiency is definitely Tesla's advantage. But then everything else is pot luck and some things are just plain bad. Hope you'll enjoy the Enyaq
  11. Recently I had this issue where nothing shows in screen. Prior to that it was randomly disconnecting. I used an older AA version (delete, reinstall on phone), bought a new cable, reset the phone connection section in the car. Then it works. I have no idea which fixed it (too many combos to bother) so there is that.
  12. Exactly what I got too. Saved a decent amount over letting a garage or dealer to do it.
  13. No valves and they made it a single pipe each side! That's what was expected anyway, same like the later 272s. Lovely colour you got there btw. Enjoy the ride!

I have always thought the model 3 is an ergonomic nightmare. Plus no Android auto or Carplay. And some people say they are a software company...
  15. New 280 is only dsg7. I like everything about my old 280 except the short gear ratios. Old 280 has dual port+direct injection and no particulate filter which I like.
  16. I mean i am happy to give someone my exhaust valves and dq250 in return for just a dq381.... Seriously I have no idea why they shortened the gearing of the 280 with 6speeder. I don't like sitting on the highway at 3k rpm.
  17. What about exhaust valves? This is very important! As much as I like my original 280 with valves, I think I am happy to trade for an extra gear...
  18. I assume it's to simulate the needle swipe at start up like on a traditional gauge cluster. VCs don't need really need the same test as it's a screen and it's software driven. The test on traditional gauge cluster is to let you know all the backlight works and the needles ate working too with the swipe at start up.
  19. Almost certainly DQ381 if it's a 7 speeder. I think Skoda was reading this forum and decided to save us all from confusion and keep this thread relevant, they went back to a 280...
  20. Not anymore as it's back to a 280 now.
  21. @Martin201 that's why I don't trust Skoda dealers to do it even if they say they can. Your handed filter looks gunky. Mine at 21k is is cleaner than both of your cases!
  22. I use an old toothbrush to get into the edges and together with car detergent, scrub it out. I have same around my sportline spoiler and around window trims. My last car (2008 civic) was terrible around the rear light cluster. Same method.
  23. I have the OEM P7s at 23k miles and have about 4mm all round except the front inners which I think might be at 3mm. Car is 4.5 years old. Small surface cracks have appeared and I think it's about time to think about a change soon.
  24. @newbie69 I literally took his meaning as the ride being harsh but yes it could mean what you said too. Also agree that the performance at that level is a bit too much and that is from my experience driving the last gen CLS63 around at Mercedes Benz world. 550hp ish IIRC and I was thinking to myself, this is way too much for normal driving, possibly even on a nice windy road. They are also way too big and heavy for track unless one owns a tyre and brake shop...
  25. Thanks for confirming that the M5 is a wild riding monster. I have read many journo reviews about it being the ultimate fast saloon etc etc but am always suspicious about the ride quality. Always thought there must be a trade off somewhere. Kind of defeats the purpose of a big luxury car if the ride isn't at least somewhat good. For the current gen 5 series, I will always pick the Alpina B5 over the M5 purely because it rides better. If I want handling, it will be a Porsche or something else that is properly designed for the job.
